I actually got into an argument on NYE about this very idea. An addendum to my argument was that the more people you tell about your resolution, the less you actually intend to follow through with it. My evidence was that I couldn’t think of one person I knew that had made a new years resolution and stuck with it.

Yeah, I read something about how when you tell people what you’re going to do, goals-wise, the part of your brain responsible for motivating you says “Good job, you did it!” even when you haven’t completed the task. So that’s why I tell no one anything. Less disappointment in my mother’s eyes.

Little sister’s knocked up. Less pressure on me for the time being, yay!
But she does want a smart grandkid, so there’s still plenty of pressure…

My resolution last year was to make the gym a habit again. I’m still going to the gym but not feeling like it’s a habit yet.
I think my fitness one this year will be cardio related, maybe run a 10 min mile. Not even sure if that’s possible for a non runner. lol Or maybe make running a habit again. Hmmm
Good luck with the no arguing Oleena. Do you think you can do it?
lol I LOVE that comic. That’s been me for the last two years and it should stop. I’m sure I can stop
Running a 10 min mile is VERY doable for a non runner. It’s all about getting smaller while building up capacity.
BTW, last year I publically set two goals on here: complete an Olympic distance triathlon and run a 6 minute mile. I did do the 6 minute mile and decided I can’t stand the way I look when all I do is cardio. Interestingly, the 6 minute mile wasn’t run while doing the olympic distance training, but while doing mix of cardio-heavy (20 min+) crossfit and weight training.

I’m sure you do great with your goals all year 'round :)
Lol, not recently…been eating and drinking way too much, but having fun at least.
Well that’s the holidays. You’ll get back on track soon, I’m sure.

x2.
goals when put off to a special day is kinda BS. If you are truly committed, you wouldn’t wait til NYE to start. Waiting until NYE makes it less important and quite ordinary since everyone seems to make one then break it later. It seems that resolutions are about TALKING about your ideals rather than actually doing them. Yes, New Years Resolutions are more about hoping than achieving, considering that no one seems to follow them.
BUT I found setting themes for yourself is an interesting concept. (If I could remember where I read this from, I would give them credit.) Why limit your goals anyway? Each year, this lady would revolve her life around words such as love, trust etc… and notes how she lives based on those words. I am doing this for 2012 and see how I grow.
MY theme words are: REDEMPTION & COMMITMENT
My “New Year’s resolution” started after xmas:
Follow through on ALL the things I never completed (or what I can remember)
Make amends for what I’ve done wrong to others and heal some severed relationships (whether it’s my fault or not; #2 goes both ways. I am on a quest to banish my own anger and disappointment from other’s too)
Live the motto: Once I say it, I must do it. (i am gonna be a bit selective with what I promise now. lol)
