NeilG’s big problem was that he was say things and not listen when people gave him feedback, or constructively pointed him to the search engine. That said, I don’t know why he’s kicked off. People could just ignore him, prefacing their posts with “<ignoring NeilG’s contribution to thread>”
It’s been said that saturated fat is not bad per se. It may be associated with certain cancers but that is inconclusive. But too much saturated fat in a diet leads to insulin resistance, and this will mess up your attempts to get big, cut down, or just stay healthy. Furthermore, bodybuilding nutrition gurus have had success getting people lean and big with unsaturated fat sources (and favoring Omega-3 over Omega-6 polyunsaturates).
Polyunsaturates also may be burned preferentially. This has some advantages over saturated sources for body composition.
Thats true but isnt all that sort of assuming ur eating quite a bit of carbs?
In the abcense of carbs and consuming less kcal than ur using, are those arguments realy holding?
I mean keto diets have had peaople eating massive amounts of saturated fats to loose weight and as stated even on this site it didnt make the subjects any less healthy, quite the oposite infact.
Suplementing with healthy fats to get them stored in the adipose tissue and doing their magic is ofcourse great.
But realy when you have to consume rather large amounts of fat each day then why not eat bacon, chicken with the skin on etc seems a tad strange.
If there is a study on insulin sensitivity beeing diminished by saturated fats while on neg energy balance and on lowcarb then id love to see it ofcourse.
Not saying you should have bacon for alla ur P+F meals but why fear it?
I think that John Berardi takes the most balanced approach to the whole thing. When bulking, try to get about 33% of fat intake from saturates, 33% from mono-saturates, and 33% from poly-unsaturates. When cutting, try to stay away from saturated fat–I’m not exactly certain why one ought to change the ratio whilst cutting, perhaps I could be enlightened, perhaps it has something to do with metabolism or insulin sensitivity. Just take a loot at Fat Roundtable Part I again, it has a lot of good information backed up with pretty charts.
The problem with NeilG was never his ideas about diet, although most people did disagree with him. It was the fact that he was childish, stupid, and had zero social skills. And he’d hijack every thread and turn it to shit.
Oh, and for those recommending the Fat Roundtable for further reading, remember, there were two of them:

Do you guys know how long it took me to type out those ascii graphics

What do you all think Neil’s life expectancy will be if he maintains his current personality? Can they do personality transplants yet, or should we just let him die? I say it’d be a marvelous addition to the statistics table.
Ahhh, was a while since i read those two articles, btw its the no 2 that deals with diffrent types of fats and no 1 mainly talks about meal compositions.
Was nice, thanks to p-dog for getting me to reread them.
It still dosent seem to be totaly against saturated fats.
Sure limit it and supplement with the good stuff but assuming ur on a high fat diet and have to eat around 200g of fat each day then fatty meats shouldnt be a problem.
I think there just happens to be to much of a coincidence - NEILG, G as in Grahn, he joined today Aug. 17 shortly after the reader mail went up, and he’s posted 5 of 9 messages in the NEILG forum alone. All coincidence? I don’t think so. So NEILG - a.k.a Grahn just fess up and start fresh, by not being so confrentational.
He’s brainwashed by the field of alternative nutrition (not that it’s totally bad) and doesnt know how to incorporate research into some of his beliefs. He just needs to get some life experience,… and some manners.
Alright, the kids kind of a D-bag, but he’s still young so hopefully he’ll figure out that it’s not everyone else that wrong. Some people are like that and hopefully they are smart enough to realize that in order to get along in life you have to accept/learn from your mistakes.
grahn, i am not hostile by any means. the problem i have is that you who joined t-mag today (quite coincidentally i might add) is commenting on something you dont know anything about. i have not said anything in regards to fats and what types to eat. if you read neil’s posts (as if you weren’t the one who posted them) you would se that his theories on fat were quite ludicrous. so please go back and read some of his threads or threads that he hijacked and get back to us.
p-dog: I could do that, you could also stop implying that im him, it was funny the first time now its just getting annoying.
Feel free to have some mod check my ip and compare it, pretty sure im a quarter of the globe away from his location.
But frankly i dont care about what he said, the question wasnt about him or you guys ridiculing him.
The question was posted here cause it seemed relevant.
I just think people bash saturated fats a bit too much.
But feel free to form more conpiracy theories about who i am.
Grahn doesn’t seem to me to be NeilG. Way more balanced comments, and he suspends judgement. Grahn, you might want to look at Will Brink’s writings on flax oil when cutting lower carb. He’s the big proponent. Also something to think about: Flax oil increases metabolic rate, saturated fat does not, and since the body holds onto essential fatty acids, by supplementing with predominantly O-3 flax, you may preferentially lose o-6 and saturated stores.
Grahn, I apologize if you are not NEILG, but you gotta admit there sure is allot of coincidence. Anyway welcome to T-mag. Besides I really didn’t mind NEILG…he was just a little uninformed. That PM he sent though was out of line.
