Before I ask my question, let me state I’m not a pussy, honest.
I’m getting my chest/stomach tattoo’d (as part of a larger bodysuit) and while I was fine getting my back done last week, getting my lower back and ass done was fucking excruciating.
I’m booked in for chest/stomach on Wednesday and was wondering what people use to numb the pain? I’ll be sucking it up and doing it regardless, (no pain, no gain right), but anything to make the four hours a little easier would go down a treat.
A friend got me paracetamol/codeine tablets but they were shithouse
A friend of mine is heavily tattooed and stays away from painkillers - some of them can interfere with clotting and cause a lot more bloodiness than necessary.
He said the chest is a picnic as far as pain goes, but the stomach can hurt, particularly along ribs and your hip trochanter.
Stomach/ribs just hurts pretty bad, no two ways about it. Chest wasn’t bad, except near the bones…aka the bottom and top basically. And near the armpit shudder
But seriously dude, suck it up. Also, as mentioned, many painkillers interfere with the blood clotting issue, and/or thin your blood…you don’t want that.
I did this for a lot of my ink… it works mostly well but sometimes it makes you really zone into the pain and i just felt like i was being tortured[/quote]
Gotta play some tunes that relax you and bring friends that ease your mind…have a friendly relationship with the artist before the session…
Unfortunately smoking weed is out of the equation. I get on well with the artist and he’s a really nice bloke, the shop plays hip hop/rap nice and loud and the atmosphere is good. (It’s in parramatta, for any Aussies curious)
I got some cream that contains Lignocaine, will give that a whirl and also activate my inner anti-pussy glands.
Lol synthol, I would but I’m not an insecure egyptian bloke.
Taking an antihistamine a few hours prior might help to reduce the skin irritation / inflammation that would come from a four hour sitting. Not going to help the initial pain, but may make the last hour or two less annoying when everything is swollen.
Suck. It. Up. My last tat lasted from 10:30 PM to 4:00 AM and then I drove to a heliport with no sleep and flew to work on an oil rig for a 12 hour shift (first day on a 7 day hitch) bleeding through my shirt…
They DO have a cream to help with the pain - it’s called VAGISIL

On a related note, the last tattoo I got was a half sleeve on my left arm. I wound up bleeding through my shirt during a lecture. One of my students fainted. He never lived it down for the rest of the semester.
To the OP: just go with the general advice and suck it up. The ribs will hurt like hell, but it is part of the process. Later, once all is said and done you will feel silly for worrying about it and better for doing it on your own.
Got my entire chest and both ribs and part of my stomach. Chest hurts like a mofo especially on the sternum ribs are pretty bad, parts of my stomach not so much and one funny thing my hip bones were painless. Sometimes ill pop a Norco or Vic that helps and no joke you can use cocaine to numb the pain. Let it desolve in the rinse water I’ve done this a few times. Also get bactine that shit is is great that will kill the pain, instead of wiping with water you use the bactine and you can’t feel shit
