Damn.

I’m curious why you appear to be pulling for the Red Wings. Not that it bothers me, but just curious.

I’m one of very few people in Buffalo that still likes Hasek. Also I hate Dumont.

Edit: It may also be because I have money on that series being over in 6 games. Tiny possibility :)
Game 6
I like the tone established in Period 1. Great pace by both teams w/ hits and SOG. Should be a decent watch, but I will be missing the 2nd period - leg day is calling.

Lidstrom scores shorthanded from almost our blue line!!!

Happy Hudler makes it 2 zip!!!

Empty netter with 4 seconds left and we will take game 6 3 zip to advance to round 2.

Someone made a comment, saying they can’t believe the game’s not more popular than it is.

How popular is it in America?

In england there is little to no coverage of our own league.
And a couple of cable channels show the NHL which is good, but I couldn’t think of many people i know who watch it.

Let me put it to you this way: ESPN, the “worldwide leader in sports,” doesn’t even carry games.

When the NHL came back from their strike, the OUTDOOR Life Network (now called Versus) picked up the cable television contract, with broadcast games going to NBC.

Back in the late 90s, early 2000s, Checkers, a fast food joint, used to give away FREE TICKETS to Tampa Bay Lightning games here in…well, Tampa Bay. All you had to do was buy a damn burger and you got a ticket.

Does that put it into perspective for you? It’s a travesty, a shame, a mockery, a…well, you get it.

I noticed when I have been watching some games online, they have been on “versus”.

I’ll give you the link if you want it, nomore radio for you! lol

That’s mad, giving tickets away with burgers.I didn’t have a clue how big/small the game was over there.

So what is the order of sports there, 1.NFL, 2.NBA, 3.MlB, 4?

What order would you say?

actually, I believe NASCAR is first <>. And it’s really different by region. Hockey is, for the most part, bigger up north than it is down south. Boston used to be a great hockey town, but the bruins have been shite for so long that no one really cares anymore. I can only hope that’s about to change. I was really thrilled saturday night when I was at a bar watching the game and more people seemed to be watching the bruins than the sox. And people were honestly cheering and getting excited over the game. Did my heart good to see that as for the past few years it’s been hard to even get the bartender to switch the channel of 1 tv over to the hockey game.

Now, regarding the game and series, WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO GO BRUINS!!! This series has been phenomenal and I can only imagine how good tonight’s game will be. Bruins have definitely shown more grit, guts, and heart than the Habs, but with both teams now facing elimination, I expect Montreal to kick it up a few notches. There’s only one thing better than playoff hockey, and that’s game 7 playoff hockey

Nascar?! lol

I’ll watch the bruins tonight, the only bad thing watching the american sports- as good as I find it, is that it means I can’t go sleep till about 3.30am. With me been in england.

What about youngsters playing hockey, surely it would cost a lot to play?

On that matter, how many black players are actually in the NHL?

It goes:

 1. NFL
 2. MLB
 3. NBA
 4. NCAA Sports (You can flop this with NBA if you really want)
 5. NASCAR
 6. NHL
 7. David Beckham…er, MLS

And yeah, hook me up with the website. I’m sick of the damn internet radio networks. I tried the sites earlier in the thread, but thanks to my luck, every game except the Montreal one was listed. Bastards.

And no, NASCAR is not as popular as people think. Yes, it’s popular and growing fast, but it’s not as mainstream as people think. Also, the NBA has its lowest ratings ever last year, especially in the finals. Believe it or not, MLB is still strong, despite what some people say.

I hate to see NHL in sixth. It’s disgusting. In my book, it goes NFL, NHL, NCAA Football, MLB, and Soccer (MLS is garbage compared to the world). I detest basketball with my whole heart. NASCAR sucks, but I only watch it with my brother, who bets on it, so…

Off the top of my head, with no research whatsoever, I’d say 20 or so. I think Francis Bouillon is one of them, and he’s a Hab. But he’s Haitian, and I’m Dominican, so I technically have to hate him. Irony.

Root for Montreal and you root for equality!

Not many, I’d guess and saw about a half dozen. But that’s up from about 1 in the 80s!

This issue has been getting some more attention in the last few years since Anson Carter scored the game winner for Canada at a World Championship a few years back and Calgary’s caption (Iggy) is a fan favorite and a great ambassador for the sport.

It’s obviously a slow progression since its not a game people switch to (at the pro level) later in life. But minor hockey is getting a lot more “multicultural” in Canada now. Hell CBC is even broadcasting some games in Mandarin!

20 really?

I did a quick search and Wiki popped up (of course) and it lists ~20, but many aren’t currently playing in the NHL.

Here’s the link

Jerome Iginla

Donald Brashear

Geogres Laroque

Mike Greer

I think Kevin Weekes may still be floating around as a back up goaltender somewhere.

A few black NHL players I can think of offhand.

I asked a black buddy of mine one time why he thought there weren’t more black hockey players and he just smiled and said “too cold”.

I posted this before actually. All games are available in pretty decent quality if you know where to look.

As far as popularity goes I just DO NOT get it. To me there isn’t even a close second, not even close. Especially playoff hockey. I cannot fathom a more exciting pulse pounding sport. It has speed, precision, intelligence, extreme physicality and athleticism along with the uncanny tendency for lesser teams to WILL their way past superior ones. That;s even mentioning the fact that fighting while “illegal” is an entrenched part of the actual game though some may dispute that characterization.

I don’t care where you’ve been there is nothing like a Detroit Stanley Cup Championship parade. We get over a million people to see the team carry Lord Stanley’s cup down Woodward Ave. A dozen news choppers overhead, controlled mayhem at it’s finest.

1997

The beloved captain, Steve Yzerman displays the prize. I didn’t have a digital camera then. That guy on the bike was from Sports Illustrated and he kept stopping right in front of me and we were shoulder to shoulder with people and couldn’t move. Right at the last second he pushed himself forward with his foot leaving me this perfect shot.

Goose bumps my friend…goose bumps.

Why is it that the vast majority of series’, Detroit is the more talented and better coached club, yet they run into a buzz saw standing on his head for the entire series, resulting in an upset, or a series lasting far too long. Not being a “homer” but that series shouldn’t have gone 6.

Oh what the hell, pass the corn bread.

“Padilla”, this is the same website I watch the games on since my friend told me about it.

Enjoy!

Been in England, “soccer”, is all over the papers, and tv every single day, it’s by a mile the most popular sport. Nothing comes close to it at all.

The national rugby team has even been to the last 2 finals, winning one of them, and hardly anyone could still give a shit about it.

It’s no suprise americans haven’t really took to it though, look at what you have available to you, with the other sports.

I agree with the basketball, the first time I ever played the game was at school when I was 12!

My personal order of sports is:

1.Soccer
2.NFL
3.Rugby league- this game is only played in the north of the country, and very little in other parts of Great Britain.
4.NHL
