New to T-Nation, Needing some Solid Advice

Alright, going by the sticky, here’s my deal:

I’m 33 year-old male, 6’0", 230lbs. (not fat), am athletic and have been working out for over 9 years. I’m down right now after surgery due to “weightlifter’s shoulder”, but should be back up in a few weeks.

I have been lifting for quite awhile, and I bounce back and forth between lifting heavy and gaining weight to cardio and circuit training. My last cardio run I dropped down to 195lbs. and got burned out because I could not get the ripped look, no matter how much I maintained a strict diet (even no beer) and worked out. It seems I have too much subcutaneous fluid to get the ripped look. Now, I’ve never been interested in steroids/hormones for mass, but I would look into them for cut.

Is this a possibility? I mean, is there an answer?
