No Promises This Time

Had to run beaucoup errands today so didn’t make it to the gym til others were there. Knew most of them. The warmth of their greetings, “We thought you croaked”,and similar almost brought tears to my eyes.

Felt good but got to admit it was a little depressing when I caught myself thinking, “Next bench day, 2 plates”. As the owner Mike said, “You’re 65 mon ami.Temps Père n’est pas si gentil.” I thanked him for his words with one finger.

For the first time in my life my Primary Care physician won’t be military or work for the military. I’ve been to specialist I was referred to by my military docs. Born in a military hospital, grew up in the military, went in the military, was seen by military doctors after retirement. You turn 65 you go on what’s called TRICARE for Life and Medicare kicks in. Still get to go to the VA for my “service connect disabilities.” I’ll be seeing a GP next week. Downloaded 9 pages to fill out and take with me. Got to the previous surgeries and injuries and had to use the front and back of the form. A new chapter beings.

My uncles- are ok with their civilian Drs. Its an adventure of paperwork for sure.

Today yard work. Such a beautiful day had to get a little throwing in. 20 disc and 20 shot. First time I’ve touch the shot in over a year. Even did 10 2 stone (28#) weight for distance throws. Been a couple of years for that and it showed. Felt good though.

Thursday - Went to visit my new doctor. After a lot of waiting visit went, “I’m going to have to study your records for a while. We’ll do blood and urine”. I’ll get my results via “patient portal”. Don’t think I’m going to keep a provider. If I need something I’ll just call a doctor who deals with that area.

For someone who hasn’t lifted in awhile, you’re using good weights.

Thanks doesn’t feel that way. I’m just trying to get back to natural strength poundage. Weight I should be able to do with out much training. Where I’ve noticed the loss is in the ancillary lifts like side and rear delts, curls. Don’t think I’m old enough yet to not be able to clean and press my bodyweight.

Nice slow 1500m swim to start the day. Jagerschnitzel and spaetzle at mother’s house for lunch. Good friend let me use his Dojo after the last class so got to get some bag work in. Wife made Caldereta for dinner. Trying out Teeling single grain whiskey another friend (now a really good friend) gave me. Also trying a Gran Habano Blue In Green, smooth, brother number 2 gave me, and watching Them! Good day alround.

Time to establish a more regimented routine and some goals. Been pretty much doing what I decide on when I get up in the morning. Ain’t gonna be no competitions this year cause of the virus so I need something to shot for. Last serious lifting goals were 10 years ago when I shot for a 550 dead at 55 (miscalculated and did 560. Vid on here somewhere) ain’t doing no 650 now that I’m 65. Immediate goals are 315 bench, 455 dead, 225 clean and press. If and when I hit those I’ll set some new ones.

Years ago (1/84 - 6/85) when station at Daegu, ROK and assigned to the Korean military I took Tae Kwon Do. I sucked at Tae Kwon Do. I could stretch 12 hours a day and wouldn’t be half as limber as the average Korean. My upper body technique from my other styles saved my dignity on many occasions. I managed to attain my Cho Dan (Black Belt 1). After I went back to Shotokan and Kenpo. Other day just for a change up I decided I’d do the 1 poomse (kata) of TKD. Couldn’t remember the whole sequence. Decided I do TKD Poomse until I can at least get through the first 8.
