NBA Free Agency/Offseason

This kind of got lost in the debates, but which teams are you all rooting for next season?

I can gather that Rand, Flash, and greg like the Lakers, tmoney likes the Thunder, red04 likes the Cav’s etc, but it’s hard to keep track.

For me: The Raptors of course. The Suns, because of Nash and the fact that they’ve been my favourite team to watch for year. And it seems like everything about the Thunder is great, management, coaching, players, their superstar, everything. I think I’ll be rooting for them from now on, too. I was rooting for them when they faced the Lakers.

You’re not even a good liar. Troll.
What did the baby video hurt your feelings I’m not this Drew, quite being a baby.
Liar.

What’s the deal with Fish? Just posturing for more money from the Lakers?
Yes, the Heat are only able to offer him less than the Lakers are offering. Every one was getting all excited about this like it actually has some chance of reality.
sardines12 wrote:
Fisher is solid for Miami so is Chalmers this team hardly needs a distributor just someone to play D and shoot open J’s. This team is going to have some fire power if they can land Fish.
Drewdines, Fish ain’t going to Miami. I’ll bet you’re new account that if he doesn’t go tp Miami, you lose it again. troll.

I’m rooting for two teams next year. The Lakers and anyone who plays Miami.

Haha, I think a lot of people will be rooting for that second option you gave. The “Yankees of the NBA” sounds better than “Superteam” anyway :D.

And oh yeah: Bill Simmons used the ‘William J. Simmons’ name like he said he would if Steven A. Smith was right, LOL.

My team is the Lakers and always will be… But I do like some other teams. If not the Lakers this is the order of teams I would rather win a Ring:

Suns: I really like Nash. I hope he can win a ring before his career is over cause he is really good

Thunder: I like Durant even though he looks unhealthaly skinny (yeah unhealthaly is a word. I just made it up)

Cavs: Pretty much never going to happen but it would be awesome to hear what the Gillbert had to say while hoisting up the trophy! haha!

then pretty much any other team in any order ending with Celtics and finally the Heat… Those are the bottom 2 for me.

I liked the Heat before they got LBJ but the way James went about it really left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I hope they dont win just because of LeBron. I dont like his attitude and maybe after a year or two he’ll come across as a bit more humble or at least not putting himself above the game and I’ll start being ok with it. It just sucks for Bosh and Wade because I like them but just dont like “the self proclaimed King”

Good man sir, good man.

I grew up in Oklahoma City, hence why I’m a Thunder fan. Don’t live there anymore, but get NBA LeaguePass so I can watch all the games.

Before the Thunder came to OKC, I didn’t have a favorite team, but watch NBA for the love of the game.

Raptors have a decent squad (Bargnani, Calderon, Johnson re-signed). Solomon Alabi should be a good pick up for TOR. The best thing your boys can do is move on without Bosh and make a mark.

I have to admit even as a die-hard Lakers fan. I also really like OKC. What’s not to like about this team? What’s not to like about their start Kevin Durant? Talk about a polar opposite approach to free agency from the ultimate douche bag of all time, LeGay Lames. He basically just re-upped for 5 years max money and did it very quietly with his current team. The guy is a class act and so is the team.

It’s unfortunate that they will lose to the Lakers again in the playoffs but I don’t how long they will be able to hold off this up and coming team.

Windhorst: LeBron James was headed to Miami for years

Brian Windhorst was the MVP of sports media from the time the NBA season ended, right up through the first two weeks of July (and going strong). The beat reporter for the Cleveland Plain-Dealer has been following LeBron James since he was in puberty, following the prolific modern athlete through high school, his decision to go pro, his drafting by the Cavs, his early development, the first time the Cavs made the playoffs, their run to the Finals, and their subsequent repeated heartbreaks.

He was caught off guard by how quickly James’ demeanor changed once free agency started. He followed the process, all the while being open and honest about the information he received from his sources. And now, with the star-athlete he’s followed for a decade having abandoned his home state, Windhorst has laid out how this all went down.

And it’s not pretty.

Saturday, Windhorst released an article for the Plain-Dealer outlining the exact process from 2006 in the World Championships in Japan to signing-day on Friday in Miami, how the Heat were able to put together a team of three superstars.

You need to go read it.

Just in case you’re finding it hard to come up with reasons to click through, here are a few gems:

* Team USA played a huge part in this, as their experiences being together, playing together, and talking were what first brought the idea to them.
* The Knicks were primarily the ones who planted the possibility in Riley's head and laid out the path to creating the cap room necessarily to pull this off.
* Riley set up a meeting between James and Michael Jordan last November, and talked about how modern players should "pay homage to Jordan." That was the same night James announced he was switching jersey numbers out of respect. Riley had influence, as much as nine months ago.
* Wade went to meet with James and Bosh the last week of June to sell them on this idea. That would be the week before free agency started, when Wade was still a member of the Miami Heat, basically recruiting them to come to his team. The word you're looking for is tampering.
* Most interesting from that visit, Windhorst reports that Wade was discouraged from making this pitch by Commissioner David Stern. With the way things have gone down, there has to be discussion of whether or not we'll be seeing tampering charges brought upon the Heat.
* James was offered the same preferential treatment for him and his friends that he was given in Cleveland, so you can expect the same kind of crony-ism to continue.
* Windhorst also reports on why the Bulls and Knicks didn't land James, which are predictable but still interesting.

For Cleveland fans, it just adds to the feeling of being duped by James and drives the dagger deeper (at this point, the handle’s pretty much inside their heart, much less the blade). For the rest of the world, it shows that these three were serious from the beginning, about controlling their own fate, and manipulating events to bring about what they wanted, the chance to play together.

A good old fashioned conspiracy. Even in the modern era.

Here is the full article by Windhorst. Tampering charges brought on by David Stern on Pat Riley and the Miami Heat?

Ric Bucher from ESPN just stated he feels OKC is the second best team in the West.

Gotta lotta work to do, keep working hard and playing smart, we got this!

I honestly dont see anything wrong with them deciding “hey we’re three of the best basketball players on the planet. Lets team up in a couple years when our contracts are up and try to run the NBA”

I really dont think there is anything wrong with that I just HATE the way James and his camp went about it. Thats what makes me dislike him and in return the Heat.

I always used to think that, but now I think ‘being that skinny doesn’t mess up his game, so KD can keep doin his thing.’

And if you think he’s skinny on TV, you should see him in person haha.

So 3 friends tried to make it so they’d be able to play together. Very evil.

Basketball player buddies are going to hang out and talk about things. I’m sure things like Wade’s “tampering” visit happen all the time. As for the Riley tampering, I would think that probably happens all the time too. I dunno.

Yeah I think he could put on a little size just to hang with getting bodied up on drives but he definitely manages with his size so why fix what isnt broken. He really does like like a 15 year old though. A skinny 15 year old baller lol

NEW: Ben Wallace states he plans on signing a two-year deal with the Pistons soon.

NEW: Tony Allen leaving BOS to sign 3yr/9.7M deal with MEM.

Blow to that Boston defense.
