Surely you jest!!! A Canadiens fan who doesn’t know Don Cherry??? I love Don Cherry, but we get CBC on cable in Detroit so coach’s corner is on all the time. People either love or hate Don Cherry. His complete and utter lack of television professionalism is endearing and refreshing.

Dude, I’m from fucking Florida! Watching him, he seemed a lot like Bob Knight. Unprofessional, outspoken, and very pissed off at the world.
I just looked him up on Wikipedia. This is the greatest thing ever:
And how does Cherry relate to the Canadiens outside of coaching the Bruins? I’m assuming some sort of comments.
Off topic while it’s on my mind: Stuart Scott just accidently cursed live on SportsCenter while quoting Shaq’s newest statements to the media. I laughed. He looked scared.

…on the subject of visors, Cherry said on Coach’s Corner: “Most of the guys that wear them are Europeans and French guys.” This statement triggered an investigation by the federal Official Languages Commissioner, and protests by French-Canadians. CBC consequently imposed a seven-second delay on Hockey Night in Canada. He was somewhat vindicated when a study was published that showed the majority of visor users in the NHL were indeed French-Canadians and Europeans.

ok, wow!! I at least assumed you were from montreal or quebec and just moved to florida for school or something. But you’re actually a floridian, and a habs fan, and you don’t know who Don Cherry is??? Your hockey fan card has officially been suspended, keep it up and your man card will be next to go. To have the suspension reversed, download every episode you can of coach’s corner and hockey night in canada and watch them. Write a detailed report of each episode and post it on this thread. You don’t have to necessarily love or hate Don (although you probably will, everyone does), but not knowing who he is is like not knowing John Madden.

Glad you get to watch Coach’s Corner Tiribulus!
Padilla, Don Cherry was voted in the top 10 of the “Greatest Canadians”. People may disagree with some of the things he says but, on the whole he says what people are thinking.
He has a history of negative comments about Europeans, but not so much in recent years. Basically he hated that so many Europeans took dives and used their sticks rather than their fists when they were new to the NHL.
Lot’s of people like to pigeon-hole him as a “pro violence” guy. But in reality he dedicates most of the show (its about 5 minutes between the first and second period) to safe, but physical play and telling kids things to do and not to do.
He also frequently holds up pictures of soldiers, police officers and fire fighters that have lost their lives in the line of duty. More times than not he cannot finish the segment because he’s too emotional.
Overall, he’s controversial but a genuinely good guy.

Cut me some slack. I don’t know why I like the Habs, I just do. It’s crazy. I read his wikipedia article, that’s good enough. I also looked him up on youtube, so that’s just as good as watching every video.
I kinda like the way he goes against political correctness. He’s kinda funny to watch, wholly entertaining and enjoyable. My verdict is still out on him, but he seems pretty cool, regardless of the controversy.

hehe, ok, you looked him up at least, so I guess I can cut you a little slack. It’s morning now, I’m no longer half drunk and slightly less angry about the game.

Yeah, it’s understandable to be angry when a rookie rapes ass in a game 7. It’s aight.

oh jeez, are you back to sucking Carey Price’s cock again? I would have thought games 5 and 6 would have demonstrated that he’s not a fucking god. He’s got talent and potential, but come on.
Just curious, but have you ever actually been to the forum (bell centre now I guess), or Montreal at all for that matter? Or Boston? Hell, you’re from Florida, have you even even seen real ice? Like on a pond. Or actually skated on it with a stick and a puck?
Come on man, you’ve already shown your ignorance several times over, now you’re just showing your arrogance. Give it a rest, enjoy your win, and get ready for the caps or the flyers.

Don Cherry is the real deal. What you see is what you get. He’s an eccentric screwball and makes no bones about it, but he has character in the sense that most TV personalities do not. He says what he wants and doesn’t care if he gets fired tomorrow for it. He also is very friendly to the United States which is refreshing and isn’t a given at all for Canadian celebrities.
Not even to mention the fact that the man knows hockey like few people do. He has an uncanny accuracy rate when it comes to all kinds of predictions about what’s going to happen over a season and post season. Of course he has no problem replaying himself making said predictions when they turn out to be true =]
It’s easy for me to forgive him some unfortunate comments even though like the other guy said, they’re usually what everybody’s thinking anyway, he just comes out and says it.

Lol, I said it just to piss you off, don’t worry. No one’s sucking cock.
I have been to Boston, but not their arena. I’ve never been to Montreal, but it’s on my list of things to do before I die. And yeah, I’ve seen ice. We do have ice rinks down here, ya know. I love ice skating, even if I’m sketchy at best. Never skated with a stick and puck, but once again, that’s on my list of things to do. Does roller hockey count?
I’m not ignorant. I’m just having fun with the situation. Like I said before, it was a hard fought series and even though I think Montreal is the better team, I still consider us lucky to have gotten out alive.
I knew we were cooked when you said bruins in 7, you put a huge kabookie on us.
that being said, god help montreal when a team that isn’t offensively challenged steps up. like i guaranteed a game 5 win, i am guaranteeing that regardless of who they face, montreal is cooked in the second round.

That’s what I hoped.
I agree with the half of what you said. If a team plays at the level that Boston did when they won their games, it’s going to be a tough series, and we probably will lose. Montreal needs to play great defense and during the high energy games, Price needs to stop acting like he’s never been in net before. However, I don’t think that Montreal is GUARANTEED to lose in the second round. If they can match the intensity of whoever they play and get equal or better goalie play, they will advance. Hopefully they can do that. If not, well…

Yep. Bring on my most hated team.
The only thing worst than a Flyers player is a Flyers fan.[/quote]
no, no, Montreal fans are worse than Flyers fans, but you were close. Honestly though, this sucks, I honestly don’t know who to root for in the Habs Flyers series. I really just despise both teams. Especially after losing to Montreal and the whole Bergeron hit from behind thing this year. Oh well.
GO AVS!!! (I’m still a holdout Avs fan from the Borque and Roy days)
The Flyers will always have my respect. They were amazing to watch back in the 80s against Gretsky and the Oilers. Those battles were priceless. Too bad Keenan had to go down last night with the evil Flames.
I didn’t expect the Sharks to bitch slap the Flames last night like they did. Great game all 3 periods.
San Jose just plain overpowered Calgary last night. The second and third weren’t even close.
Now we go to round 2 with Colorado. Been here before, but definitely different times. The rivalry isn’t the same, but should be good. Game 1 tomorrow night.
