Need Help w/ Labs - Mainly for High Progesterone

Hi all, I got some bloodwork done and was surprised to see my test as high as it is - mainly because I’ve been experiencing ED, low libido, and problems gaining muscle.

I turned 36 recently and lift/BJJ/some kind of outdoor activity just about everyday. I run a 5/3/1 program and mix in kettlebells a lot. I sleep 7-8 hours per night. I’m not on TRT. Daily I take tongkat ali, a multivitamin, vitamin D, 150 mg allopurinol.

Regarding the progesterone, I’ve seen that B6 lowers it. I’ve also read that it can mimic symptoms of low T and high estrogen.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Not so fast, incomplete testing. No Free T values. The Free T is where the rubber meets the road.

Search the forums and you’ll find dozens of men with high SHBG, high Total T and low Free T. As men age, the Total T, SHBG increase while the Free T decreases and for some this process is accelerated due to environmental, genes and or lifestyle choices.

Address your progesterone before considering other hormones.

Total Testosterone is meaningless when it comes to diagnosing hypogonadism. If your SHBG is high enough, your Free Testosterone (what matters when it comes to getting the benefits of T) could easily be completely crashed.

Get Free Testosterone tested asap.

About the Progesterone I’m not sure. There’s research showing that allopurinol actually decreases plasma Testosterone, DHEA, 17-hydroxy-progesterone and estrogens through inhibition of LH. 17-hydroxy-progesterone isn’t the same as Progesterone but I’m not sure about the relationship, I’d recommend reading more about it: [The effect of allopurinol on testosterone metabolism] - PubMed

Your Progesterone value is so ridiculously outside of the normal range at over 50 times the top of the range, I would retest it just in case.

That’s what I’m trying to do…

Thanks for the response - think I need to schedule a follow-up with more complete testing.

Thanks for the insight and additional reading!

When I last had my labs done my total T was around 350 but at that time my fitness wasn’t dialed in and was overweight.

And yea, the progesterone value seemed so out of whack that I figured it must be an error, but further reading on it led me to believe it could be the issue given the aforementioned symptoms and relation to that.
