Net Books vs Laptops

Well I’ve been thinking about getting one of these for a while and this has pretty much set me on doing it. Right now im using a year old HP laptop 17", upgraded to 4gigs of ram and the battery life is roughly 46 minutes, and all of an hour and a half in power saver.

Anyone have one with the larger battery cell? How long does that one last?
The seashell asus Eee pc with the non removable battery can get up to 9 hours in power saver mode… my friend had one on our flight to Vegas, we watched movies the whole flight (6 hours) and it still had almost 3 hours of charge left…

I’m waiting for this game changer from Apple:

Rumor: Apple May Be Working on XL Tablets Running Full Mac OS X
I will never understand peoples fascination with apple… the only thing they truely do better then anyone else is smart phones and music players… and that is debatable at times…

I’ll stick with my PC’s… though the apple tablet may get my money since they tend to do stuff like that better then the compitetors on day one… However, you should check out the plastic screened tablet, i forget who is making that one (in motion, or plastic solutions, or something like that) it doesnt have a glass screen on the front and is therefore a lot lot lot more durable then the other e-readers… If they can keep the cost under 400 bucks I will be buying one of these for class and research the day they come out…

As an owner of both a Netbook and a Laptop - both for work purposes - I would deffinately recommend a Netbook. I have the ASUS eeepc HP which has a 10 Hour battery life. The only downside is a smaller screen ( which goes with the territory ) for all the Porn Surfing.

Netbooks are for idiots who try and plug random cables into random holes, trying to get lucky. If you see your neighbors dogs growling and it has it’s tail between it’s legs, chances are your neighbor just got a netbook.

-this post post makes no sense

plus: ultra portability
minus: some have small keyboard, small screen, less power than most laptops

your not going to do major gaming or graphics design on a netbook, but they certainly can be extremely useful and nice replacement for a laptop. They can do just about everything a laptop can do but on a smaller scale. Most will have an external vga port and multiple usb ports so you can connect an external full size monitor, keyboard, mouse and use it at times as a desktop.

check out these links:

The key would be to test the ergonomics of anything you are thinking about to see if you like the feel of the keyboard, display, movement of the screen etc.But they are great devices and can be very usefull.

Any reason you felt it neccessary to qualify yourself to me with your “in the field for 20 years” comment?

Nice e-peen brah.
yes, to note that I have some experience with computers, lans, and wans. It was early, I got into work with a server down, started the day in a bad mood, and your blanket statement about
netbooks pissed me off.

I have used Netbooks in the past but found them to tire the hell out of my eyes after a couple of hours. Recently bought the 13’’ Macbook Pro - and wohooo! light, portable, fast (and thanks to the aluminium case quite sturdy while still stylish) - definitfly worth the price.

So 13’’ Laptop > Netbook in terms of usabilliy for serious work, while being as portable.

yes, those are pretty sweet. But when I can pick up 2 HP business laptops with a 3 year warranty
for the price of 1 macbook, it is hard to justify the purchase (in the current economic limate). I hate to admit that I really like a lot of the apple products, but they are always a little over priced in my opinion.

How can you honestly compare a 1k+ macbook pro to a 300 dollar laptop… I guess I just “get” it when it comes to the macbook… people now a days are too hung up with all the “Extras” that you get with an expensive laptop, or the pretty white color of macs… but, if all your doing is microsoft office, web surfing, not taking, and light duty gaming… what does a laptop offer that a netbook at 300 dollars doesnt??

Unless you really do something that requires a lot of computing, or just can not stand the smaller screen (I’ll admit youll either love or hate the smaller screen) I just dont see how you can justify a laptop over a netbook…

My bro has an eeepc which im on atm, it works fine for almost anything…other than gaming which can be blah.
