NFL 2011 Part III

To continue the discussion from TK.

Okay if you look at most Great Defenses in the NFL they have an Elite Pass rusher. It tends to elevate the play of all the defense. Justin was not getting doubled that much last year, teams were not game planning to stay away from him.

Aldon has started to make teams aware, this opens up other guys to make plays also. Its a team effort for sure. If he would have been a bust I just believe the niners would have been the same type of D as last year. Now they are really scary.

Unless they play the Cowboys who kicked there ass.

That last sentence displays the grammatical skill I would expect of a Cowboys fan.

Yeah I was saying last year we just needed one really good pass rusher, and I didn’t know enough about Aldon to guess if the pick would be worth it (don’t follow college much outside of PSU). The bottom line is we are getting lots of pressure - yesterday notwithstanding - with a 4-man pass rush now. Little blitzing required.

Given how close our wins have been though, everything has to go right. A huge reason for being 7-1 is Alex Smith suddenly forgetting how to turn the ball over. I hope this is a real change and not a fluke.

^ Coaching and I fixed my error.

If your front 4 are taking 5 to block that opens up your LB’s to wreck Havoc. Hell Steelers and Ravens have been doing that for 12-15 years. How do you think Ray Ray lasted 16 years in the league?

I dont hate the 49rs yet, I just hope we get back to the good ole days. Boys and 49rs dominating the league.

Crabtree is at least looking like a solid #2.

I watch all football, but I mostly watch college to scout for the pro.

I was pretty young then but I miss the days when I hated the Cowboys. We haven’t been good enough to hate anyone for a while.

Also, do you think Felix Jones gets more than 8 carries/game when he returns? Murray has been ridic.

I’m disappointed in Rob. I thought w/the talent he had on the front 7 that they could/would dominate & create better field position for the O. He needs to shut his trap about being so good. Not sure if anyone noticed yesterday but Rex was on post-game & sounded like a man who had been humbled. No loud mouth bull-shit. I hope he allows the team to do the talking from here on out.

No question in my mind that GB w/Rodgers as hot as he is can’t go undefeated. DAMN! They are good.

How about Peyton coming out & saying if the Colt’s draft Luck that he should start & they trade him. Could be a real interesting off-season if that occurs.

I posted this a few posts back.

Felix = 11-12 touches a game carries and catches
DM = 18-20 touches a game carries and catches

If they follow that will equal a shit ton more wins. Our problem is the red zone, we move the ball all over the field, but die inside the 20.

Rob said all that at the first of the season, I think the Eagles game showed him.

I will say that our two inside LB’s are showing their age. With Sean Lee being out reallys hows how old Brookings is. I just hope Bruce Carter learns fast and can help fill the void until Lee gets healed up.

I knew from watching Lee at PSU he would be a steal.

Honest opinion, you think Rob gets a lot of undeserved attention because of his name? Has he coordinated an elite defense yet?

Sorry if this has been covered in prior iterations of the thread… I try to keep up this time.

He was the LB coach on the Pats 3 SB wins. He was the Raiders DC prior to Cable taking the job and then he was at the Browns DC till this year.

I have been wanting the guy for a few years now, he has taken the Raiders and the Browns and made them respectable with hardly any talent. He had no off season to install his D, and we only brought a couple of his players to the team. This is still Wade’s defense, I knew this year was going to be up and down. He gets more of his style of players and with D Ware we will be back in the top 5.

IMO I always thought the Browns D was always more tied with Shaun Rodgers’ health while Ryan was there… is that a poor impression?

Yep, I certainly stand corrected.

Most NFL observers were scratching their heads about SF just letting Aubreyo Franklin walk (signed with NO) but maybe they knew what they were doing. I actually doubt it, but their weak division was no mystery at least.

On topic, an elite pass rusher often makes a secondary look better than they are (and an elite QB can make the opposing offense one-dimensional and playing catchup) and that’s why both those literally game-changning positions get paid the big, big bucks.

Look what the Browns did last year against the Pats and a few other good teams. Problem with the browns has been NO fucking Offense. Their D was always playing from behind in that reqards. In this D we need to beef up or front 3 and have inside LB’s that can hold their own on covering TE’s. That was what the Eagles exploited that game. Brookings has lost a big step and it looks like Brady James has also.

Fucking Pat’s defense is just bad. That’s going to fuck them up all year, there is no reason to have lost that game.
I just don’t understand why they didn’t bolster their D from the draft and trades??? It was weak last year too. If I were belichick, I’d be shopping Bama and LSU pretty hard for the draft.

I dont know Pat I know big Bill has gotten some grief the last two drafts that he needs to stop stockpiling and actually fucking use some of the picks.

He did get two awesome TE’s though. He has a decent middle of the D, his problem is LB and secondary.

Belicheats biggest problem on def. isn’t just that he has bad players, but he doesn’t have take charge, call plays players. In the past he’s had both Teddy’s & Harrison to read the O & than switch the calls to what would work best for the def. Their is no clear cut leader on def. either. Outside of Wilfork, none of them stay in their gaps.

da bears

I wonder when we will start hearing that Bellichecks glory years on Defense were from players that actually werent his players at all more Bill Parcells guys.

I think Belicheat has a good scheme, he just doesn’t have the players to fill it. Remember his is one that requires some cerebral work.

This is why I give a pass to Leonhard for us. He certainly ain’t the greatest safety, but he does get guys in the correct position. That’s big.

Ouch Matty slamming big Bill.

I think he has just spent to much time trying to retool the O line to protect Baby Brady and getting him some weapons. Now he is just to heavy on O and the D is killing him.

Plus all you need to do is miss on a few players on one side of the ball and you are fucked.

AGAIN like I say all the time, if he had a dominate pass rusher that would cover up the secondary weaknesses.

LOL I dont get to do this too many times, so Im juicing this week dry!

Seriously though (maybe Im wrong beans LMK) McGinest, Vrabel, Milloy, Johnson, Bruschi, Law. They were all on Parcell’s Pats team in 96 right?
