Anyone particular in mind?
Why let one arseholes opinion affect your actions? One of my favourite pieces of advice: some people aren’t going to like you, you need to be ok with that.
Yup, I’ve gone a long way in making peace with this fact over the last 1-2 years. It’s liberating to realize that you can’t do anything about it.
Failing to accept that is a recipe for disaster, and a really common one among people.
As per the topic of this thread…
I’m not big on resolutions. When I decide I want something, I usually start working towards that right away. This is not always the best course of action as I can be impulsive, but that’s the way I tend to do things. Off the top of my mind, here are some things I want to accomplish this year:
- Become bigger, stronger, and leaner
- Be up to par with all of my exams in university and excel at what I can
- Improve my overall discipline and consistency so I get closer to always knowing that, whether I failed or succeeded, I know I did everything I could
- Travel abroad at least once (I never did it)
- Improve my mindset, try and be more and more grateful for what I have, develop a more optimistic outlook
Never understood why a change of date should influence my goals… however this year I would like to get a decent deadlift, increase my bench, be in shape to be able to sprint again and get close se to my purple belt.
Re: drinking.
Hardly drink anymore, and if I do it’s 1-2 beers socially over dinner, and sometimes just a random beer on the weekend with lunch if there is no training later. I prefer drinking at lunch, as even a few drinks at dinner has enough of an effect to impact my sleep.

More travelling, more sex, more weights and more money.
Last year I went on more trips than average, and spent more time with family than the last 3 years combined. Sticking to the formula I got going on.
- Get a social life
- 300lb+ deadlift, 60kg+bench, 100kg+squat
3.3.8+GPA - put on some muscle (without getting fat)
COME TO SHANGHAI!!!
New Years Resolutions?
Not really a fan, cause if you need to make changes in your life, you need to do it right away.
That being said…
I want to lose some bodyfat, and get down to under 215 (at 230 now)
and…
I want to spend less money on my jeep, which means I need to drop some of my rock crawling friends. They are just bad influences.
and…
I need to cut down on drinking. I can kill a handle of vodka a week. ugh.
Do it… but do it without family
I’ve travelled many times with close family (say mother father brother) and just recently by myself… WAY more fun at our age when solo/with friends or others our age
If I recall correctly a handle is 40 shots right? Which means you’re going through almost 6 drinks per day.
How long have you been doing this? Have you tried to stop? I’d imagine if this has been going on for some time it’d be very difficult to cease use for the induction of withdrawal symptoms associated with alcohol withdrawal tends to be particularly severe in comparison to many other compounds
Wazzup Unreal?
Yeah, i quit or slow down from time to time. picked up that habit about 8-9 years ago, went through a rough patch, and discovered the hard stuff - used to only drink beer, but found that Vodka is faster and has less of a hangover!
Its not really a problem, believe it or not - but…that being said, it is unsustainable, and i do need to make some changes as i head into my late 50’s
Funny, I started drinking straight whiskey at about the same time. I usually limit it to weekend evenings. I’ll be stopping for a while in January to drop Christmas weight. It’s not the booze that makes me gain. It’s the food that I want to eat when I drink it. For some reason cheese is my go to food with whiskey. Also smoked meat.
If you stop do you acquire withdrawal symptoms or cravings? If so, then it’s a problem. I fully understand the notion of heavily drinking though, regarding ethanol consumption it’s the only drug I’ve ever heavily abused to the point where one could consider the use “problematic”. It’s very, very good at numbing pain/ailment from past events and calming one’s nerves… but it’s also one of the most damaging/destructive drugs one can use long term
Same here! I like vodka tonics, and the quinine is not great for my digestion, and with the vodka i figure that i add at least 400 calories, that in addition to the bad diet choices when I’m drinking (chips, pretzels, salty foods) all does not help me achieve my goals -
sad, but thats the only reason that i use to make changes - lol
Thats the thing, I dont have cravings for it when i slow down or stop. No DT’s or shakes, or grumpiness…
It’s more of a habit than anything else.
My mom had been drinking a handle of rotgut whisky a week from the time i can remember (and smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day), and she lived till she was 85. Her lungs and liver were not the reason she died!! astounding, no?
Sounds crazy, but ya cant fight genetics, ya’know?
anyway - it does not help me reach my goals, so I’ll be making some changes~
Happy 2020 ya’all~
my wife and I are on a 45 day dry spell (until V-day) these past 6 days or so I’ve been feeling damn great if I’m being honest.
Interesting. I do this periodically and don’t notice a difference in how I feel. I end up doing it so I don’t have to shoe horn myself into my pants. Like @Edgy I eat like an asshole when I drink. It would be nice to see a difference in how I feel as well.
What’s different, Polo?
not as groggy/more alert when I’m waking up. Mood is better (that could be because of the demand for my time over the holidays skyrockets compared to post-holiday malaise).
EDIT: To be clear, I didn’t think I was drinking “a lot” - just a lot more than I usually would. Instead of a beer/wine with dinner, I’d have a beer while cooking dinner, wine with dinner and a night cap. Plus all the damn parties…
