Not to mention the fact that included in the 47% are the elderly living off SS (who account for an entire fifth of the group and who, by the way, voted for Romney), veterans, people who don’t qualify for income tax payment but do pay payroll taxes, and people making less than $20,000/year and therefore don’t qualify for any federal taxes.

It’s a bullshit statistic.
Veterans? Don’t you mean active AND retired military?

My wife is a progressive (who I show our tax bill to every year just to remind her) that is beyond pro-gun in the house.

Gun sales have been going up.

Looks like 2nd is one of the few American’s actually want to keep.

Pushharder,

the problem with the 47% comments is that they are just misguided.

the 47% are located in higher % in Red States

The 10 states with the highest % of “non-payers” are Idaho, Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, New Mexico and South Carolina

The 10 states with the lowest % of “non-payers” are Washington, Wyoming, Minnesota, North Dakota, New Hampshire, Mass, Maryland, Connecticut, Alaska, and Virginia.

By my count the “I want free shit voters” live in red states that voted for Romney (except Florida and New Mexico) the “I pay taxes voters” live in Blue States that voted for Obama.

This wasn’t an election that the 47% decided this was an election that was decided by a party that couldn’t figure out how to run on the one thing they could win on…the economy. With roughly 8% unemployment nationwide (much higher in many places) this would usually be an easy election for the challenger, unfortunately the GOP made Romney an easy target as a right wing elitist extremist, with plenty of over the top soundbites that made him seem out of touch, it’s almost like losing was the plan.
It’s also something that he said in a semi-private meeting that was not supposed to be recorded. You know…hanging around talking to some of your supporters in private not thinking that accuracy was that big a deal…in private like we all do.

But hey there was that film of Obama race baiting that was uncovered by Sean Hannity. The one where he was addressing a group of African Americans and his dialect suddenly changed (odd how that happened). He was talking about hurricane Katrina and how racist Bush was. I thought it was pretty disgusting but hey it was in private and he didn’t know he was being filmed so I never mentioned it until now.

Yeah…he thought he was talking in private to a group of friends. Someone recorded it. But hey no one should talk about that because it was Obama and therefore it means nothing!

Let’s give obama a break, and I’m good with that. But let’s make sure that we NEVER EVER give a republican a break because well…they’re evil!

But you’re right that it’s been pretty damn balanced for a long time now.

It’s so arrogant to presume that an all powerful Creator of the Universe would take personal interest in one election of one nation, on one planet, in a solar system of 8 planets, in a galaxy of 200-400 billion stars with perhaps as many planets, and in a Universe of at least 100 billion galaxies. Wasn’t Pearl Harbor an attack on a military target? Seems like an abuse of the English language to call it a terror attack, even if the attack was unjustified.

California alone has 35% of the entire country’s welfare, with only 12% of the population.

Whomever said that red states make up more of the tax takers is full of pure dog shit.

If you look at the data, they’re not.

That is, the data that was presented, which I believe represented a balance between benefits taken and income tax given. In other words, those who take relative to how much they give.

FWIW, I think that you and Beans have played important roles in changing things.
Many thanks, sir.

And I can only imagine what it was like at the height of the war. I might even dig up some old threads just to satisfy my curiosity.

I’d disagree. A lot of the right winger regulars in PWI always get pissy when a few liberals start posting here. Just look at the post election threads. And I’d say quite a few would be wing nuts. All I see them do is passive aggressively insult liberals who post here. Even Pitbull gets regularly insulted. Hell I was here 3-6 months ago and Zeb completely made something up, put it in quote bubbles with my name on it, and then posted that I said it and no one batted an eyelash at it when I said he made it up. Like that’s par for the course in an argument. You’ve got to be crazy to do something like that, and there is a reason why liberals and even moderates don’t post here, because there is almost no respect from the regular posters here. And whenever a liberal insults them in a direct way, similar to the way they’ve insulted liberals, they play the victim card and cry foul. It’s a sick joke. Several are complete hypocrites.

However, it’s pretty entertaining to see them cry over losing the election and complain about liberals being excited Obama was reelected. They would have been gloating just as much if Romney had won. They fooled themselves into thinking it would be a landslide victory for Romney. Kind of hard to be objective about reality when you don’t live in it and surround yourselves with the same kind.
