It is lazy and evil to just dismiss legitimate concerns about the prez as ‘birthers’. This is like sheep bleating, to drown out the truth.
"Journalists did not address the fact that the president was refusing to resolve an issue about his constitutional eligibility. Instead, they covered the ???¢??birther???¢?? movement in an effort to discredit any American who had a legitimate question.
Mainstream news organizations did not want to get grouped in with ???¢??birthers???¢?? because they had been compared effectively to the Sept. 11 ???¢??truther???¢?? movements, and anyone who raised birth-certificate questions was labeled paranoid, crazy and even racist.
However, there???¢??s a big difference between people who just wanted to see Mr. Obama???¢??s birth certificate and those who believe that our own government caused the worst terrorist attack in American history, especially when there already is a mountain of evidence pointing to al Qaeda as the perpetrator. With the Obama birth-certificate issue, the archive of evidence was slim, and his refusal to release the more extensive version of his birth certificate rightfully created more suspicion.
In fact, the Obama birth-certificate issue is more similar to what happened when President Clinton refused to give a straight answer about his indiscretions in the White House. The more the president evaded the issue, the more curious and upset people became."

Part of the problem that Clinton faced is he couldn’t come up with a catchy name to describe his critics and lump them into a tidy group. ie “fellators”, “blowers”, “suckers”, “bukakers” none of the names stuck.
With Obama the simple fact is that he refused to deal with the issue and lay it to rest immediately. Instead he dragged it through the courts for years and refused to come clean. Actions that are not unreasonable to consider suspicious.
For someone who has nothing to hide he certainly spent a lot of money to give the appearance that he did. Not releasing his college records hasn’t helped either.

He disregarded the birth certificate issue on advice from those who said to let the far right make fools of themselves over a non-issue, and that’s exactly what they’ve done.
He has not released his college records because they obviously show him to be an average student. And that would tarnish the “the smartest man alive” nonsense that they’ve been peddling.
He’s played it well that’s for sure. But it does say something about his character that he is going to play games like that.
At the end of the day, the real issue is the press didn’t even try to properly vet him. That is why he has been able to play these games.
True, the press did a disservice to the electorate when they traded in what was left of their journalistic integrity to rally around Obama in 08.
