NFL 2012

He reminds me of how Reggie Bush use to be on the Saints. Too much dancing around.

pretty good game for TNF. Chris Johnson could have done so much better. He still looks like the same physical specimen but my god, I don’t know if it’s his vision or instinct or trying to do unnecessary jukes/lateral stuff… but something’s still off.
Yea I was pleasantly surprised by that game. Watching the Steelers play has been painful so far this season, with their long ass drives made up almost entirely of 5-10 yard gains. Such slow games it seems.
As for CJ, there was still some hesitation there, but I thought he looked more decisive than in previous weeks. A step in the right direction I believe.

Shit game for a Pittsburgh fan. Injuries out the ying yang as per the course.

I’m back to hating Ike Taylors guts lol. He still makes some great plays but that’a usually after a boneheaded play. Teams are attacking him because they know he’s going to mug the guy half the time and draw the flag, fucking aggravating. He’s worse than Cromartie now.

On a positive note Big Ben passed Terry Bradshaw for most passing yards by a Steeler QB…yawn…

Chris Johnson of two years ago would have racked up 150 yards in that game. Huge holes for him but he didn’t do shit with em’.
Yeah, Mike Mayock really did a great job pointing that out. He’s a great color guy.

Steelers are not that good right now. The OL is worse now than it was last year, and the defense went from good to below average. Ryan Clark and Timmons are the only bright spots on that defense. Clark in particular. He has been the best Steelers defender the past 2 seasons.

The roster is going to see a lot of turnover in 2013. Keisel, Colon, Taylor, Harrison, and Mendenhall will all be gone. Polamalu might be as well if he retires like I hope he does. They need to rebuild because their cap situation is a complete mess.

I would like the front office to draft a safety in next years draft. First round?, yes please.

We’ve been spoiled for many years my man but this roster has pretty much run it’s course as you mentioned.

Regarding Timmons; I know he added some weight this year and he’s playing well but I can’t help but notice he’s slowed a step. Not sure if I would like him to come back next year a little lighter and faster. Can’t wait to see him and Spence next year lining up together. Yep, I’m already talking next year lol.

Ryan Clarke has got to be the most fearless safety in the game. The way he comes up to the line of scrimmage at full speed to nail a RB coming through the hole is frightening. Love the guy.

And Clark, unlike Troy, actually tackles people instead of just launching himself at them. He had like 4 or 5 absolutely perfect form tackles last night.

Troy has to be one of the worst tacklers that’s ever also been considered an elite defensive player. It’s like he’s never even been coached how to hit and wrap. Someone just sent him out there and said “make the guy with the ball fall to the ground” and that was about it.

^ I’ve brought that up about Troy with my Steeler buddies SN but they always shout me down. He drills guys to be sure and he looks great doing it but as far as fundamentals go…

They all think he’s a shoe in for the HOF. I disagree. Too many injuries in my mind. Great playmaker but too much time ridin’ the pine.

It’s hurts to say this but I got to be realistic. To be HOF worthy you got to play great for your whole career. Lynn Swann is excluded from this criteria lol. He wouldn’t even get considered nowadays.

There is no way Polamalu gets in the HOF. He has had 4 good seasons his entire career. The other years he was banged up and either didn’t play a lot or played exceedingly average.

He is in the same boat as Terrell Davis.

The days of the hard hitting Strong Safety are over guys. Heard discussions about this about 4 years ago. Its a passing league, you need two Free safeties or X CB

Because guys Troys size, Roy Williams size just cant stand the long term abuse of the position if they are body rockers. Hell Harrison is breaking down cause he is to small for that position.

Anyhow, Arian Foster seems like an interesting guy (apparently they call him a Renaissance man. Saw the short post-game interview on ESPN. Where the hell did this guy come from? I’m admittedly not very much of a college football fan so I don’t know if he was big in college. I just remember hearing about this rookie who was rushing for 100+ yards in multiple games a couple of years ago. I saw the same thing from Chris Johnson so I thought nothing of it at the time, thinking he’d wear down the hype eventually. To my surprise it looks like the guy is a top 3 RB in the league, if not the best.
Was an undrafted FA from University of Tennessee. He has been a vegetarian since Freshman year at UT and became full Vegan about 2 years ago. He was average at UT with some flashes, what has made him outstanding is the Shanny/Kubiak zone blocking system. Foster knows how to make that one cut and get the most out of it.

Look up Terrell Davis, this is TD in Houston.
Gruden made a comparison of him to Ricky Waters. I can’t really dissagree with that.

Foster is legit, as is Houstons OL.

Man I’m really tired of ESPN rooting for the Jets though. It was pretty brutal last night. They aren’t loveable, they aren’t really all that good. I don’t understand it one bit.

Terrico, who by any standards is a great play by play guy, was purely sucking the Jets dick like he was a hometown guy.

Which, since he’s working for ESPN, he is I suppose.
Hmmm all I heard was a lot of dick sucking of JJ Watt which is deserved. But already calling him a Hall of famer…lets slow down. I didnt hear too much green dick sucking at all.

I dont know why you guys are so surprised of the over coverage of the Jets. You have two of the most polarizing, controversial figures in the NFL on the same team. You have a big mouth blow hard coach in Ryan and Captain Christian in Tebow. People who love Tebow and Ryan will tune in and the same goes for the haters who are chomping at the bit to see him fail.

What I find so ironic is in my 37 years on this earth nobody outside of the tri-state area could give a flying fuck about the Jets, now for the past 3 1/2 years we are inundated and people are crying. If the Jets really shit the bed this year (which is a very real possibility) Ryan may get fired and I pray he becomes a problem of another team so I can start pissing and moaning.
Matty I don’t want to see anyone fail, but I want teams to get the coverage they deserve. The Jets are getting a ton of attention for no real reason other than a bunch of polarizing story lines, and it’s not only annoying, it’s boring.

I think the recieving corps is going to improve now that Holmes is out. Not sure if he’s always crying for the ball or if the coaching staff is making him the #1 guy, but your recievers looked pretty good overall, and Sanchez was able to spread the ball around pretty well on certain drives.

Silver linings.
Oh I agree, Im bored with it myself, but Im not surprised that they are getting coverage because of the controversial figures.

Honestly though, they have w/o a doubt the worst offense in the league…those receivers are deplorable. Clyde Gates, Chaz Schillens and Jason Hill? Jason Hill was working at Target 2 weeks ago!

While you may not want to see the Jets fail, I think most people on this thread would love to see Ryan, Sanchez and Tebow shit the bed.
I’d like to see Tebow converted to OLB he’d at least be as good as what the Jets have now and he could only get better and wouldn’t take every other play off.

I was thinking he would make a good defensive player. Like a Clay Mathews or Jarret Allen type, thought?

Taking Giants with the points against the niners…

I think the niners will win a close one…

Can the Giants ever play the niners in Jersey?

My personal opinion is that Troy gets injured all the time because of his offseason strength and conditioning program. total out of my arse comment

The Chiefs have me mired in the depths of utter depression, I have barely managed to look at this thread in weeks. When Brady Quinn is your savior you know you are cursed.

My second team for the rest of the season will be the Falcons, would love to see Gonzo win a ring.

I think you’r making a pretty smart bet, actually. The Niners are on a roll, but the last quality team they played they got beat by. And I think the spread is at 6 or 6.5 points right now, which seems like it’s artificially high because a lot of people are betting on the Niners and the points in Vegas right now so the line is up high to reflect that.

I don’t know. Maybe it opened at 6 too, I’m not sure. But I would have thought the spread would be down around 3.5 or 4 so maybe Vegas set it a little high in anticipation of a lot of people betting on the Niners. That’s all they really do in Vegas anyways. The odds are really just a combination of the actual chances a team has and the way people are betting or might be expected to bet.

I just saw this about Harbaugh. I guess the Giants OC, Kevin Gilbride, said that Justin Smith gets away with murder because he holds on every play. Harbaugh made some sort of statement that basically said Gilbride was an incendiary jerk for even insinuating that a player of Smith’s level wasn’t a clean player or that his greatness was somehow from cheating or getting away with it or whatever.

I love Harbaugh, but for fuck’s sake has this guy been to a psychiatrist recently? Sometimes I wonder whether Harbaugh is intense or intensely insane. I guess he’s just trying to create something that can give the Niners a reason to put another chip on their shoulder at a time when they may be a little over-confident. But sometimes I think he might go a little overboard. But I still fucking love it. The guy is the best coach in professional sports as far as I’m concerned.

Your Avi says it all DB. He’s certifiable.

I like him better than his brother that’s for sure. How quickly he transformed the Niners from god awfull to SB contenders is amazing no doubt. I’d be curious to know what how much his roster has changed over since he became the HC. He probably turfed quite a few.

When he first took over the team, the only significant additions were in their secondary during his first offseason last year. They added Donte Whitner and Carlos Rogers. Well, through free agency, anyways. But all of the significant additions since he’s been there otherwise have been through the draft, and he’s had a large in hand that process.

In the last three years they’ve drafted Chris Culliver, Tarell Brown (DBs who start or get lots of PT), Bruce Miller (starting FB and one of the best in the league; was also a defensive end in college and never played FB until his rookie year), Kendall Hunter, Mike Iupati, Anthony Davis, Alex Boone (3 of 5 starting OL), Aldon Smith, NaVorro Bowman, Kyle Williams and Colin Kaepernick. Harbaugh didn’t draft all those guys, but he’s basically developed all of them. That doesn’t even include anyone drafted this year. Their top two picks won’t even see much, if any, playing time this year because they’re already so deep everywhere. They’re basically sitting a healthy Jacobs right now so he’s healthy later in the season when they might need him more because they’re so stacked running the ball that they can afford to leave a quality, healthy guy out.

Bottom line is that most of the pieces in place last year were also in place the previous year, short of last year’s draft picks. They did have a really, really good draft last year , though.
