šŸ¦‰ Night Owls and Early Birds... Or Nonsense?

I’m usually in bed by 7:30 and asleep by 8:00. My alarm is set for 4:00 but I’m finding that I’m waking up earlier and earlier each day. Usually I wake up about 3:45 now. Puts me in the gym by 4:30. I find mornings to be my most productive time.

I was an early to bed early to rise my entire working adult life until I started in IT which caused me to not only cram in late hours of study and building labs but the reason I got into that field was because I took a night job at the helpdesk.

I don’t get to bed until around 1am still and get 6 hours of sleep so I absolutely can not lift in mornings, it takes me most of the day to wake up and I’m always ready for the weights at 5 but might not get to it till 6 then back to reading emails at like 8pm.

I don’t have an alarm set. When I get up at 0400 on the weekdays, it’s because my alarm has gone off because it’s time to get up and train. On weekends, I just sleep. I don’t necessarily close my eyes and wake up at 0700, but I’ll stay in bed until then.

But my sleep has been improving over the years. Getting my testosterone in order went a long way there as well. At rock bottom, I could only sleep 20 minutes at a time. I’d eventually just ā€œgive upā€ on sleeping at about 0200, and get up and go for walks. It was pretty bad.

By nature I am a morning person, but I have been a night owl. Like @SkyzykS I have had to adapt to the conditions at the time. I can’t remember the last time I had to set an alarm.

I am definitely more productive in the morning but I like the quiet of the night when I’m creating.

I would say I am a night owl on weekdays, and an early bird on weekends. I get up at like 0500 most days, and tend to hit the hay by 2200.

I’m a bear. No matter what time of year or if I’m traveling I’ll always pop up without an alarm 20-30 minutes before the sun comes up. I also hit a wall for about 45 minutes when it gets dark, but then get a second wind. If I’m up past 1 am I usually give up on sleep and just stay up all night, because what’s the point?

My wife is a dolphin. She’s either up until 2 am trying to fall asleep, or up at 4 unable to fall asleep again.

First thing that came to mind

I don’t see ā€˜Up late working until 12a or later, then up from 2-4a with 2yo, before waking up at 530 to get ready for work and other kids ready for school’ in the chart.

That’s because that one is a zombie and therefore on a different chart full of other undead creatures. I’ll send the chart to you if I can find it.

Why is your 2yo up from 2-4am??

This actually reminded me of when I was pregnant withy second child. My oldest went through this phase when he was 2 where he would wake up around 2 am and crawl out of bed. Then he would come into my room, stand about 3 inches from my face, and wait for me to wake up. Scared the ever living shit out of me every single time. Hard to fallback to sleep after a mild heart attack like that. It lasted for about a month or two. I hope yours stops keeping you up soon. Kids can be hell on your sleep health.

Wish I knew. First year and half was rough, waking up in similar time window. She’s wide awake and wants to play. Nowadays, it’s 1-2 times a week and she’s up singing and dancing.

Oh man, this chick has done this too. Fortunately, she stopped but now strums a ukulele.

Jed didn’t sleep all night until he was almost three. First time he did it, it scared the shit out of me! I jumped out of bed freaking out because he didn’t wake me up. I thought he was dead.
It’s funny now, but wasn’t at the time. :scream:

I often feel extremely fortunate about my go at child rearing.

Now is one of those times.

Only thing my son did was run laps around the house to fight sleep, but when it finally won, he’d zonk out solidly until morning.

So you’ll probably be waking up in a half hour while I’m winding down to sleep.

Yesterday morning was a 5:30 am wake up, running around quite a bit, and about 1½ hr. nap between 6:30 & 8:00 pm.

I’m kinda boring these days. In bed by 10, awake by 6. Occasionally I’ll go crazy and stay up until 11 and sleep in to 7.

It’s funny, though, because my mornings are self-productive but not work-productive.

From 6-8:30 or so:

Coffee

Hang with the dogs/wife on the couch while catching up on the news/urgent emails

Then it starts: mobility work on the floor, workout in garage, go for a walk, breakfast, make lunch/get ready for work.

The last part is when I can’t wait to be retired. I’d love to stretch it out, go for a longer walk. Delay breakfast a bit longer. Then hit a coffee shop and read a book. I do this often on the weekends, but I want it to be my ā€œevery morningā€.
