Thanks for this Brick. I think the last show I went to was about 10 years ago. Sworn Enemy and 5 minute Major lol. Growing up these bands were my heroes loved the music and the scene. Those all ages shows were crazy and downright intimidating for me as a kid. It would be great to see SOIA and Madball play again 2 of my favorites. Maybe I’ll load up my minivan with my old friends from Queens and relive some of the great times of my youth
I was hoping you would see this and reply. Thanks!

I’m sure they won’t be intimidating now considering you’re pretty scary looking now.

If you are going, please update this thread or email me at the address from long back. I don’t use that one much now, but I check it once in awhile. I wouldn’t mind saying hello. I am likely going with my friend if he can get off from work on Saturday, or will go to the Sunday show if he can’t do that… or both (if I have the energy). If he doesn’t go, I’m going alone.

I’m sure you’re familiar with Lord Ezec from Skarhead and Crown of Thornz. If I recall, he is from your town, or near you. Did you check out his new rap stuff? It’s kind of corny, but I think you might appreciate this video. It reminded me so much of my childhood with all the writers featured. I remember them like yesterday. My uncle had a store near Five Pointz, where much of this video was filmed.

(Pardon the derail on my own thread).

For some reason a lot of NYHC guys are dabbling with rap now.

He sure does lol! I actually like the song, but of course Im a bit biased since all those DMS guys are from my old neighborhood. Shit I cant promise anything but I may go on a saturday by myself and meet you there. I still have your old email, Ill email you and give you my updated info. I think it would be a blast especially now being an old man.

I think 5 pointz is over with, I think its being turned into condos, which Im not surprised LIC has become nothing but condos.

I know Blood for Blood is from boston, but they’re another one of my favorite hardcore bands of all time, which I learned about from this site.
Blood for Blood is awesome, and in my constant rotation, awesome tough guy stuff lol

I started another thread asking who else was in a band, but since this thread pertains to punk/hardcore and is already link-heavy, I guess I’ll throw my own hat into the ring if nobody minds.

I play bass and sing in a Boston punk band called the Straight Eights. At the expense of showing off just how small and out-of-shape I’ve let myself become over the last 4 years (but undoing that damage now), here’s a video of us… I forgot a line in the last verse, haha.

If you like that and wanna follow us, we’re at:

Then I give you more DMS and Jackson Heights nostalgia I bumped into.

Sure! That would be great. My friend is going with me. We’ve been joking about moshing at 35 and 36 years old and hooked on old bands all over again and discovering newer ones. I actually this renewed interest is adding to my life, for real, just as it did when I was younger.

It’s coincidental you mentioned that considering I mentioned my uncle’s old store close by. A real estate developer bought the building of which it is a part, demolishing it, having stores and condos built in the location. My uncle has first rights to his store location which he is getting back in about a year when all construction is done. My brother was living in a nice condo in LIC for awhile, by the water.

I loved taking a visit to Five Pointz. So much NYC history there. I get kind of pissed that I didn’t take flicks of he highways when I was young.

That’s awesome. Thanks for the post.

Dude, many people get in and out of shape because of… life. It’s not a big deal and you will get back in shape.

Are you from one of the boroughs of NYC?
I’m from the rural south. Started listening to pro-pain when I started lifting. I created a pro-pain Pandora channel and that’s how I know about some of the other NYC hardcore bands.

I loathe even being in a big city. However, the struggles of poor people are nearly universal.

Just found out on Pitchfork website that Mackie aka Hyper (graff name) and Jon Joseph from Cro-mags and some Bad Brains guys will be making guest appearances!

Living in a big city like NYC is unbearable at times.

Major mosh action compilation here. I laughed my ass off for most of this. This is some of the most insane and hilarious footage I’ve seen.

I believe the guy with the long hair delivering the jump kick at the 20 second mark is Sob DMS from Merauder.

When I first started going to shows in the early 90s, the pit was slam dancing, pogoing, skanking, etc. It was fun, everybody was generally pretty cool.

Somewhere along the lines, it became a wannabe tough guy karate demonstration, with assholes basically trying to punch, kick, and elbow anybody within their reach. They don’t even respect the perimeter, barreling into people who just want to watch the show.

I really hate that shit. We get it, dude, you’re 5’4", 200lbs, and you settle every problem you have with violence. Awesome. Why don’t you do that outside?

Or the lanky dudes doing the jumping spin kicks and stupid shit like that. What the fuck is that all about? Terrific kata, Grasshopper. Here’s your brown belt.

I don’t get it. Maybe I’m just old. I generally stay away from the pit now, although I saw the Queers recently and that was more of a good, old-school pit, so I snuck in while my girl was in the ladies’ room, haha.

That was awesome

Sob from Merauder used to hit and kick people in the face, as seen here.

There’s a reason I just listened to the music in the privacy of my own home and car or through headphones.

LOL, your 100% right.

Refer to the 2:03 mark. How did half the crowd wind up onstage?

This guy UGHC1 on Youtube has a golden channel, with loads of LI and NY hardcore and LA and LI/NY graff. Always loved MQ DMS’s bubble letters, and he is in LA now, from the looks of the videos.

We snuck into one of the last Black Flag shows ever before Rollins split; it was in a little Veteran’s hall in Seattle with maybe 100 people. My buddy was right up front baiting Rollins for most of the show, just screaming shit at him for whatever reason. Rollins was wearing only sub-four running shorts and no other clothes, no socks or anything, tattoos in full display. My buddy kept yelling shit like, “Hey Rollins, is this Black Flag or Black Sabbath? Time to get another tatoo you cock-sucker,” and shit like that, until Rollins cracked him square in the face with the mike stand and broke his nose. It was classic.

That is not cool, but still comical!

I am completely confused by Rollins. I know I said Jello annoys me, but Rollins does too, though I don’t like bashing people, especially as I get older. It’s just… I don’t know, perhaps these guys SEEM like they try to be more sophisticated than they are when speaking. I once went to Rollins spoken-word shows and I had no idea WTF was going on.

If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you? I’m 35. I misse the golden era, so to speak.

And yah, I’ve heard from friends that Henry’s spoken-words shows are mostly gibberish. I personally think he likes charging white liberals cash for those shows who pay so they can feel a little dark and dirty; and then he hands out a bunch of gibberish like its an inside joke while he collects their money. Or he’s actually just not that bright. So, your take on the show is probably pretty spot on.

Ive Been to three Rollins spoken word shows. I actually enjoyed all of them and have a lot of his books and don’t feel duped at all . Although I couldn’t help but think “spoken word” is really less funny comedic standup. There was nothing dark or punk at all about his spoken word shows, I’m happy I spent the 35 bucks. But many of it was pretty funny. Get in the van was an awesome account of his early years in DC and your life with black flag.

I’ve never been to one; I’m also a big Henry Rollins fan, so I didn’t mean any offense. I love his open letter to Ann Coulter.
