Net Neutrality?

Here’s another chapter

Right out of the play-book, just like Saul Alinsky wrote it.

John McCain has introduced a bill to stop it.

“Solution” in search of a problem.

Here we go again or still. Once the people go to sleep and a government starts to grow it becomes a self perpetuating juggernaut of control and intrusion. One thing that’s working miraculously well considering what it is and does and they just cannot keep their hands off of it.

This video cant possibly be true, Glenn Beck is in it and it was on Fox. On a serious note, do you think people are starting to figure out what socialism/statism is?

Net neutrality is a joke. I work in the industry and service providers are really getting the shaft on this one. So will consumers. They invest in infrastructure and the gov’t tells them they have to share with everyone. Just a couple of examples.

They have to give VoIP competitors access to their customers for free. If you want to compete for voice services over the traditional TDM network and you don’t own the facilities, you have to lease them. Competitive carriers do this all the time when competing with Qwest, Windstream, Centurylink, or any of the other big carriers. Why is VoIP any different?

When you rent a movie from Netflix or any other subscription-based service, the post office or Fedex get paid to send it to you. If you want to download it, the provider that owns the network cannot demand the same payment.

So instead of charging users and companies that use their networks the most, they will be become a dumb pipe. Any revenue lost to those that compete on their networks for free or those that that use it the most, will be recovered in the form of higher base rates for all of us.

What exactly are they solving here?

Problems that don’t exist yet that they think exist in the world of cell phones but really only occured when government stepped its big ass foot into the phone sector.

Most have no idea how inefficient the telecom sector has become becuase of the fed and state intervension. Think aggriculture and the farm bill.

For many providers, revenue does not come from selling services to customers. For these providers much comes from gov’t mandated payments by LD carriers, and pools of money established by the fed. This has created insane business models that are drivin by call volume and expenditures that would not otherwise be wise. Add subsidized loans by the RUS, and you have one interesting industry.

Most of the equipment I sell is purchased with gov’t loans, and/or payments from the NECA pool. This can be hard to square with my libertarian conscience.

This policy needs a good makeover. They should call it:

Super Net Neutrality

or

The Ultimate Super Epic – We Mean Business – Net Neutrality!

Now I feel the fairness starting to spread.

Kind of like the fairness doctrine. Now that was clever naming.

Or the employee free choice act.

They don’t even try and cleverly disguise their shit programs any more. After passing TARP amongst so much outrage, and not seeing any consequences, they must just figure we will take what they give us and like it. It’s our own fault.

The average person already had a rough idea what it was. Those with no clue are more likely to be found in academia and are burying their hand in the sand further by becoming increasingly angry when questioned as to the supposed infallibility of socialism.
