No Right to Habeas Corpus?

So, apparently our Attorney General doesn’t think that we have a right to habeas corpus.

Maybe I’m crazy, but if the Constitution prohibits taking away habeas corpus, doesn’t common sense dictate that we have a right to it?

You can’t take something away if people don’t have it in the first place. . .

I guess that’s a line of reasoning he could be using.

habeas corpus gets in the way of the coming police state.

This is outrageous and Gonzales is making himself look like a fool. I like Specter, and I think he said it best when he said that Gonzales was not using his commen sense. This just makes me believe that Gonzales is being used as a pawn by Bush, because Bush wants to suspend Habeus Corpus for the remaining part of his term.

Gonzalez just seems like one smug motherfucker and it makes me just want to slap the shit out of him when ever I hear the shit that comes out of his mouth.

Maybe this is his roundabout way of reinforcing political support for the right to bare arms.

Or he’s going to break from the camp and say we don’t have that right. I can see it now - “Just because the Constitution says you have a right to bare arms, doesn’t mean we can’t take them away” (same logic, just reversed order).

Despite what this says about the people that put him into this position, this just shows what a complete moron this guy is. And he’s our attorney general?! He’s supposed to know the law and the Constitution inside and out. What a jackass.

Colbert’s take on it.

Gonzalez is definitely following Bush’s orders.

What a fucking douchebag.

Aren’t they speaking about the Gitmo detainees?

Gonzales specifically said that the constitution never says that it grants Habeus Corpus to U.S. citizens.
