I trashed my camera yesterday. It was a Canon G5. Loved it and it was easy to use. Anyone have any suggestions as to a replacement?
Thanks!

Ive had a Canon 20D for a year now and love it. Its easy to use and the pucture quality is amazing though it is a little pricy. What is your price range?

Problem is I break everything. Spilled water on this one. I have an extended warranty on it but I need one for work by the end of the week. Mine is also getting old ( like almost three years ) so figured I could upgrade, fix this one and then have one nice one and one to knock around with…

Don’t I wish…Hi Mick!

We are considering a Nikon D70. It is a full body digital camera with interchangable lenses, and the picture quality is excellent. They run about $1K. For about $700 you can get a D50. Still a great camera, but not as full featured.
Of course, since you are loaded, you would want the D200. Professional level camera. Wow.
If you get a D200, get me one too. I’ll send you my address. ![]()

My father is both a professional photographer and an incredibly destructive person. He uses a bevy of equipment, some of it very high-end. However, on his hip he constantly carries a point and shoot camera no matter where he goes. Currently he has a Pentax camera (I think it is of the Optio line). It is waterproof and, really, quite resilient. This is his third or fourth point-and-shoot camera as he destroys them at regular intervals. It is incredibly durable and takes fantastic pictures. Also, I believe it is not too costly. I think you will not be disappointed. Good luck.
On a budget, the cannon PowerShot series is really nice. Great features and good pictures.

Your bling and you know it!!! ha!
Digital SLR’s kick ass. I am actually trying to sell my Nikon D50 so I can upgrade to a D70s. There’s nothing wrong with the D50, but the D70s has a couple of features I need that the D50 doesn’t … like DOF preview and the use of CompactFlash as opposed to Secure Digital.
The D200 is a great camera, but it’s around $2,000 with one of the basic lenses included. My D50 and a Wide Angle lens cost me $775 new on eBay. Nikon’s Coolpix cameras are also good if you want a P&S.
I will be upgrading to this bad boy:
Sony(alpha)DSLR-A100

How do you know how good a camera that is when it hasn’t been released yet?

If you want a nice one then you cant go wrong with the Canon 20D or the Nikon D70. The D70 has been out for a while now and is reasonably priced. You will have upgraded features with the 20D compared to the D70 but you will also pay for them.

Based on all my other Sony digital cameras.

How much to you want to spend? You can get a very decent point-and-shoot type camera in the $300-$350 range, whereas the more professional models are $700-$1000.
I like my Sony for point-and-shoot – it’s a couple years old, but takes great pics. The Canon mentioned above is supposed to be very good too.
At the upper end, the Canon and Olympus models are nice – I believe the digital version of the Canon Rebel comes with a couple lenses - my friend has a relatively new one and loves it.
I was unaware that you took photos.
I second the powershot recommendation. The cheap (sub $500) ones still have great image quality and are durable. Plus, they are so easy to use that even a woman could figure it out.

Nikon D50 is the best bang for the buck. Only thing I don’t like is I would get a metal bodied camera next time as I am hard on them.
If you can get one that your lenses will fit on it will save you some bucks.

JOG you never cease to make me laugh. I know I’m kind of shy in front of the camera.
Good news and bad news. Good news…after my camera dried out it decided to work again. Bad news is I now want a new camera!!
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I forgot to mention I want on that my speedlight will work with as well. I’d love to take some classes soon so I can really learn how to take some great photos!
