What’s everyone’s stance on Neautering or Spaying your dogs, are you for or against it? I was thinking with all the praise for Test many would be against it.
Also what foods does everyone feed their dog? Are you feeding quality foods like Canidae, Innova, Wellness, Pinnacle, Solid Gold, Natural Balance?
Just want to want to everyone’s stance on man’s best friend.
I am for neutering, but against spaying generally, unless you think your dog is in a position to be impregnated. The majority of the benefits behaviorally is with regards to neutering, not spaying. The health benefits are pretty significant, but from what I’ve heard from vets it’s a bigger benefit for males.
I feed my 6 month old Mini Australian Shepherd Eukanuba, which is essentially Iams. I haven’t decided what I’m going to switch her to in a couple of months.

Have you ever had a bitch that came into season? Not fun.
Aside from the spotting (there’s a reason they make sanitary napkins for female dogs), you’ll make the acquaintance of every unaltered male dog in a 20 mile radius (ok, I’m exaggerating a little, but not much) and you’ll find your normally well behaved female will turn into houdini to get herself out the door and on the town. And, sooner or later, someone isn’t going to be fast enough getting in or out of the door. And then you’ll have the miracle of birth and the joy of a litter of squirming puppies. That part is fun, although they wake up ungodly early in the mornings and when they’re awake, you’re awake. But, then you either have to find homes for them, or make other arrangements.
From the dog’s health point of view, there are pluses and minuses to spaying or neutering, but, for dogs that aren’t kept locked in kennels, it’s pretty much the only way to prevent unwanted litters.

I’m for vasectomy, although some vets won’t do that proceedure.
Never had a female dog but I’d have her spayed for sure.
i just got my pit chopped, poor bastard. he is wearing this big funnel on his head for the next 10 days. up next is the female but she is in heat still after 2+ months. my pit has already sired a litter of puppies(see my “puppies are here” post, so i figured his legacy has been secured. i am keeping one of his litter, he will be next up to bat as soon as he is ready and i find a nice bitch for him.

By the way… virtually all popular brands of pet food are really bad nutritionally… they’re little more than cornmeal and cheap animal byproducts
This is true. Although it costs more I’ve been buying much better quality food for my dog. When you actually sit and read the labels and not the front of the bag you’ll be suprised by what you find.
