The problem I have, I imagine is the same problem you have, is that when I get started caution gets thrown out the bloody window. I might go in, feel a bit worn, but after I’m warm and limber it’s like “FUCK YEAH LET’S GO” and I forget about how I felt at the start. I’m too charismatic for my own good, because I’ll tell my mates “Don’t let me go hard” and 15 minutes later convince them that a PR attempt is a good idea.
This should be a t-shirt!
That’s how I parsed it.
My argument was more about front vs back, regardless of high/low.
Happy to hear that bud. If the elbow issues return, holler at me, I now know some stuff.
@kdjohn do you need a video of that self-massage technique?
I do, but I would just modify the set-up to make it easier for the athlete. The easiest modification is a heel lift.
The reason I’m not a fan of low-bar squatting for non powerlifters is that it makes their squat more like a hinge. Since deadlifts from the floor are already somewhat “squatty” (especially for short-legged lifters), the last thing I’d want would be to double-up with a [low-bar] squat that is “hingey”. If I were to do that, I feel like I’d be missing adaptations I’d have to create with assistance exercises, in which case I’m now stuck forcing myself to tolerate more fatigue to “cover the holes” in my training. That’s probably fine for a powerlifter, but I feel it’s suboptimal for those of us who need to manage other stressors
As someone that has literally never done a high bar squat before, ya’ll are making things too complicated.
Touche
As so many of us are wanton to do on here ![]()
When in doubt, remember that the meathead stereotype was never about being smart.
Not sure who qualifies as a meat head but watching and reading Dave Tate, Swede Burns, Jim Wendler, and Dan John, among others recently they all strike me as exceedingly smart. What they manage to do, unlike so many (including myself) is that manage to weave in some common sense into what guides their actions.
Watch “Revenge of the Nerds” and reference Ogre.
That is a meathead.
High school jocks are another common reference.
Edit: You gotta keep in mind you just listed a bunch of COACHES. Coaching requires some intelligence. Getting big and strong: not so much.
It’s very interesting being from a different culture. Jocks don’t exist here. Plenty of stuck-up soccer players though.
That’s a very valid point.
That would be great. I think I got the gist of it, but yeah, a video to confirm would be splendid.
Hey friend, I sent you an email on the adress in your profile. Nothing urgent, just didn’t feel like discussing publicly.
Already replied chief, and you’re always welcome in my inbox
Is it weird I automatically think more of people who go back end edit their posts for typos?
If that’s true you’d hate the email I sent the lad
My fingers are way too fat for my phone and also I hate to see my grammar mistakes but at the same time I type pretty fast without paying much attention, haha.
Well tbf you have some high standards. You speak the most eloquiently out of pretty much everyone here and rarely make mistakes. In your second language.
Can’t edit emails
Only before sending but I’ve been using my phone to reply tonight
