It’s not a big deal, but I plan to add an assistance exercise to the the end of the strength layers after a few weeks. Obviously that’s prob not the best idea if the layered exercise is taking over an hour.
JMo_19 it does take me a little longer on the max strength layer for the reasons you stated.I’m at about 50-55 min. or so.The time is decreasing since i’m getting used to the set up etc.The original layer i can complete in about 40 min.
@jppage - cool, thanks. My time never seems to decrease even after doing the same setup for a few weeks. I’ll just have to make more of an effort to speed up the ramps going forward.
“7. Lower to 70% do ONE max reps set, (NOT extended sets)”
Whats the difference between a max-reps HDL set and extended-sets HDL set?
Newb question I know. Apologies for that, but I can’t remember or find it anywhere.

Extended Sets are 80% of main lift’s xRM for the day: then as many reps as possible → rest 15s → as many reps as possible → for 1-3 sets.
Example:
Bench Press 3RM = 100kg
Bench Press Ext Set 80% = 80kg
80kg x 6 reps → 15s rest → 4 reps
80kg x 6 reps → 15s rest → 3 reps
80kg x 5 reps → 15s rest → 3 reps
Max Reps HDL in the example you give from CT is just 1 set at 70% for as many reps as possible.

Thanx man, appreciate that ![]()
Been doing the 2rm for years…did this yesterday for sumo deadlifts…Yeesh that’s ALOT of deadlifts.
Push press today - I love the layer systems !
Years on the layer system? How is the physique, any injuries/burnout, rate of progress?
BTW checkout CT forums @ thib army, he’s finally rolling out his own ship…
