I remember years ago, I would hang with a couple of black dudes. While they listened to their LL cool j and other rappers, while i listened to ac/dc metalicca, black sabbath. Ummm, when was the last time you ever heard an ll cool j song being played or any of those “rappers” yet, go to any rock station, and all they play are ac/dc ozzy, black sabbath, metallica, and new rock like Avenged sevenfold, disturbed. hard rock will always outshine rap and hiphop. cause hard rock has true greatness and meaning, its not just some gutter ghetto crap. that crap dies fast. First, how exactly would you know what rap music is being played if you aren’t listening to it? Second, I hear Biggie and Pac every single day on our area’s most popular rap station, and I live in fucking Ohio. Lord knows if I were in south cali I’d probably find stations dedicated to 80’s/90’s rap chock full of wutang and old dre/snoop, puffy before he was a mogul, etc etc.

Just because you’re not listening for it doesn’t mean it’s out there.
Cause the dudes I hung around with listened to it all the time. played it all the time in their home. while respected their taste in music, i didn’t share their love of it.

It’s funny, i’ve heard the same thing said about rock n roll, then metal, and now rap…so, yeah… rap is the “new” rock and roll. Like it or not, rap is here to stay.

While i’m not a huge fan of rap/hip-hop, i’ve learned to appreciate it through the years.
My point was though, that rap in general is still around, abeit barely. When you look back at rappers from the 80s. how often is their music still played. but, go to any rock station, and you always hear rock from the 60s, 70s 80 on up. thats cause hard rock especially, lasts through the ages. hip hop is the same way. what was popular just a few years ago, you never hear it again. cause that type of music is about fluff. Yet, you listen to an old metallica song, and it blows you away. cause it has meaning. real meaning.
Just because YOU don’t hear it being played, that doesn’t meant that it’s the same everywhere.

Also, keep in mind that rock and roll has been around a hell of a lot longer than rap and hip hop has. Plus, radio is pretty much owned by Clear Channel and they will play whatever is popular to particular demigraphics. Mainstream radio is shit.

In the 80’s, the bands that you mentioned were NOT getting very much radio play when they were selling big, unless they were ballads. It took years before I was hearing Metallica (besides Fade To Black) on the radio. It was all pop-Metal and 70’s rock.

I loved the late 80’s, early 90’s rap and hip hop. It was fun and creative music.

oh ya, your 100% right. all of metallica’s old albums, kill em all, master of puppets, ride the lighting, and justice for all, they didn’t get any air play whatsoever. They still got huge though and were very popular even without any air play.

FUCK YES!

Please jesus let this shit drop already

I still hear the Beastie Boys, slick Rick, Kurtis Blow… etc getting quite a bit of airplay, still, on mainstream radio.

The bottom line is that music is so subjective that we can go back and forth forever and this is neither the time or the thread to discuss it. We’ve hijacked this thread more than enough.

I will say that for you state that Rap isn’t relavant, then you’ve been deaf in one ear since the 80’s.

This is the last tune that really caught my ear from T.I. and Mary J.

Mary J. makes everything better…

One more, the finished version of a song I posted earlier:

Great song, great soulful beat.

I appreciate this :).

And on a related note, here’s a more recent Mary J. Blige collab with a rapper:

I have nothing to add to this thread…I just wanted to stare at larry’s avi for a few minutes.

TM103 damn…is that something I can give my Pokemon?

TM103 = Pimpin’. “Pickachu pimped Eve. Lasts 5 turns”

It’s like there’s a Canadian Iron Dwarf…

While this kind of music is not my usual cup of tea, I just happened to come across this guy who is really talented. The stuff on his channel is definitely worth a look. My two favorites so far:

Common has his entire new album up on youtube as a preview for those who are interested.

Albums available for purchase on the 20th.

Can’t stop listening to this lately:

This is the Weeknd’s new tape, Echoes of Silence.

Just so GOOD.

Hey thought I might revive this thread to ask if anyone knows any bands similar to alexisonfire? I normally am not into that kind of music but they sound super awesome!

Or really if you have anything new, I would appreciate it cuz my iPod needs an update BIG TIME!

The new Anthrax CD came out the end of last year and I think it’s on of their best…
