Is there anyone who has payed into social security and that does not pay now? I’m attempting to quit paying social security, but I’m not having any luck in finding out how to be exempt from this tax.
If you have earned income, you are not exempt.
Only the income earned in excess of 97,500 for 2007 is exempt from Soc Sec, but is still subject to medicare tax.

Annnnd end thread here. The accountant has spoken.

Once you find out, let us all know. Then find out how to not pay federal income tax and clue us all in. Oh yeah…then get busy figuring out how to not pay the tax on gasoline, alcohol and smokes and we’ll be all set.
Thanks.
all you have to do is quit your job.

Genius.
I keep hearing this fantasy about individualized social security. Was I dreaming?
I’ce seen a bunch of books touting the premise that paying federal taxes is a voluntary thing. Not that I belive this, otherwise people wouldnt constantly be going to jail for not paying, but there’s got to be some tiny, obscure loop somewhere that makes people keep thinking that there’s a way.

About the Federal Income Tax:
I worked for the Federal government for 3 years and still had to pay that tax. I ask you, what sense did it make that I paid the tax that my salary was coming from?
I was taking my own paycheck away from myself. What a kick in the balls lol.

That almost as bad as taking money out of MY OWN paycheck to pay YOU.
Anyway do you have time for this? Shouldn’t you be eating oranges?
Good Luck with your program. I’ve been following it since Day 1.

Hahaha true that man. Today is my day off so only 2 oranges today!
Yea true…all you guys did pay my salary for 3 years, so thank you
I did my best to keep the country safe.
Privatized Social Security was one of Bush’s biggest appeals in both elections and one of his greatest let-downs.
I worked for my city’s Department of Public Works as a laborer. I did not have to pay into social security. The equivalent portion of our pay was taken out, but it got put into our own bank account, and one you left your job you could get at it.

I found out how to not pay Federal income tax…
Last summer I worked for a company that ended up giving me a permanant job offer for when I finished school. About a month before leaving, they cut me a bonus check where they changed my filing status for that one check and then forgot to set it back. So my last 2 payroll checks were fat as hell and I didn’t know why until I looked at the pay stubs.
It was kinda cool getting 2 fat checks before going back to school, but I wouldn’t have wanted that to continue on because at the end of the year I would pay out my ass in taxes.
So you’re still paying taxes, you’re just paying them in a lump some at the end of the year instead of throughout the year…
That’s pretty much the same as claiming married with 3 dependents.
own a business and hide the profits in an offshore tax haven
Ok well if I remember my tax classes correctly there are a few ways you can delay or not pay the taxes.
If you earn less than a certain amount (I would have to look it up but something like $7k) you can either elect to get your money back or opt not to pay them stating that you wont be making more than the limit.
The second way is as someone already mentioned pay your taxes as a lump sum at the end of the year. You wont see the full taxes coming out of your paycheck but you still owe them the money.

If you are an employee, your employer is required to withhold Soc Sec/Medicare taxes from your paycheck. There is no option to elect not to pay. You can, if your earnings are small enough, get your EIC paid to you as part of your paycheck.
Once again, if you are an employee - your boss is required to withhold payroll taxes from your paycheck. The only way you can wait and pay it in a lump sum is if you are self-employed.
That’s a let down. I’ve pretty much met my limit of paying in as far as what I’ll get back when I reach an age to receive social security. I’d much rather take the $90 or more a paycheck and dump it with the other money I’m investing into my retirement account.
One of the things I don’t get is why we get taxed on our social security checks when social security is a tax.
What I think sucks is that I’d rather not receive social security so I don’t have to pay into it anymore.
