Why would you question the legality of income tax? Taxes aren’t a new concept in government… While it can me painful sometimes it is ultimately in the best interest of our society (safety security, utilities/roads) to have a strong government to manage these aspects of life as we know it.
Believe me I know how painful it is - there have been a few years where I’ve had to get a second mortgage on one of my properties to pay my taxes because I didn’t have enough liquid cash to pay the bill! (of course I pay the loan off in a few months, I don’t carry it over into the next year)
Taxes suck, but if you look at what you get, it really isn’t a bad deal. There are lot worse places to live than the good old USA - that shit ain’t free.
Believe me, for the rest of my life I’ll try my damned hardest to not pay the government a single cent in taxes.
Do you like having roads to drive on? Do you like being able to fly places? Do you like having a defense system in place that prevents our cities from being bombed?
You know, you could eliminate the income tax by scaling back the size of the federal government to the year 2000. IIRC you still had roads, air travel, defenses and all that back then.
Besides, air travel and roads belong with the private sector. A traffic jam is what happens when socialism can’t build roads fast enough to keep up with capitalism making cars.
Do you not benefit from the safety and security our military provides? THAT SHIT AIN’T FREE. If you don’t pay taxes, then why should I have to pay for YOU? By your logic, you should just GTFO.

I served in the military for 6 years and got paid nowhere near enough to do the same job private security was doing for like 5-6 times the pay (with better equipment no less). Tell all the people on welfare to GTFO then, because you won’t be paying for me, you are paying for the ones that don’t even have a job.
Orly? What about the examples throughout history to the contrary caveman? For example, Iceland had no taxes for hundreds of years in a period where they churned out the best literature of the time.

Either a troll job or one of the most ignorant posts I’ve ever seen.
You have any idea how much it would cost to fly anywhere if people were responsible for paying the salaries of air traffic controllers and the airspace infrastructure if it wasn’t gov’t funded? You don’t think people should be allowed to cross the ocean unless they are millionaires?

Yes, actually I do.
Not that only millionaires should be able to fly, but that the true cost of flying should be shouldered by those that fly.
In related news, trucks wear down the roads orders of magnitudes faster than private cars and should pay that too.
Amtrak, same story.
Because, you know, if someone enjoys the benefits, he should pay for the privilege.
To the people who seem to think that the government is somehow the reason why there is traffic on roads due to not building new ones…
In the not-distant past, the cost of 1 mile of BRAND NEW road, 4 lanes, was roughly $17 MILLION. The price of different materials fluctuates over time, but it’s not like this was at a time where everything was at a peak cost.
Now, I expect your ideal roads with which to relieve the traffic seen in most places would be free to travel, correct? Find me a company willing to literally GIVE AWAY $17 MILLION for, at best, a mile-long advertisement. If that road needs to include a bridge, flyover, overpass, or anything that goes over another thing, expect that price to be significantly higher.

Actually, in places where the cost of repair is actually significant, transportation companies often do pay a certain amount for permitting.
Also, Amtrak owns (at least in Delaware) and pays for all bridges/tracks that they are the sole users of. The problem is that things like SEPTA also run on most of those tracks. And yes, Amtrak does pay to use them. Why do you think it costs $50 on a good day to ride a train for an hour or so?
FYI, fraudulently under reporting your income is NOT an appropriate tax mitigation strategy.
I know it happens every day, but dumbfucks speaking about what they don’t understand shouldn’t be giving advice about that which they do not understand.

Why WOULDN’T you want to pay your share?
Because I don’t have to.
Not paying taxes is illegal, avoiding paying taxes by a legal avenue is the way to go. Get yourself a good tax guy and no, H&R block isn’t good. Might cost a bit, but, I’d rather my dime goes into 1-2 peoples pocket to pay their bills or whatever, then go into the bureaucracy that is our government. Believe me, for the rest of my life I’ll try my damned hardest to not pay the government a single cent in taxes.
Okay Beans, this is probably retarded, but assume that I was being paid completely under the table and never reported it. Would the IRS find out? I have to assume they probably could.

No it is not at all.
Would they? Who knows…
Could they? Absolutely.
The thing to really think about is your future. The IRS can go back longer than you can, and it is fraud. Are you a big potato like Al? No, but they can and will seize your accounts, years later when your trying to pay a mortgage and feed your daughter. This shit adds up fast. Next thing you know you’ll be 30 and owe 40k. Just ask my buddy, kid is fucked.
THIS IS NOT TAX ADVICE.
Also, with your last 3 years returns showing no income, you better have a killer job when you apply for your mortgage.

This I agree with. Public servants, especially those in Congress get overpaid and paid when they do shit work or no work at all. The people who are out fighting for their right to do this get paid shit. When I saw what people were posting about their military pay being cut in half and how it was less than $300, I was like WTF? How can you survive, especially if you have a family, on $600 twice a month? I know your medical needs are taken care of, but there are groceries and clothing and school supplies and transportation needs. WTF? $600 would get you maybe a decent STUDIO in Chicago. Military personnel need to be paid a lot more than they are.
