Obama Approval By Race

I think a more valid claim is that blacks preferred obama over other democrats because hes black.

Not everyone is racist. Racism is more common in blacks than whites nowadays, although even the black folks who support Obama solely because of his race are often easy to get along with on an individual level. I have learned that people compartmentalize their lives, and can be perfectly rational in once area and totally irrational in another.
How you come up with this bullshit?
Blacks are more likely to have a collectivist orientation, i.e. to identifiy with their race rather than as indiviuals. They are more likely to think in terms of “we” rather than “I.”

No, no that can’t be it. This must be explained by something other than race. The pc times that we live in demand that someone come up with another reason.

Good try though.

I could also compare this to veterans preferring McCain because hes a vet (I dont know to what extent that is true) Its preference based on a perception of common experience and worldview. Thats what black people saw in Obama. Just voting their interests. Doesnt seem like they thought a white person couldnt do it. An overwhelming number of blacks would have voted for Hillary had she won the nomination because shes a democrat…just a lot fewer would have voted.

So what you are saying in essence is that if white people vote for a white person, because he/she represents a sort of “common experience” and shared interests it’s okay.

I would argue that whites don’t form a special interest in general as a majority. If you’re a poor white, and you resent college admissions practices that favor wealthy minorities over poor whites of equal merit then you might vote for a white candidate from humble beginnings because you’re guessing he or she is aware of and cares about the issue that is most pressing to you. Fine by me.

Its issues based, is what I’m saying. Its basically a qualification to understanding an issue from your perspective.

In the end there were probably some blacks and some whites who made the decision based on tokenism. Maybe they thought either candidate would do a good job but they thought the symbolism of a black president would be important so they let that tip them over the edge. I dont know. But it was probably a more complex sequence of events than black people thoughtlessly voted for the guy that looked like them.

Furthermore in a racist society the oppressed feel the need to stick together. I think thats fair too. Especially if they unify in non-violent political action like voting.

And if something goes bad, just blame his white half. Was he fully black, he would make America just as rich and great as his black ruled homeland of Kenya. How racist is it to describe a mulatto as either black or white? That’s denying a half of the person’s ancestry. It’s like blacks and liberals are so desperate for a hero that they will cling to anything with a dark shade to it, like the quarter black athlete Tiger Woods. Then there’s afrocentrism of Hollywood and academia of course, which consists of trying to paint historical white figures as black which is ridiculous but passes for history now.

Eli - you’re reaching pretty hard when the most plausible and obvious explanation is staring you in the face.
