NFL 2011 Part 4

^ wow why the Elway hate?

Not in any way a Broncos fan, but just curious.

Can someone explain to me why Dallas and Washington are getting money taken away from them? This seems like Goodell overstepping his bounds again.

While I think this is a horseshit call by the league, Goodell is not a dictator.

What. The. Fuck. Skins can’t catch a break at all.

I seriously wonder what kind of rules were in place in 2010 that specifically stated they couldn’t front load contracts. If all these contracts were approved by the league, why are they now coming back onto Dallas and the Skins. An appeal woudl be nice but that would probably tie us up during the first day or so of FA and would probably somehow backfire and lose us even more.

My understanding is that individual contracts are approved by the league, but only in the context of that contract and not how it applies to the teams overall payroll and cap number. It is the team’s responsibility to manage the cap; the league only steps in when there is a violation of it.

My problem is that I don’t understand how any of what I just wrote applies when there was NO CAP in that year.

Exactly!

I don’t remember how it was regarding cap space then but was there an understanding that 2010 would be uncapped and 2011 would be capped?

Moss to the niners, good deal for them if he shows up and stays motivated. Maybe he can motivate Crabs as well, but have to remember they will still have alex smith throwing the ball to them.

Big if. The guy couldn’t stay motivated in New England with a top 3 QB throwing to him.

ESPN reporting that WAS trades up to the #2 pick in the draft.

Prob they realized Peyton was serious about avoiding divisional matchups with Eli…

YES!!!

Now the Broncos just need to open the safe and pull out as much money as possible!!
You already have Jesus, and now you want Peyton too? No way, he is coming to the Chiefs.
Either way he always loses to the Chargers!!
Kind of trying to figure out this statement as you split with both the Broncos and the Chiefs last year?

He’s talking about Peyton Manning. Manning beat SD the year they won the SB.

Colston staying in NO. FA starts in 7 minutes! Miami and Bears just agreed to a traade of B Marshall for 2 3rd rounders

From what I recall from yesterday’s PTI, it was about DAL & WAS basically taking advantage of that one uncapped year by restructing/frontloading contracts to be heaviest during that year (and thereby buying relief in later, re-capped years)

Apparently other teams (like NO) also did the same, but it’s that WAS and DAL were so blatant, so egregious with their attempts at “bending” the rules during that year…

Smart move for Colston and B Marshall gettin his old QB back solves a lot of issues (on paper, anyway)

Fun time of the year, buckle up…

Not sure if I like this signing. Even in his prime, Moss is strictly a one-dimensional threat. He runs deep routes down the sideline and not much else at all and Smith simply isn’t a deep-threat QB, never has been. Even if Moss still has the speed and separation, I’m not sure how well Smith will be able to exploit it. They need a deep threat, but ideally one who isn’t so one-dimensional. If they could turn around and land Mike Wallace or maybe Mario Manningham, with Moss as a third receiver, then I like this move. But as of now, they’re still a WR short.

V. Jackson signed with the Bucs. I think they overpaid. He’s a little older and is not going to have as good as a QB throwing to him. Either way the Chargers will miss his production.

No idea actually lol. Just an irrational hatred.

Just never liked him for some reason, maybe it was the stooge he pulled at the draft. Dunno.

If there is proof the Miami front office doesn’t know what it is doing…

Unless they know something about Manning I cannot see the point in that one, 2 3rd rounders is pretty poor value for the Dolphins too.

Especially now it looks like Reggie Wayne is staying in Indy.

Niners just resigned Rogers for 4 years and $30 million. Rumor is they’re also about to sign Eric Wright at CB. Their defense is actually getting better. Bringing Rogers back means they’ll retain all 11 starters. Nice.

Yep his ability to stretch the field and keep defenses honest re: Gates will be missed. Plus there just aren’t that many legit WR1-types in the whole league period.

Dang, that’s a legit worry for the entire rest of the league.
