Paused bench press, 325x2 (3rd set)
that sucks mate - do you need it checking out?
at least the bench is flying though! that looked very strong.

Thanks, man. It should be OK. Tom’s stretching/mobility protocol is working for me. If it doesn’t improve, I will definitely get it checked on.
Sorry to hear about your back bud. Unfortunately that is the cost of doing business if you want to get strong, as I am sure you already know. Hopefully it will recover faster than you think and you will hit closer to your best than you expect to. On the bright side you have a decent bench to fall back on.

Hey, maybe I’ll test the waters as a BOF. LOL.
Given that you’ve said benching used to be your worst lift, you are absolutely smashing it now man. Very impressed/jealous of the paused double!
Gutted for you about the setback… Do you think it has anything to do with the volume/intensity of the training Josh has you doing, or is it just one of those things that could happen anytime? I only ask because both you and Adam have had a few niggles recently. How long until the meet then? Sincerely hope that whatever you’re doing for your back gets you in a fit state to throw up some strong numbers in all 3 lifts.
being totally honest, I’d put my niggles down to the prolonged cut and also neglecting my soft tissue work recently - study and work are demanding more of my time lately, so I’ve been getting lazy!

When you do this level of volume, you can’t slack.
Makes sense. Well, here’s hoping that both of you have a swift recovery back to previous levels of strength!
Week 7 Day 3
CG 2-board bench press 275x2,315x2,355x2 (pr)
Chin-ups BWx3x12
Decline CG bench 225x2x10
Leg raises (straight leg) 3x12
Notes: Still giving the lower back a break from loading. Another small pr on the board presses, but I can honestly say that if a feather or speck of dust landed on the bar while I was lifting I would not have been able to finish the second rep with 355. I was zapped after that, but luckily the assistance work wasn’t a killer in any way so no negative consequences.

BOF here I come.
Week 8 Day 1
Paused bench press 300x1,325x1,345x1
Bench press (touch and go) 300x5
CG bench against minis 215x2,235x2,255x2
WG paused bench press 290x2x6
Lat pulldowns 5x9
Scap retractions 4x15
Band pushdowns 4x40
Hammer curls 3x8
Abs
Notes. Left glute was tighter than hell today and made it tough to get a lot of leg drive. Still, 345 went up pretty well; during the touch and go set, however, there was no way I could keep it together for eight reps. I stopped at 5. Close grips had great bar speed and the wide-grip pauses weren’t too bad either - glute even started to loosen up. Decent session overall.
you make me sick with your feats of pressing prowess!
i swear to god, my bench had better start flying up once I start gaining weight again!! That lift has me near suicidal. It’s like I am just spinning my wheels!
Well, considering I could easily outbench my squat and deadlift right now, this is about all I’ve got going for me. LOL.
Seriously, though, getting down my technique was the biggest difference to get my bench #s up. A concentrated loading cycle for bench might be something worth thinking about in the future once your death-by-low-carb run is over. Feel free to ask for advice any time.
I will take you up on that - I have about 4 weeks left with Josh, so after that I am going to do something much simpler for 6-8 weeks as a break, then get back on it!
Week 8 Day 3
Close-grip 2-board bench press 330x4x2
Chin-ups BW+10x3x10
CG decline bench press 245x2x8
Abs
Notes: Hip felt moderately better today, but left glute still tightened up a bit when I arched - nowhere near as badly as last week, however. All 4 sets of doubles had nice bar speed (video of 4th set to follow). Declines were easy and the leg raises didn’t aggravate my hip at all this week. Although I’ve resigned myself to doing bench only at the meet next month, I’m continuing along with the stretching and other recovery work so I can get this thing back on track after the meet.

Whoa, whoa, whoa - what’s with the lack of volume?! I’d say something like ‘strong pressing, good work’ but you already know that.
Good attitude about the meet, and I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of numbers you can throw up!
