One of the reasons his parents were upset at the time. I played with his father Joe near the end of his European (italy) career.
Cool man, I play pickup ball with Barry (Obama) down the street too.
I played ball with Tyrese Gibson (fast and the furious 2) one time… he was short and not very good lol

I’ve played ball with a ton of NBA cats, but off the top of my head the only actor I’ve played with is the black guy from the show “Leverage”. Best way I can describe his hoopin’ skills is “Really nice guy”. He was in fact cool as shit though.

Sorry if I don’t believe internet claims of being personal friends with Kobe’s parents. You understand I’m sure.

I agree… Goes back to one of the biggest reasons for the lockout, small market/bad teams wanting to be able to compete.

A deal is set in place which sends CP3 to a historically good team that wins a lot? Squashed by Stern.

A deal is set in place which sends CP3 to a historically bad team that looses a lot but has an up and coming star? Approved by Stern.
Also, despite the fact that we just had a lockout because small market teams want to be competitive… Stern squashed a deal for them that would make them playoff competitors this year (lots of depth of decently good players) and turned them into a lottery-bound team with one promising player.

Basically he admitted that it can be in the long-term best interest of the team to be bad for a year. Which I thought was the opposite point of the whole lockout.
Odom/Kmart/Scola is not a playoff team imo, but for the sake of discussion a 7th or 8th seed does not make a team ‘competitive’ in my mind. There is a pretty big gap in the NBA between the elite franchises and the next tier of teams.

Hamstringing yourself with big veteran contracts just to maybe make the playoffs for a season when you could trade Paul for young talent and picks is just dumb.

Can you guys atleast agree that they got a better deal from the Clippers than what LA/Houston was offering?

Yes they did… that doesn’t mean that the NBA owning a team is right though. IMO this is a case where the ends did not justify the means.

Sorry if you’re an asshole. But it IS the internet.

Joe played on my summer pro league team for two years (Baker League, “Dr. Foot” team).

I did not state we were personal friends. We were teammates.

Are you a frustrated never-been? I forgot this is the site dedicated to being the best at “working out”. Are you at least the best at working out? One of the best maybe?

I make no such claims. I just think you make up a lot of unverifiable stuff. Frankly I don’t really care whether most of it is true or not, hence me not blowing up every thread with OMG POIDH etc.

And with that I’m done talking about non-basketball stuff in this thread. Yes I did start it, but have no interest in continuing it.

So who do y’all think is going to take the Memphis leap forward this year? I like the Pacers moves but don’t think they are serious contenders. I like the Baron move for NY, as a low risk minimum salary guy on a team desperate for PGs. Nothing lost if he can’t play.

I think the Lakers are going to fall off this year and be in the hunt for an 8-seed, you heard it here first. Clips might be real contenders in the West - they have clear deficiencies (front court depth being the biggest), but CP3 almost beat the Lakers last year with no one near as good as Blake on his team.

If Rip gets reinvigorated, Chicago could be a tough out for the Heat in the ECF. With Jeff Green out for the season, the ECF is a 2-horse race between CHI/MIA in my opinion.

Also excited to watch Rubio play.

Edit: To be clear, when I said the Lakers will be in the hunt for the 8 seed, I meant they might fall as far as an 8-seed and be in the 6th-8th seed range fighting to stay out of 8th. I didn’t mean it would be a struggle to even make the playoffs.
overstand wrote:

I agree. The LAC deal keeps them younger, more flexible contract-wise and perhaps a more attractive package for potential buyer (if u believe what the league is saying anyway)

I’ve also said that LAL is better off with Gasol + Bryant, as far as being legit contender.

It was HOU who got screwed the most by that veto.

Did you consider the mental state of Kobe when making this prediction? I’m referring to his divorce obviously.

Do you see it as a real factor?

Also how much is this going to cost to remove?

I don’t see any dark horse teams breaking out this season, but I do see Memphis taking that next step into the NBA elite. They looked scary good in the playoffs without their star player Rudy Gay. I also see OKC becoming the premier team in the WC.

I watched the Mavs-OKC preseason game last night, Dirk/Kidd didn’t play so there wasn’t much to talk about other than Kendrick Perkins. I posted a pic a few pages back, the guy lost 30 lbs and looks like a new person. He looked great in the preseason game, much quicker running the floor and you can tell he put a lot of work in on his post game as well. I thought OKC was going to be favorites simply because they had an extra year of experience under their belts, but if Kendrick Perkins can keep playing the way he did last night (8/8/3 in 20 min) they are going to be very tough to beat.

And I realize it’s just the preseason and these guys have had all of a week to play together, but the Mavs just looked totally out of sync. Odom looked good, Delonte played some pretty good D on Westbrook, but Vince Carter looked AWFUL. I mean total shit. His jumper was terrible, he’s a half step slower even than last season, it was almost painful to watch.

And I see the Clippers like last years Knicks. Couple all star pieces but without the rest of the team to back them up. NYK added Chandler so it will be interesting to see what they do, but I don’t think the Clippers are contenders. They will be very exciting to watch though.

If you ask me maybe it will have the opposite effect of what everyone would expect, that is, it actually may help out his game. Maybe the bitch was holding him back?

Then again maybe he’ll become enveloped in the California bachelor life; hitting the strip club after losses, partying at the clubs, hanging with his celebrity pals on the Sunset Strip, etc.

Wonder how many sluts will be bragging on Twitter about how they got banged by Kobe.

Baron Davis to the Knicks - black santa in the Big Apple.

He won 5 rings with Shaq and Gasol. He’s got 5 rings but she has one big ass diamond on her finger. Or at least used to have it on her finger. Now she can sell it and buy a house.

Nah, I think one thing he’ll never have a problem with is mental focus.

I do think his increasing age in a condensed season will be a factor though. Let’s be honest, he was the second best player on the floor in two playoff series last year.

 1. As lame as it sounds, the Darrell Arthur injury is going to hurt them. He improved a LOT last year and was an important third big. They need that depth. Still though, I could see them making the WCF as a best case scenario, and that is damn good for a team from MEM.

 2. Vince Carter just flat out sucks. I think Mavs will be fine though, getting Odom makes the loss of Chandler a little easier. But I really think Cuban was saving money for next offseason (didn’t re-sign Chandler so he had room to offer CP3/Howard max deals next summer).

 3. Difference - Chris Paul (WHEN HEALTHY) is much better than Carmelo or Amare. He scared the Lakers with a team that was basically him and no one. Blake is significantly better than anyone on that NOH team. Only question is health - which is a legitimate one.

Less-than-zero percent chance of this. Its well documented how the guy is an obsessive workaholic and never been a big time party guy.

I also have it on good authority that Bryant’s “extracurricular activity” has been going on for awhile now, for however little such gossip is worth.
