Today we broke the fifty mile stone. It was going to happen and there was nothing I could do about it. Yes I turned 51 year young today, where is no turning back now. We’re headed for 60 and there’s no looking back, cause everything good is up ahead.
Just blasing a trail for all you others lagging behind.[/quote]
Is that in KPH or MPH?
Years, I’m hitting 53 this year, so all I can say is welcome this way! ![]()
Congrats on your birthday.
Happy B’day streamline!
Thanks guys. It may sound weird but I look forward to aging. I’m in no hurry, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that we’re in an era where the laws of aging are about to be rewritten. All of us here have decided to fight back.
We are the generation that will re-set the bar, in a big way. We all have our aged heros. Those mentors that blazed the trail and showed us the way. They showed us it could be done. It’s now our turn to show them how well we can do it.
Setting the bar for those to come. I plan on setting that bar real high. Then, when I see someone better me. I’ll know with absolute certainty. They had to work their ass off to get there. Then I’ll smilie to myself and have a little chuckle. Full circle.
Happy birthday. Making use 50 year olds look good.
I got a guy who lifts at my gym who used to race competitively. Says he was once ranked 30th in the nation several years ago. His name is Donavan Conley. Said his top speed was around 35 mph. I wonder if you know him? And Happy Birthday too.

No, I don’t know any skaters. Would be interesting if there were some speed bladers around here. That is a decent speed for a sprint, I don’t think it’s sustainable for much distance however. The one hour world record is 36.120 kph, held by Claus Hechmann. That is the record I wish to break.
Thanks guys. Time to start working on the next one.
Had one of those strange workouts. The one where you feel great but can’t do shit. I felt great all day. I was looking forward to skating after work. The skate was okay but I simply couldn’t find anything special in the tank.
Didn’t skate yesterday (thanks to my dickhead boss) so the legs shouldn’t have been tired. I have three days off and the sun will be shining. I see some fun in my future. I think I’ll do some carbo loading tonight (shove food in my face), I’m so hard done by.
Staying strong, having fun, looking great and living long, that should cover it.
I am new, at least posting here. I have been buying the Biotest products for years. Most of your workout is new to me, however, you cannot argue with the results

One can only hope the means will produce the desired results.
So is it lifting and music or music and lifting.

Lifting is for health and the music is for the soul
Sizing them in a glance. That’s what it’s come down to, one look. I see a cyclist and get close enough for a good look at their bike. One scan of the bike and I have 85% of the info I need.
Their gear ratio, the gear they are using verse their cadance or the gear they are in when they stop. I know guickly who I’m dealing with. I have become very selective where I expend my energy.
I remember when I first caught a cyclist and enjoyed the sensation of drafting. That was several years back. We have come a long way in a short period of time. This is a direct result of a life time of strength and conditioning. Now I pass everything but experienced roadbike cyclists. As the season comes to it’s conclusion. I find my level of conditioning once again vastly improved on.
With the winter training I am designing. I will be mixing it with the upper category cyclists next year. The Pro’s are still only a dream, but I make my dreams come true.
I had such an awesome time today. Low traffic on the trail, which is enjoyable. Worked on the “Double Push” on and off for the two hours we were out. I think I will have this down pretty good within a month or two. By next spring it will be second nature.
I am stoked about my winter workout plan. Skating will continue to dominate my workouts until the weather and/or the light of day suggests otherwise. Then the training will commence.
Legs twice a week, one for stregth and endurance, one for power and explosion. At least two skates a week, one on the hills, yes I have two hills picked out. One short steep grade and one long mid grade. Both are a warm up and cool down away from home. Two paced skates, with a paid cyclist, twice a month. The rest we will fill in with upper body and core work, and of course cardio. But that’s a whole different story! I can’t believe I’m looking forward to this, maybe I am fucked up in the head. Shit don’t tell Mother was right again!

Why does anyone object to you drafting? Am I missing something, besides the fact that I finally gave in and started using the upper tire pressure on my mixed use bike (feels like I’m going down hill both ways on the trail now, even if it isn’t as soft).

Sorry I can’t answer that one with any accuracy. One possibility would be Ego. I really don’t care thou, it’s all good.
There are so many cyclists that don’t, can’t or won’t use their gear efficiently. I love when they stop without gearing down. Makes it difficult for them to sprint off on me. However, if they don’t gear properly I usually find little use for them.
The shocks on mountain bikes give the cyclist the ability to go much faster. It allows for higher air pressure in the tires as the shocks will absorb the constant impact. Fast after all is much more fun.

Never to late to learn a new technique. I will be spenting a huge part of the winter mastering this “Double Push”. Gave it a try today. This will reguire a lot of training. I think the best way to discribe it would be, learning to skate with only one leg.
You need to do a curved zig-zag on one skate. I was kind of getting it at higher speeds. Only to realize this will either take specific training or time. I do believe as my speed increased to a higher level. My skating would evolve into this style.
Seems to be the next natural step. It is real quite interesting. I’m thinking that once one masters this style. They will be able to generate purpulsion though the whipping action.
The way I see it, I have the winter to increase the size and power of my legs. Bring them to a higher degree of explosiveness. Master this “Double Push” and skate every day possible. Do that and I will start next season in the mid+ 30kmh range.
Every day I skate, I thank the powers that be for this amazing opportunity. Health, fitness, sport and the passion to succeed at it. I take nothing for granted and try to live my life to its fullest everyday. I have such a simple and yet totally amazing life. I real enjoy being me!!

I need to make a correction to this previous post. After my skate today. I can easily say. I will own this new technique by months end. So exactly what has happened in the last seven day, that makes this possible.
After yesterdays skate, where I was able to spend significant time practising. I had a vivid impression of the technique in my head. Well it stayed there into the wee hours of the morning. Over and over it went through my mind. I laided in bed meditating through the motions.
I got to the point where I could feel the motion. I could see my shoulder drop and roll. Each movement followed by the skate going into the “Double Push”. The same side shoulder takes me out of one push and into another.
Then the opposite shoulder takes me out and into the next push. I could visualize the motions and feel the smoothness of the gliding wheels as they played in rythumn with my shoulders and arms.
Today I worked the “Double Push” all day. It was awesome and it worked the glute muscles right up to there top. The burn in the glutes slowly became burning amber.
With each solid stroke giving the sensation of blowing on those ambers. I don’t get that sensation very often so I was totally enjoying the moment. Maybe intensifying it as much as possible as well.
I really should stop under estimating myself. Staying strong and loving life!
I couldn’t be happier. The double push is dominating my skating. That’s all I do now and what a surprise. Although it shouldn’t be.
Double push also means double the work, My legs are feeling these skates. Doing an extra half lap at twice the leg work. I can feel my legs stressing. That equals stronger legs. The lungs are fine, fact they’re under used at the moment.
Given all the new revolations. Everything has changed. I am now seeing a different future. My increase in speed between now and spring start. Is going to be unbelieveable.
When I spoke of owning this “Double Push” technique. I referred to incorporating it totally into my skating. This I have now done. Giving me this winter to master it and increase my physical prowess significantly. It’s going to be a long winter.
I’m going to really enjoy myself all winter. Not as much next spring and summer thou.

Sounds interesting, I’d never heard of double push before.
Now I find it has its own wiki entry Double push - Wikipedia
and some nice video Speed Skating & Double Push For Beginners Step 1
That was interesting.
Faster is so much more fun. I am going faster, how much I’m not concerned with at the moment. It’s amazing to see such a major difference in such a short period of time.
I spotted a speed test at last traffic light on the course. A cyclist that came to a stop in his highest gear. There was no way he could sprint off on me. The first kilomter is a steady up grade.
I gave him about thirty feet and held him in check. He wasn’t able to gain any ground on the climb. This made him mine. I could have closed the gap earlier but waited for the down grade.
I got down low and poured it on. Pushing the new technique as hard as I could. I was working both pushes, throughing my hips and shoulders into it. Never saw him again.
I love how much I can put into this “Double Push”. My legs start burning about fifteen minutes into the workout. It’s such an inspiring feeling. Knowing your hard work is making you better. Can’t wait till tomorrow! Staying strong for selfish reasons and loving it.
I didn’t read though your entire thread but if you want to get faster/more explosive I would recommend adding olympic lifts and sprint intervals (10x40yds full rest between sprints).
