Ok Hibler–are you my long lost Brother or something? DEFTONES RULE. They have been my #1 band since 96 when Adrenaline came out!
RagingBassist— the reason why you may thing that White Pony sounds similar to Tool is b/c Maynard collaborated with Chino on this album.
If you know their History—Deftones started to go off the deepend when Chino became an alcoholic!
MaryJane- You got some bad ass musical taste, and you’re on T-Nation. There need to be more like you.
Why thank you sir. I love music that you can fight, fuck, and have fun to!
Wow…I think I’m in love. Why can’t I meet a girl like this?
Well…I love both bands…but I do have to give it to Tool for a more complex and overall appealing sound. I think that has a lot to do with Adam, who writes some awesome guitar parts in a rather bass led ban, as well as Danny…weird ass guy…but awesome drummer.

My man is like a fucking Octopus. His drum set up is fucking crazy. Have you heard any of his side band? Pigmy Love Circus? That shit is wild. I am really excited about this new CD in April. Lets just hope it is not another April fools joke. I remember last year when the local alt radio station announced Maynard was changing his life for Christ. I almost shat myself.

Yeah…Pigme Love Circus is cool. And I know TOOL is my favorite band and all…but I happen to think that DAnny Carey is THE BEST drummer in the world also.
This is a TOOL thread, and yes I love PC and Deftones also, But anyone else besides me think Chevelle rocks too!? It’s a marriage b/w deftones and TOOL. Lots of screaming, great guitar and drums. Call me crazy–but I think their first album rocked!
Best drummer in the world…i wouldn’t go that far…a few jazz drummers whose names i used to know but can’t remember…neil peart would be up there…But he and the bass players’ ability to create such harmony with each other for Adam to create simple yet great sounding riffs to…awesome…just awesome. Maynard is definitely up there as far as vocalists go. Just a great collaboration of musicians that you don’t see very often…a power foursome akin to Rush’s unique triad of brutally talented musicians.

I’ve seen both Tool and APC live and whilst the latter are very good, nothing even comes close to the experience that is a Tool gig - literally an experience of a lifetime
A friend described APC’s music as being the feminine match to Tool’s masculine, which is not a bad way of putting it. Certainly, APC is a lot more accessible to uninitiated listeners. Let’s face it, Tool’s 10, 15 and 20 minute tracks aren’t exactly made for radio or for those with short attention spans
Lateralus came out in April 2001 so yeah, it really has been five years! And Aenima, their last studio album came out in 1996 - so they sure like to keep the fans waiting
Lateralus is so layered that it took me three months of nonstop listening to begin to appreciate how brilliant it was - and I still play it every couple of weeks and wonder how people can create with music like that
An interview with Danny Carey late last year quoted him as saying that the music the band had been working on for the new album is the most amazing thing he’d been involved in his life

This is the first I’ve heard of it too. I’m excited, but I hope Maynard keeps the fucking politics out of his lyrics this time, unlike the last APC release.

I have never been much into the Deftones, but I do like Chevelle. They are a good band and both of their cd’s are really good. I need to look into the Deftones though. I don’t really know much of their music. Recommend me a couple of thier cd’s to download. Thanks.

Deftones- White pony- insanely good music. Adrenaline- excellent to lift to. engine #9 is the best song ever for lifting. Passenger- has Maynard as a guest vocalist. all there music is great, but Adrenaline, and White Pony are my two favorites.
Wguitar, you know your stuff, especially with the Rush reference and comparison.
As for my opinions on Chevelle and Deftones:
It’s noise. Bad noise. Unsettling drawn out overdone noise that makes me want to pluck out my eyelashes with bbq tongs. Might not be the popular opinion among Tool fans, but Deftones and Chevelle should sell their instruments on ebay and call it a day.
Same goes for the Tool tribute band Earshot. Damn them for making me think that their “Get Away” tune was some sort of import release to get excited about.
I’m pretty excited about the new Tool release, can’t wait.

The best band of any genre ever.

I respect your opinion. However, Chevelle does not have the right to even be mentioned in the same breath as the deftones.

I can’t compare Tool and A Perfect Circle - to me they’re totally different.
On another note, what’s ya’lls favorite Tool album?
they all rule!
If you’ve never heard Salival (live CD released with a DVD) it’s really good too. They do a cover of Zeppelin’s No Quarter that is INSANE as well as a softer version of Push It which rules.

Aenima was with me during a deployment to Thailand, Japan, Australia, Guam, Alaska, and Canada, basically the soundrack for the whole trip. So it holds a special place for me.
I think Aenima would be my favorite if it hadn’t been completely run into the ground by radio.
I guess I’d have to say Undertow, ultimately. It may not be as advanced musically as any of the others, but it was still completely innovative. Especially compared to what else was out at the time.
