NBA Season 2013-2014

I dont hate the trade as a Cavs fan. Bynum was gone either way, and atleast they have something to show for it. Those draft picks are worthless, and there was 0% chance dan gilbert was going to allow the team to tank this season AGAIN. The Cavs have a small forward now, and it will be good for the team to have a legit vet. in the locker room.

Whose going to sign Bynum once he’s waived?

miami, he’ll match up with hibbert in the east finals.

I don’t know how the waiver system works in the NBA, is he just a free agent that can sign to whoever he wants(probably Miami or LAC), or does he go through a waiver wire process and could get picked up by some of the lower end contenders hoping to improve their chances like say, Dallas, Toronto, teams like that.

Best Shot Melo took all season.

Amirite?

Talk about being melodramatic…

melo will never win anything until he joins up with another superstar or 3, and leaves the nyk

Melo will never win anywhere he goes, the Knicks will only be a franchise on the uptick when he leaves…Oh how I pray that they trade him this year.

x2…yeah he averages 26.3 PPG this season (4th highest in the league) but he also a 55 True Shooting Percentage (combines 3 pt, 2 pt, and FT) which is not even in the top 20 in the league. For reference Lebron has a 69 TS% and Durant has a 63 TS%. Obviously Melo needs to take a ton of shots to keep up with the big dogs scoring wise. If he teams up with a 2 or 3 superstars his shots will decrease and his PPG will plummet.

Raptors: Third best team in the East

Agree or Disagree?

Still got the Hawks at no.3 in the East. Even with Horford out for the reason they’re still a young energetic team with a motivated first-year coach (former assistant coach with the Spurs so he’s learned from the best in Popovich).

Pero Antic, Horford replacement in the middle, is bigger and although he’s not as quick and as good of a rebounder, can shoot from 3. Jeff Teague role is more important than ever. If he can continue to play aggressively and maintain some sort of consistency I think they’ll hold on to that 3rd spot in the East. That’s ceteris paribus in the East of course, a few teams are beginning to “wake up” like the Brooklyn Nets, and because the East is so weak, spots 3-8 will probably constantly be changing until the playoffs.

As a matter of fact, I think the entire league is really competitive this year. There’s no one team you can say is a definitive favorite. You can’t say that for Miami anymore because Indiana has emerged, and no one is really sold on the Thunder yet, especially with them barely hanging on to that 1 and 2 spot.

Mid point of the season creeping up fast, who’s your current favourites for the following awards?

  • MVP
  • 1st Team All NBA
  • ROY
  • 6th Man
  • Defensive Player
  • Most Improved

1st team requires more thought than I want to give or have already given watching games so far, I’ll do the rest though:

MVP: Durant. What he is doing with Westbrook out is ridiculous. Maybe LBJ and the Heat kick into that late season gear they have and he takes another trophy, but so far I see him behind by a decent amount.

ROY: Gotta be MCW right? Burke has been coming on lately, and I really like that Drummond kid, but MCW has been ballin all season.

6th man: Battle between the Crawford’s for me(Jordan and Jamal, GSW and LAC respectively). Jamal has the better scoring, Jordan pulling down more boards and dishing out assists. I could be swayed either way honestly, scoring probably wins the voters though?

DPOY: Hibbert right? Other dudes maybe have some comparable stats but he’s the anchor on the best defensive team in the league(by a ton), so he gets my nod.

Improved: I have a couple guys in mind here, this would be the hardest of the categories for me. Does George’s improvement count even if it basically happened in the playoffs? If not I guess it’s him, but otherwise I dunno, some dudes have seriously stepped up their game this season, like Curry becoming a much better all-around guard running that GSW offense.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of Durant even though I respect his talent and productivity. He’s playing the best in the league right now but he’s not a star-star like LeBron, Kobe or MJ entertainment-wise. The guy is so good at scoring it’s boring. And he has no charisma, on or off the court.

LeBron has been making comments recently that he’s envious and inspired by Durant’s current run. That kind of public expressed sentiment right there makes me think LeBron ISN’t scared of Durant and doesn’t see him as a legitimate threat. He’s friends with him, respects him but doesn’t see him as ‘competition’, from a business and image stand-point off the court and competitively on the court. I don’t remember reading any headlines the last decade with LeBron or Kobe talking how they’re “inspired” or “jealous” about one another. They viewed each other as legitimate threats, both in terms of who individually and who’s team runs the league.

I think KD is locking up that first half MVP. LeBron has actually had a really nice streak of games as well but the Heat are falling short(against more teams they should be beating, they are the definition of playing to your competition). Wade getting tons of games off, no longer just the same pattern of 1st game in a back-to-back pair, really hurting them.

Durant basically has to put up big numbers with Westbrook out for the Thunder to win games. I hope he doesn’t wear himself out by the post-season. I don’t think the league has seen a guy average 30+ppg the regular season and win a championship since Jordan. Don’t remember Kobe ever doing it, and 'Bron has been under that 30ppg season threshold for his championship runs.

Durant is ridiculous right now. I wish I could watch all the Thunder games.

Durant?

Pffft have you guys seen Kyle Lowry?
