First full day of spring started at 5:30 am with a -1 Celcius. Mostly clear skies and a promise of +9 Celcius. I managed to finish up work a little early. Got home and made up a 1500 cal smoothie and drank the liter and a half in about ten minutes. Stretched, showered, changed, grabbed my gear and headed out.
Just a beautiful day, lots of roller bladers out and about. Not to much in the cycling department however. It was so great to be outside skating in the sun. Did a 50km skate with some sprint work, I like that. My legs are exhausted. I can’t wait till tomorrow, leg workout in the morning and a skate in the afternoon.
I will be doing a lot of eating tonight. This just keeps getting better and better. Gym doesn’t open till 9am so I can sleep in as well. It’s like Xmas and my birthday all in one. It’s going to be an awesome day tomorrow. I’m going to work hard and play even harder! Staying strong for all the right reasons!
Thanks guys. The weather system changed over night. The sunshine was out the door and the clouds look like rain. I decided to put off the gym for an early skate. It was +4 Celcius with a wind blowing from the SE.
Did a solid 45km. I was on the hunt for cyclists but drew a big fat zero. My legs were tired from yesterday so I’m not sure what I would have done if I’d found some. I guess I’ll never know.
At least I’m over the 1000km mark for the winter training. I need the sunshine now to recharge my energy level. I don’t want to wait, I want sunny days and hot temps right now. I’m totally sick of being cold. Enough is enough already. Staying strong because sunny days are coming, I promise!

Are there any skating races you compete in?? Great workouts!!
Closest would be Vancouver or Seattle and then only a couple. Really big in Europe and getting big in Florida and other East coast cities. The cost of getting off and on the Island is over a hundred dollars with a vehicle. So it can get expensive really fast. My race isn’t with other skaters however, but with the clock.
I’m hoping my exposing this sport will attract local interest, then maybe a skate club. Time will tell. I must admit it would be a lot of fun having others to compete against.

March Skate Log: 320km Skate Log: 1017km
Cyclists just aren’t that crazy, I guess. Nice work!
Taking a couple weeks off. Need to heal up some. I’m starting to feel little aches and pains in the legs and ankles. I did a 25km skate today. Mostly because the sun was out and I need some Vitamin D. Plus I want to keep the legs loose. It was just a short and very enjoyable skate. Staying strong requires healing.
The March Blues. I suffer this infliction every year. I have always been into outdoor sports of one form or another. For years I had a gym in my open carport, I loved those open air workouts. All this makes the unstable weather conditions of March extremely difficult to deal with. My geographic location allows for weather patterns to change in very short periods of time. All that added to the already unstable and unpredictable March weather.
Most of it I bring on myself. I can’t help it however, I get very excited about spring, the warmth of the sun and the long sunny days. I catch myself staring outside for longer periods of time. Hoping that will help change the weather in my favor. I am so happy March is almost over.
At least one more skate this month. Sunday is the most likely day, the only sunny one. I will make my quota for the month and raise next months quota to 600km. It will be light till eight o’clock. This makes it so much easier to get a skate in every night. I’m doing it to myself again.
I know what you mean about the weather Stream. We’ve been teased with some 50’s and even some 60s recently, and tomorrow we’re supposed to get a snow storm, that sucks!
You’re workouts are astonishing as usually. Hang in there, it will get better.
Thanks for the words of encouragement DZ. It’s always a pleasure hearing from you. Sorry to hear you’re going to get another kick from winter.
I was just looking out the window at a very bleck looking day. Still dry but only 5 degree celcius, which it’s going to be all day. If it’s still dry this afternoon I may give it a go. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny but there’s a chance of 50-70km winds. That would be like skating on a treadmill.
That would be to funny. Like the time I was sailing with a wind the same strength as the tide. As long as you didn’t look at the shore you were just given it.
If today is any indication to how the summer is going to be, happy times are on the way. It was 9 degrees Celcius with a couple of clouds floating around, mainly to annoy me!
The time off sure showed. Once I got on the trail I realized there were no stiff and sore muscles. No tight muscles on the verge of being pulled. I started strong and finished the same way.
Lot of traffic on the trail. Everyone was out trying to enjoy some much needed sunshine. I got in some great chases and held a solid pace from start to finish. It’s amazing how huge a difference a sunny warm day can make. It made the 60km skate an extremely enjoyable one. The next week is calling for rain everyday. I will need to be ready everyday if I plan on making my monthly quota.

The rest is refreshing you it seems. That might kick off a new strength and growth cycle. That skate log blows me away.Nice work stream.
Thanks JimmyT, that skate log is going to be huge. I am planning on going for 1600km or 1000 miles in August. That is the month with the least amount of rain. I’ll be skating 3-4 hours or 60-80km a night. Miles of smiles!
I’m feeling great. Looking forward to next monday and getting back to the gym. I should have stored up enough energy to set a great tempo for my spring leg training. It’s all explosive work and high reps now. It’s time for speed!
I’m ordering my new wheels and ceramic bearing this weekend. Should get them in a week or so. That is going to make a huge difference in my speed. My present wheels are worn almost to the hubs. Staying strong!

Why do I always picture you smiling while skating or in the gym?
I think your log makes me smile.
When doing the things you love to do, you can’t help but smile.
ceramic bearings, sounds expensive,
I have like these mini bearings in my five wheels-
and I am in need new wheels too.

Ceramic bearing @ $6.00 each X 16 (20 for you), but they’re faster and longer lasting. They will remain cool for greater periods of time. This is great on long skates, which all of mine are now. The advantages now outweigh the cost.
The weather is absolutely the shits. It’s like friggin winter out there, cold, wet and grey. It’s been pouring rain for two days now. Big change in the weather is coming this weekend, 15 degrees Celcius. That’s going to feel really hot, YES!
