NBA Lockout

Well, it’s pretty clear that there’s gonna be some major moves in the next few weeks. Paul is definitely out of NO, and Howard is definitely gone from the Magic. Both of those dudes have made it abundantly clear they aren’t re-signing, so their teams are gonna have to move 'em to get something out of it.

From everything I’ve read, Howard wants to be a Laker, and it looks like the feeling’s mutual, but if Stern squashed the Paul deal how does he let this go through? Also, haven’t seen it personally but was told that Courtney Lee called the NBA “rigged” on his twitter account. If true, he’s gonna catch a MAJOR fine, maybe more.

Welp. That settles it. Magic is indeed a flaming homosexual. I guess he had group sex with women to throw everyone off his homo scent.

It’s not a “rumor” if I personally know someone that with no agenda whatsoever shares stories Magic’s epic parties. It’s like your buddy telling you he had hot chocolate at starbucks and you calling it a “rumor” and WF coming along saying “but I knew someone that claimed he had hot chocolate at starbucks but I heard it was really tea from dunkin’ donuts because i had an ex GF’s mom once say she saw him acting like he drank tea once and saw tea stains on his jersey so there is no way he could possibly be having hot chocolate at starbucks”.

Something like that.

From what I understand, Stern can veto the NO deal because the Hornets are owned by the league. He wouldn’t be able to do anything about an LA-Orlando deal.

The more I think about it, the more I think Stern did the right thing (financially anyway). When the NBA bought the Hornets, the 29 other owners split the cost. They want to get their money back asap, so they don’t want to take on a bunch of expensive contracts, even if it would make the Hornets a better team. Prospective buyers are going to want a team they can build from scratch, not a team that’s hamstrung for the next 3-4 years with huge contracts.

Morally I don’t know what kind of precedent it sets.

This is actually pretty funny. But, unless your buddy was part of it all he knows is, well, nothing.

EDIT: I brought my ex’s mom up 'cause she’s spent the better part of her life in the Montrose district of Houston, which is the 2nd largest gay area in the country. The lady knows her gay, and all she had to do was listen to Magic talk and watch his mannerisims for a few minutes to come to that conclusion. And, again, unless your buddy was in the room watching or partaking, all he saw was someone go in a room.

From that angle, I guess it does make sense. But, when you do something like that but use “for the betterment of the small markets” excuse it’s kinda fucked up.

if you’re a regular at his parties, you know. if you’re regular in those circles, you know. if he were a flaming homosexual, it would not be a secret in those circles either. him being bisexual is more likely. i think arsenio is a fag, i think eddie murphy likes some cock from time to time and i don’t think it’s a stretch to imagine magic liked a little magic wand during his magic show.

but my point is and was that magic fucked women in epic numbers…more than one at a time.

You could be right. I agree about Arsenio and Murphy. Murphy got busted with a tranny hooker several years ago, so kinda hard to argue that one.

It was Pooh Richardson by the way that frequently attended his parties. And I knew at least a dozen other players in the league at the time and given his kiss to Isiah, it was a topic of conversation from time to time, like “hey, is Magic a fag?”. There was NEVER any suggestion that he didn’t fuck women in epic numbers. As far as sucking dick along the way, unless it was your own dick getting sucked or you saw a cock in his mouth, I don’t think anyone can say with certainty. However, his parties were talked about. Velvet rope. Upstairs. Groups of women.

As for the Isiah kiss, it was oddly Isiah that questioned Magic’s long time agent whether Magic was gay or not and this caused a rift between he and Magic. So I wouldn’t put too much stock into the kiss.

And if anyone really wants to know how fanatical Stern and the NBA are about their image, since you raised Rex Chapman, they actually called him to NY to speak about his inter-racial dating habits. Early on, they were hoping Rex would be Larry Bird’s heir apparent and draw white fans. Remember this is on the heels of the NBA’s resurrection from irrelevance and that was largely done on the backs of Bird and Magic.

I remember Richardson. Ran point on those god-awful early 90’s Clipper teams. If true about Chapman, that’s insane. But, I don’t really get it as there were/are several black NBA players that are married to all types of non black women. And, as much as I liked Chapman, he didn’t have the game to warrant that kind of attention. Some good years with the Hornets and Bullets, but kinda leveled off after that.

You guys seen this picture of Kendrick Perkins?

dude must have lost like 30 or 40 pounds

By the way BG, if you have any old ball stories from that era I’d love to hear ‘em. Orlando Woolridge came into a restuarant I bartended at a few years ago and shot the shit with him for a good bit. Cool cat. He told me a coupe of young Jordan stories that were great, like how during their first practice he was talkin’ shit to EVERYONE and was basically doing whatever he wanted on the floor and no one could do anything about it.

I heard it from several different sources…it was a pretty well known story at the time. It wasn’t so much that it was “inter-racial” dating per se they were against, it was that early on, they were hoping he’d fill Bird’s shoes and it was that he was dating black women. They either wanted (asked) him to cool it or be more discrete. He did level off, but early he had potential and they had hopes for him.

I grew up around Wes Wesley who was Jordan’s confidante for many years. He knows all the dirt. There are LOTS of Jordan stories. I know Wes, used to hang here locally with Barkley and a few Sixers. Probably played with at least 2 dozen guys from the league and was friendly with at least half. To be honest, I forget most of the stories. But there are plenty. And Jordan was notorious for being unusually cruel to his teammates, among other things. He had many character flaws. The PR job done with his image is nothing short of remarkable. One thing he did do well was keep his fucking mouth shut. Something Tiger Woods could have used during his problems. But as for stories, in one ear out the other - its a long time ago for me. Sometimes something will jog my memory like this Magic stuff. I played with a lot of Sixers, Knicks and then Bullets guys and anyone from that era from our local schools that played pro (Temple, LaSalle, Penn, Drexel, Villanova). If they were from around here in the late 80’s to mid 90’s, I played with and against them.

I do remember the biggest dick I played against: Anthony Mason, Knicks.

MASE…I guess his play mirrored his personality as well…it also runs in the family as his son is an asshole as well.

Holy shit, they just blocked the CP3 to Clippers trade.

I’ve played against a handful of NBA players as well, and for the most part they were all pretty cool. There were a couple who were fairly standoffish, but nothing ridiculous.

I’ve heard quite a bit about Jordan being a dick behind the scenes, but at one point he was one of the 5 most famous people on the world. It’s not an excuse, but having that level of fame would do weird things to peoples heads.

God dammit.

The Mavs keep losing pieces - just lost JJ Barea.

I’m ok with that. I watched probably 50% of the Mavs regular season games and JJ does some literal face palm shit sometimes. He gets stuffed all the time driving the lane because he’s like 5’2, he’s not a good passer and his 3 is inconsistent. He’s a good dude and a hard worker so I’m happy that he’s getting paid, but I’m also happy it isn’t the Mavs paying him.

@ the Clippers deal getting nixed: WTF ???

I don’t get it. I could understand Stern not wanting a bunch of veteran contracts in NO because it makes it tougher to sell the team, but the Clippers offer was pretty damn good and full of young talent.

Pretty clear Stern knows something we don’t and has plans for NO.
