NBA Lockout

Eh, it took them a while to get back fully. They’re good now though.

I just don’t think the NBA system was as broken as theirs. It doesn’t need a lost season to fix. They are SO CLOSE and just being obstinate.

But, it’s absolutely true that no one but hardcore fans care. Not even a zillionth of the outrage so far as there’d be if football had missed a few weeks.

The NBA is still the 2nd most popular league in the US. They will not lose their fan base no matter what happens . NBA players have the most brand power out of any athlete group. Teams are iconic. There’s no outrage because there is no rush. With football you only have 16 games in the season. The NFL season is basically an extended playoff.

This whole lock-out thing probably has some people believing the NBA is broke or something. The NBA is not broke. There’s a current power struggle to determine the future of the NBA. If there was someway they could reach a short-term deal I’m sure they would but alas that would just prolong the problem.

How are we ever going to live without our weekly dose of Lebron James douchiness?

Lets hope this can hold us down for a short while.

^^^ Good god he’s a cocksucker. He did an unimpressive dunk in an All-Star game with no one playing D and stood around expecting adoration like he just cured cancer. Again, what a tool.

I can’t remember if it was Terrico White or Josh Shelby but one of those two guys got revenge for that lady after a sick dunk from an LBJ pass (at least I think it was LBJ who made the assist). Nevertheless, after the dunk the dude went up and the court, LBJ had his hand out and the dude totally brushed him off i.e. ignored him lol.

EDIT: It was Terrico White:

Hilarious!

Saw this a couple of days ago. Had no idea white had bounce like that, but he’s nowhere best the best dunker in the league. My vote goes to JR Smith, who’s the only guy I’ve ever seen who’s just as explosive off of either foot or both feet. DeRozan, Nick Young, Iguodala, Brandon Jennings (trust me), Jerryd Bayless, etc… I could name probably 20 more dudes who can do some absolutely ridiculous shit. White did do some damn impressive stuff though.

I liken this to the NHL Lockout, the NBA will be better for losing a season eventually[/quote]

It’s hard to say, right now. There were other factors involved with the NHL’s recovery.

The NHL had some rule changes to help alleviate what was becoming an increasingly boring [i.e., low scoring] style of play by the teams. That helped with things. The NBA on the other hand just had one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory.

I suppose any salary changes that allows weaker teams to still be competitive would be better in the long run for the NBA, but even there I have my doubts.

Also, I’m surprised I care so little about the lockout.

I’m the same way but thats because of football. When that’s over and we don’t have the last month of the season and playoffs there will be a sports void that cannot be filled.

Yep February is gonna suck donkey dick

^exactly.

I miss it tons because I don’t watch hockey or football.

I’ve been checking MLB trade rumours multiple times a day to get my sports fill.

On the plus side I’ve been filling weeknight evenings with reading up on shit I wouldn’t normally have time to do.

maybe you should start…seriously, Im gonna start watching college basketball which I never do.

Yep. College hoops and vegas-for-march-madness figure to be the only prescription for prolonging the inevitable.

Though I’m still holding out hope for a 50-game season, but I can’t say I much care about the lockout either. Now Jada Stevens, now that’s a diff story…

You’re doing it wrong, rajraj.

Football and hoop and even playoff hockey are where its at, while there’s just nothing more worthless than non-playoff baseball. (Doyers fan here so Kempy & Kershaw’s seasons notwithstanding)

x2 raj you’re fucking up my man

To the 3 posts above:

Problem is, for me to watch a sport I need to be a fan of a team.

I can only become a fan of a team organically - I was born and live in Toronto, so by default all Toronto teams are the ones I root for.

I went to school in Canada so my alma mater does not play in the NCAA.

I guess I could start following the Leafs again (use to follow hockey up until the end of high school - 2004), but the sport has too little strategy. Seems like I’m watching random chaos.

BTW I like baseball just as much as basketball if not more.

NFL needs to get it’s ass in gear and found a team here. The metropolitan area of this city is over 5,000,000

Yea you should be watching cricket.

Nick Young?? I’ve been to a bunch of wizards game and he’s never had close to an impressive dunk.
