NFL 2012

Will be interesting if NFL says “everyone makes mistakes” again…

Even if the lockout ends tomorrow, I think they replacement refs will still have to play next week. The real refs have to go through training again and get fitted for new uniforms from nike.

Did the booth even review that play? I think they did, how was that still a touchdown after a booth review???

The rule is that if it is ruled a TD on the field, it is not allowed to be reviewed and changed. So the refs actually made a few errors on the last play. I heard about all the training the real refs will have to do and also they must get fitted for the new Nike uniforms.

I only lurk on these threads now, but I must break the silence, and I will keep it brief.

I will not be watching another NFL game until the correct referees are back on the field or my team is credited the win they rightfully deserve.

Just. Fucking. Pathetic.

Watch the play again, Shields was grabbing the jersey with his left hand.

I’m tired of hearing about the goddamn replacement refs. Aaron Rodgers got sacked 8 times but he was bitching about the refs at the end of the game. Scott, Dilfer, and Young spend 20 minutes bitching about the calls, and then Stuart Scott goes “and the worst part about it is we aren’t even talking about the game.” Motherfucker, you could have been talking about the game but you’d rather beat the dead horse that is the replacement ref “controversy.”

I’m sure last year’s NFL thread contains people bitching about plenty of botched calls. The NFL introduced replay because refs were botching calls. It bothers me that every call that is even borderline is suddenly “destroying the fabric of the NFL.” These players and coaches are acting like children after every game because now there’s a scapegoat when you can’t close out a game. I just heard a commentator say “the NFL was a Mona Lisa, and now they’ve drawn a mustache on it.”

I hope that when the normal refs come back this level of scrutiny on officiating is maintained, because right now it seems like a bunch of crybabies bitching and moaning and looking for excuses.

Sorry guys, I’m just getting tired of this.

Moot point. “You want to lose with your best horse.”

I dare you to maintain your position when your team experiences the same robbery.

That was a good pass interference call. Gruden thought it was a bad call. Like you said, you could easily see him grabbing his jersey.

Take Soprano’s field goal fist pumps away and now Dan Carpenter is nothing. I fear that was what he got his strength from.

I also love that ESPN keeps talking about the simultaneous catch bs, fucking tate clearly did an offensive pass interference before the ball even came to those guys… that play shouldnt have been a touch down just because that. it was an obvious offensive pass interference.

Nope, just no. I was probably the one who did complain about the refs previously, and i would’ve agreed with you after the first couple of weeks. But after this game and and a few others i’ve watched recently, but especially this game. I have to disagree. They missed two calls on the last play, and that was only one play. It’s when calls like the one at the end of the game are missed twice… That is the type of call they need to get right everytime, especially if they have a second chance with it. It’s calls like that that are in fact ruining the game.

I can understand maybe missing the call the first time, but the replay too! That’s a travesty, plain and simple.

On a side note,

Game has been going downhill for awhile now with all the stupid rules that are now enforced. Like the horsecollar tackle and all the roughing the passer and the big hits now being called penalties. I still watch game because it’s an awesome fucking game, but they’ve been ruining it for awhile now.

It’s a physical game, and they are attempting to take the physical part out of the game.

One thing that the commentators were arguing during the NE/Balt game in particular was that the replacement refs were allowing greater physicality leading to more of an “old-school,” smashmouth type of game. Do you think this is true? Do you view it as positive or negative?

They do allow more physicality, until a coach gets in their face, intimidates the fuck out of them after a non-call and then all of a sudden every time a defender breathes wrong it’s a pass interference or unnecessary roughness call. And it can go back and forth like this several times in the same quarter.

I don’t think players really have an issue with the way a game is called as long as it’s called consistently. Inconsistencies inevitably lead to one team getting fucked in the ass while the refs essentially guide the other team’s cock right into the victimized team’s asshole.

It is true to an extent, but in my opinion only because they are missing the calls. Not because they are letting them go. The play where Green bay intercepted the ball, but was overturned due to “roughing” the passer was a good example of a call that if they were letting player play, they should not have made that call. Hell even under normal situations, even if the regular refs were there that should be a non call.

If they really are letting some plays go, and not missing them, why would they still be calling all the bullshit calls. The ravens game had alot of those calls go against them yesterday as well. So i’m pretty sure the refs aren’t allowing greater physicality, but instead they simply aren’t making the calls and are just missing them.

Which is why i know there is a problem. A few calls here and there, who cares. I agree on that aspect, but when you’re are missing so many calls, as well as important calls that simply shouldn’t be missed. Well then we have a problem with the refs, and that needs to be resolved quickly.

I dare you to maintain this level of scrutiny when the regular officials come back. I don’t think that there have been more bad, game influencing calls than in previous seasons.

On the other hand, look at the way players, coaches and the media are responding. Apparently Packers players are dropping expletive-laden rants on twitter. Mike McCarthy and his team are such bad sports that they ran off the field without even playing the extra point. A ref had to go get them to finish up the game.

And I don’t want to single out the Packers, since I actually like them and Rodgers has been a fantasy staple for me for a few seasons now. The general response around the league though has been shrill and childish.

One example that crystallized it for me was in the Falcons-Broncos game where Jon Fox is livid, yelling in a ref’s ear as the ref flags him for too many men on the field. Guess what? The replay showed that yes indeed, Fox had too many men on the field. And yet all the articles the next day featured the photo of Fox getting upset to solidify their point about crummy refs.

All the pushing and shoving after plays, the bitching after games, and the “sky is falling” panic on the part of the media is doing more to harm the NFL than these officials.

Could not agree more. The guy is a goddamned fraud and it fucking nauseates me every time I hear that motherfucking murderer start pontificating about football as a metaphor for life or whatever. It’s a fucking GAME dude. Get over yourself.
I thought I was going to get ripped for hating on Lewis, I’m happy I’m not the only one, and I have never understood Americas infatuation.
I think a lot of people don’t know about his past and all that. Younger fans, anyways. I think a lot of people really eat up his schtick because it validates their obsession with football. If Lewis is that serious about the game it must make some of the real lunatic fans feel a little more normal about their own devotion to the sport.

I’m not talking about fans like those that participate in this thread, of which I am one. I’m talking about fans like that pig-faced Arkansas Razorback wacko whose video of herself crying and whining or whatever went viral on YouTube a couple weeks ago. Not that you’re automatically a crazed zealot if you’re a fan of Ray Lewis’ wholly insincere act. But I just think that he especially appeals to fans who live vicariously through football.

Personally, I think Lewis knows he’s a total fraud and has created this gross caricature in some bizarre, misguided attempt to convince himself that he’s doing something REALLY important for humanity as a form of penance for whatever his involvement in that murder was, which I highly suspect was a large involvement.

What makes this whole situation really fucked on the part of the NFL office is just how little money this entire debacle is being played out over. The refs are only asking for a raise from about $145K per season to $185K per season. Do they really deserve a 30% raise? Before this whole disaster I would have said no. But regardless of whether they actually deserve it, to the NFL that amount of money must be an absolutely infinitesimal percentage of its annual revenue.

How many fucking refs are there anyways. Even if there were several hundred of them, giving them each an extra 40 grand each year isn’t going to mean shit to their bottom line. But they’d rather just give us this shit product from week to week due to pure avarice. This whole thing could be over with tomorrow for probably a quarter of a percent of their entire revenue.

It wasn’t.

You could call it incidental contact or maybe even makeup call after prior offensive-holding penalties but you cannot say defensive PI was good call there.

CB matches pace AND gets his head around, that’s just sound technique
