I am following carb nite and not seeing the results everyone around me are seeing. The difference between me and my friends that are doing carb nite is that I am a 5 day a week lifter and am on hrt. I am 43 years old and a little heavy maybe 20pounds over what I would like. Is it the hrt or what? My buddies are shedding fat I can see it in their faces and waste lines. Help
And what exactly is carb nite?

I don’t know anything about HRT, but I’ve had good and bad results with carb night. (I’m assuming you are talking about Kieffer’s plan). The thing with carb night is, regardless of the impression you get from the book, you can’t go hog wild with the food and you still need to reduce calories even if you don’t count them. If you eat three reasonable meals and maybe a few small snacks carb night works. If you are eating reasonable portions and feeling a little hungry every day and still not cutting then maybe something else is going on. There is no fat loss strategy that I have found that works by eating too many calories. I can’t speak to the TRT issue.
Jay,
Fat loss is much bigger than calories. Your T levels need to be good, specifically FT/Bio-T. And your progress will be poor if your metabolism is poor.
T levels need to be good
thyroid function needs to be good
cortisol levels need to be good
Please read these stickies:
- advice for new guys, lots of detailed basic info
- thyroid basics
– have you been using iodized salt for years?
– check waking and mid-afternoon body temperatures - IMPORTANT
HRT may be contributing to water retention as well. Do you use an AI? Where was your E2 on your latest labs?
Carb Nite works great for the guy who came up with it. It may or may not work for you. Whether you’re one of those people is going to take experimentation. I can’t. It doesn’t work for me. I need a more regular carb intake. I have to put gas in the tank about once per workout.
It’s the same thing for people that eat keto, vegan or whatever. You get a lot of apostles.
The lesson to take from this is that you need to figure out what works for you and it doesn’t appear Carb Nite is really your thing.
Like the above poster stated, you are population of one, you’ll have to do some experimenting. I lose most weight and easiest and have most energy with 50% carb, 30% protein 20% fat. Insulin insensitive folks do better with lower carb.
My recommendation is stop reading and theorizing so much and just do. Experiment. Adjust.
Thanks everyone for you replies. Maybe a little more background…I have been lifting real hard for about 7 months since i started the testosterone and yes I am using an ai. I see muscles that have never been there before, I feel strong and make at least 5 trips a week to the gym. The fat from my legs, arms shoulders and chest is nearly gone but my belly and chin are lagging behind.
I have always had success from low carb diets but I wasnt lifting like this or on test. My levels are good, I dont know about my thyroid would that be on my blood tests. I guess I have some reading to do but I would love some input while I brush up on the stickies.
E2 levels are very important for fat loss when it gets down to the problem areas.
labs to post with ranges?
Seek E2=22pg/ml
Also, a study has shown that low carb diets DO lower serum fT3, the most potent/important hormone for metabolism.
My e2 was 54 last month
Was it something I said… Lol
read the stickies like you said you would…you will then see that E2 of 54 is HIGH.
Yeah I got that thanks for the informative reply your wisdom is unparalleled. Im here for information.
Ksman i am going to start checking my temp tomorrow. Right now and last night i was 97.5 i was very tired this morning and forgot to check. Again if i could pm or email you my labs that would be great. I am going to keep reading and learning and i really appreciate this open dialog. I was a dope addict for twenty years and been sober for ten but just recently in the last couple years starting lifting and getting healthy. This is such a valuble forum for deeper learning and i thank you.

YOU can’t follow directions, then I’M the idiot? Interesting.
Post your fucking labs right in this thread, then copy and paste the link to THIS thread into the “KSman is here” thread and he will look at your labs and start helping you figure it out, snowflake.
Easy sweet pea Im not very computer savvy and didnt know how to do that so ease up a little.
temp 97.5 at 5pm and 96.8 in the morning so I guess its time to start looking at this thyroid issue a little more. I am not sluggish nor do I have any depression. My energy levels definitely increased when I started hrt but I dont think I was that bad before. Should I check and measure for a full week before I start iodine sups or should I just start now, i know I have always run cold because when my kids have been sick I always check my temp and I have never been over 97.5. dez6485 try to go easy on me im new at this and this and not up on computer lingo.
Labs
been a few days, was waiting for you to notice on your own, but it doesn’t appear your labs have shown up. I looks like you’re trying to either insert an image of them or something, but it isn’t working.
just type your labs into the text box- just the same as you are typing everything else you are typing on here. if you aren’t understanding, click some other posts in this section and see what they look like, then make you’re look like everyone else’s.
