New to taking test E

Hi all new to the site so ive just this week started taking test E 300mg split twice a week now my question is about food intake so ive spend the last 3 years dieting to get from 156kg down to now 96kg and around 6 months ago started going the gym compound lifting up till now im still on a calorie deficit at 2300kcal daily with 190g protien aim now I still have a little weight to loose I think but im being told I need to be in a calorie surplus in order to benefit from the test? Is this right or am I ok to carry on as I have been to cap off im 6ft 96kg and go gym 5 times a week for hour sessions compound lifting
