No More Expensive Razors!

I have never tried a badger brush honestly, so I can’t compare it to a boar brush. But it might be worth looking at.

Forget the Mach 3’s, Mach 5’s, or whatever bullshit those companies are marketing. Other than a straight razor, nothing will beat a DE razor with a good blade.

This thread got me excited. I’m definitely stocking up on shaving supplies for Christmas this year.

Don’t know why they cut off the beginning of the scene where she knocks… but:

the cost savings on DE razors is great. I don’t find it to be too difficult or time consuming to shave either.

-$10 mug and boar brush
-$10 100 Astra blades
-$30 Edwin Jagger handle
-$1.20 or so each for a bar of Williams mug soap (these last a long time)

Yeah, it wasn’t really directed toward you. That’s just my universal recommendation if you aren’t already using something better.

I’ve used the boar, and it’s not even comparable. I’ve also used a cheaper Best Badger brush, and it wasn’t so great.

I mean, if/when I ever own a nice silvertip badger brush, I’ll probably be recommending that.
I can’t take you seriously when you’re using Derby blades
What’s your beef with the Turks?

Has anyone used this kind of razor to shave their whole head? What about straight razors?

I’m interested in trying it but want to know that it’s not a terrible idea first.

Just get the blades from Dollar Tree… they’re like 6 for a buck and way better than Bics
I use Schick Extreme-3 from Costco. I had a $5 off coupon last week and got their 24 razor bonus pack, which will last me a year. My whole shaving ritual takes all of 2 minutes 5 days a week.

I’d consider an old style DE razor though. That’s definitely a close shave, I haven’t used one in years.

Considering everything. Currently, shave in shower with a Mach 3 Barbasol and exfoliation soap. Change blade every 3-4 weeks.

Where can I buy this stuff? Give me a website you guys trust. I might start doing this. I will be a bit pissed if I take all my skin off the first shave.

Not the cheapest prices, but a trusted source.

There’s whole forums dedicated to this stuff though… you can learn a lot over on Badger & Blade. Forum list | Badger & Blade

I like shavenation.com . Basically, find a brand known to manufacture good products then shop around for the cheapest price.

Your first few shaves will be rough. My neck and jawline were pretty chewed up.

Definitely.

Something I’d never really thought about was the direction of the grain of my hair, but it can make a big difference once you learn that. Shaving against or across the grain can cause a lot more irritation than shaving with the grain.

Does anyone go to a barber to get a shave? I was thinking about doing it when no shave November ends, worth it?

I’ve been to a barber. It’s nice. Absolutely worth it as a treat. Don’t waste it on shave November. Do it on a 3 day growth.

Really, I figure it’ll be over a month of not shaving so that would be the best time.

I think with that much growth you’ll probably run into some irritation. The barber shave is amazing. You don’t even feel the blade on your face. It’s hard to believe they’re even doing anything.

Be warned though, they will probably use a shavette and not a straight razor. The lather will also not be made and applied with a brush (illegal in the US), but dispensed from a machine.

Gotcha, good to know.

I have got to try this. I have an old razor and brush at home that used to be my grandpa’s but never have made the leap. I still remember watching him shave when I was a kid and he would take the blade out, lather me up and let me “shave”. Yall have inspired me. I have tried numerous things with my course facial hair to eliminate irritation so I might as well give this a shot.

Amazon

hard to go wrong with this stuff tbh. The only thing wrong you could do is get Derby blades like Lorez. Those things aren’t sharp lol
