The Heat are just getting better and better. They have the best team on paper bar-none.
LOL they were the “best team on paper” last year too. Too bad there isn’t a “Best Team On Paper” Trophy. Maybe they’ll make one in their honor this year.
Who do you have winning it all this season?

They still made it to the Finals their first year as a team. Took Jordan’s Bulls 3 seasons, same with Shaq/Kobe Lakers.

Battier just made the best/one of the best defensive teams significantly better on defense. They need a serviceable big man though, Dampier and Joel Anthony aren’t going to cut it.

Also just read an article about D. Howard. Apparently he met with the Nets russian owner and the President, and now Orlando is thinking about filing tampering charges (which would block the trade, and probably cost them draft picks).

Ddaaaaaamn.

Portland is one hard luck franchise.

Watch Greg Oden retire next.

Meanwhile my team has made some big moves… Raps just signed Jamaal Magloire.

Hello Championship!

First Canadian to play for the Raptors.

It seems as if the Nets are already close to signing Nene so that may tell us something about the possibilities of Howard going to the Nets.

It seems as if the Heat begrudgingly have to be considered the best team in the East, if they sign a Dalembert they should be pretty tough to beat…though my knicks front line matches up pretty well with em.

Do you guys see someone picking up Gilbert Arenas since the Magic waived him?

Also Magic just traded Brandon Bass for Big Baby.

If Raj is Ric Bucher you must be Chris Broussard.

Fuck…
Either I’m Broussard or I’m having a hard time concentrating on chemistry :stuck_out_tongue:

Hornets, Lakers, and Rockets resume talks. Would it even matter at this point? Stern doesn’t to turn back on his decision.

Yeah and how bout those backcourt matchups? LOL

Begrudgingly? They did win the East last year and no one else has made a significant upgrade out there yet (I would LOVE Afflalo on the Bulls, J-Rich would be a good fit too).

Sorry I just don’t see the Knicks as a real contender. You have to have more than one starter interested in playing D. Also, with the condensed schedule, D’Antoni’s strategy of playing a 7-man rotation and giving 42 mins/night to Amare/Melo is going to catch up to Amare’s knees REAL quick.

The OP broke the news about renewed trade talks before Yahoo or any of the other big news outlets. Supposedly he knows a guy who knows/works for Kupchak.

Alleged deal

T.Williams, Odom, Scola, Dragic + picks to NO
Okafor & Paul to LAL
Gasol to Hou

Correction ^

My post isn’t showing up, but it’s not the OP of that thread, the OP I’m talking about is named “crossover”, and he started this thread:

Begrudgingly because I hate the Heat not because they dont deserve it. The acquisition of Chandler is going to take the 42 minutes a game for Amare a thing of the past. To say the Knicks haven’t made a significant upgrade with the acquisition (presumably) of Chandler is not fair. Lets also not forget the acquisition of assistant coach Mike Woodson who will instill a more defensive mindset than in the past. The Knicks should in all likelihood be a top 2-5 team in the east (not saying much I know) Melo gives Lebron fits, Toney Douglas at this point is the starting PG and is a good defensive player as is Iman Shumpert. So its not one starting player in the 5, its 2 plus an asst coach that will implore them to play D, it seems as if you are not giving the Knicks any credit, and basically lessening the matchup nightmares the Knicks will give other teams. I am not saying the Knicks are better than the heat or the Bulls, however I could make an argument that they are a top 3 team in the east and will not be over matched against the top 2.

^^I’ve heard them all talking about that too. if its true it basically seals the deal that Howard goes to LA IMO… I hope its true lol

I heard that if the deal is changed a bit and includes another player or picks that stern can save face and let it go through as being ‘better for the competitive nature of the game’ or some BS like that.

Pretty much pure speculation at this point (i know) but I really see the trade going through otherwise there will be a serious lawsuit against the league (which they obviously didnt want by looking at the CBA negotiations)

Hahaha you misread my post. I said none of the real contenders made a significant upgrade. I didn’t say the Knicks didn’t make a significant upgrade.

Gilbert blows and I wouldn’t even pay him a 1 year minimum contract if I were a GM. He is a headcase and not worth having on a roster. Maybe a strong veteran team who needs a 4th or 5th guard. I wouldn’t want that cancer around any young or developing players. The guy is delusional and his fall from grace has really fucked with his mental health.

Arguably the biggest advantage the Lakers have had over the last 5 years is their ridiculous amount of height/length with Odom/Gasol/Bynum, that trade turned a major strength into a major weakness.

CP3 though is incredible when healthy.

Again, whether it made them better or worse, it was an amazingly interesting 3-team trade for anyone who loves the sport of basketball as a whole. I actually loved that deal for HOU… they could’ve afforded Nene, had a Nene/Gasol frontcourt and been an actual contender again in the West.
It’s definitely one of their biggest advantages. Having a front line that averages damn near 7 feet is playing with a loaded deck.

The funny thing is out of that 3 team trade, I honestly think the Lakers were getting the short end of the stick [no pun intended].
No doubt I agree the Lakers would be worse off if the trade happened. Hollinger had a good analysis on ESPN describing how even just trading Pau for Paul would’ve made them worse, let alone sweetening it with Odom.

However, the deal would have gave them a lot of cap relief, and may have been better for them in the future. Pau gets $19M per through 2014, and probably isn’t worth that anymore (seemed to be declining last year). Then again, I assume the Lakers are more interested in getting the title now before the harsh lux tax rules come into effect.

I see what you did there U BASTARD LOL!

On the topic of Tyson Chandler:

It seems like the Mavericks FINALLY found a big man to fit their system and they don’t resign him. I don’t get it.

With all these super teams being built, the only likable contender is turning out to be the Mavericks & Thunder.

They just didn’t have the cash. Even if they amnestied Haywood.

Dirk’s gotta be pissed he took less so he could have good teammates… then the teammates won’t take less after he gets 'em a ring.
