I’m really looking forward to seeing how this kid Kaepernick does for the Niners tonight. Alex Smith is a fucking loser and his time as a starter couldn’t end soon enough, in my mind. Believe me, if Kaepernick goes out and looks good and the Niners win, we will have a fullblown QB controversy in SF.
I mean, this is the fanbase that was clamoring for Steve Young to replace Joe Montana from 1987 to the middle of 1988. And then when Montana got knocked out and Young came in, won the MVP and took the Niners to the 1992 NFC Championship Game, half the fanbase was going ballistic that Montana wasn’t going to be starting in that game even though he’d only played two quarters in the last two years.
The future of the NFL at the QB position is going to be suiting up for the Niners tonight, boys. Fuck Andrew Luck and RG3 and all that cheap shit. Kaepernick is a fucking freak. 6’5" 233 runs the 40 in 4.5 and has a fucking cannon of an arm. He’s one of those types of players who gets faster when the pads go on, too.

Besides, I said “the future”, not “the present”.[/quote]
Well josh is the future. He has at least another decade to play.
What I really like about him is how he throws. Now, he clearly has a longer arm action than most QBs do, as the above video shows. He’s cleaned it up a little bit since then and he’s more over the top, but what I really love is how well he throws from different arm angles with a defender bearing down on him with his hands up. He throws well on the run this way as well.
I think his arm action might be a bit problematic, but you know who else had a bit of a long throwing motion? Joe Fucking Montana, that’s who. His was more of an elongated version of an orthodox motion, but the point is that a player with good anticipation and who can avoid pressure and still keep his eyes downfield can easily overcome a long throwing motion like Kaepernick’s. And he’s definitely shown the ability to buy time in and out of the pocket in his few opportunities. We’ll see tonight if he keeps the ball up and his eyes downfield when he escapes pressure, or if he just tucks and runs with it every time. He has the ability to succeed both ways though.
