No Waterboarding, Your Child Dies

Yikes, now that was serious detour around the path of logical discussion.[/quote]

And no, I wouldn’t want a ban on guns in that scenario. Look, back to one of my older points, does every parent who has a child die in a car accident run to thier politicians and demand that automobiles be outlawed? No, people die, kids die, old people die, babies die within hours of being born. The kid who shoots up the school, probably has no fear of death or maybe a death wish, so he will probably end up killing a car full of kids in an accident because he is driving reckless, or he will end up beating or raping your college daughter, or he will end up being a pedophile or etc…

I guess the point I keep trying to make is that you don’t know what the outcome of banning guns will be. It could be good or it could be bad on a personal level. You could have someone you love killed by a lawfully owned and regestered firearm, or you could have someone saved by a lawfully owned and regestered firearm, both scenarios happen. What would be CERTAIN, is that if the government took away all the legally regestered firearms in the country, there would be nothing they would be afraid of from the preople revolting. When the government is no longer afraid of the people, it generally stops working for the people, by the people. Hell I don’t even think we have much of that going on now, but at the very least they do most of thier shenanagins behind the scenes because there is still enough people with guns who if pissed off enough would start poppin people in power.

I view the right to bear arms a very important right. I also KNOW that my guns will be kept as safe and secure as I possibly can so that the don’t hurt anyone they aren’t supposed to. And they provide my family the security against some of the more criminal in our own society. If you turn your bedroom into a safe room and keep a shotgun in it, there is not a lot you have to worry about from a home invasion style break in.

Wow -like PUSH would say . . . appropriate screen name . . .

NO!

My comment wasn’t a serious suggestion. It was merely to point out that people would do a lot of things they shouldn’t to protect their family. Not even commenting on whether waterboardng is a good idea, just the stupidity of the OP’s argument.

I would do a lot of things that should get me locked up to protect my family, that doesnt mean its right.

You’re saying if I had a gun to your kids head and said all you had to do was sign this bill eliminating guns, you’d watch me put a bullet in his head? Doubtful.

That’s effectively what the OP’s argument is. There may be good arguments for water boarding people, but this is not one of them. People make decisions when there family is at sake that are not acceptable to society as a whole.

That was exactly my point. This argument about waterboarding is stupid.

Ahh I see, I thought for a minute that you were in favor of his position. Good policy doesn’t alwasy produce good outcomes in EVERY SINGLE situation, but still Policy has to be what will produce the most desireable outcomes possible. So yes, pointing out a specific negative outcome of a policy does not make a good argument against it when many positive outcomes can be argued in favor of it. Basically the people in favor of torture weigh the negative outcomes much more than the positive outcomes. There is really nothing more to say about it. If someone thinks we need to avoid a terrorist attack at all costs, that is what they are going to think, and all the negatives that go along with defending that are ok in thier mind. Like the possibility thier government will turn around and torture thier family in the future. But hey it’s thier right to have that opinion.
