NBA Draft

Haha, used to have Darko’s cell phone number by random chance…used to call him when I was real drunk and just shout “DARRRRRKO!!!” over and over.

Felt like 7th grade again.

Oh I agree, it’s great problem to have. Plus, it gives them a ton of trade flexibility should they ever want to land a key veteran or any other trade that would help them.

They should be definitely interesting to watch next year. I’m hoping Oden comes back strong. It’s hard not to root for the guy. His ESPN spots are great.
Ohhhhhh good call, didn’t think about landing a vet down the road. I think this team will start making the playoffs, but lose in the early rounds. Then they will need a veteran player for leadership, and one of their talented young players get traded for a chance to win a title.

And yeah, Oden’s commercials are great, crack me up every time.

HAHAAAAAA no way!!! That’s awesome!! Did you actually have a chance to talk to him, or did you just yell DARRRRRRRKOOOO!!! over and over lol.

I feel bad for the guy though. In game 5 vs. the Lakers, when the Pistons have wrapped up the title, Darko gets trash time in the last 45 seconds of the game and ends up breaking his hand. Tough break.

Well, he never said much other than “Hello??? HELLO? Who the hell is this?”

I remember dropping some wise-ass comment after he got traded to Orlando (which ended up netting the Pistons the Stuckey pic) but mostly I remember just yelling “DARRRRKOOOOO!!!” over and over.

He changed his cell phone number shortly after being traded btw…

haha…that’s good stuff. Oh, that reminds me. I have a friend that used to live in Dallas and she has all kinds of drunk pictures of Dirk Nowitzki flipping off the camera. I’ll have to see if I still have any of them saved.

Ah nevermind, I just checked my old emails. I must have deleted them. You can always check out drunkathlete.com, I guess.

Unless the Clips trade Maggette, and Mobley and Thornton shift spots Gordon’s gonna have a hell of a time finding minutes. I like the Joe Alexander pick, but now that Jefferson is there at the 3 and Villanueva’s at the 4 he’s gonna have alot of time to study the playbook and watch film.

I agreed with Tmoney earlier, and I really hope we’re both wrong, but I see this as being an average draft at best, and at worst producing a ton of guys who are out of the league in a few years.

Maggette is likely going to opt out of the final year though and Milwaukee has been fielding offers for Villanueava for a while.

But I do agree about the quality of the draft though. You could see it last night with how so many people dropped lower than they were originally projected as going. Seems like most of the guys this year had too many question marks about whether they could really be an NBA player.

I knew about Maggete possibly opting out, but I hadn’t heard about Villanueva. Every year there’s a few people picked earlier than expected or dropping a few spots lower, but never anything like last night. I feel for Deandre Jordan. A month ago he was a lottery pick, and last night he went in the 2nd round. He might not even make a roster.

Anthony Randolph going 14th is absurd. He’s playing in Europe or completely out of basketball in a few years. One guy I do like is Bill Walker. He was billed as the next VC coming outta HS, has had some knee injuries-including a meniscus problem during the pre draft process- and was picked by the Wiz and traded to the Celts in the 2nd round.

He’s really explosive around the basket, and if he can get his knee problems sorted out and improve his handle and mid range game, he has starter potential down the road.

Well, I only knew about Villanueava because he’s been in rumors involving the Warriors since before the trade deadline last season.

I’m not sold on Randolph. Too young, too skinny, and seems like a long term project. I have no idea what’s going to happen with him.

You never know about these guys that had injuries pre-draft. Monta Ellis has knee issues coming out of high school and slipped to the second round. Seems like that worked out pretty well for the W’s.
Ellis is a strange case in that he tested as the worst overall athlete the year he came out. Not one of the worst, the absolute worst, but when game time comes he’s all over the court, flying on the break, breaking people down off the bounce, getting dunks, etc… To the guy who said he sees Mayo as an all-star if he wants it, I don’t see it. To me, he’s a poor mans Brandon Roy. They say he put up a 40" on the max vert, but I think that’s a typo, 'cause he’s not explosive around the rim AT ALL, and he has trouble getting by guys off the bounce at the college level so he’s gonna have more trouble in the pros. I see Bayless as a more athletic Ellis, and think he’s gonna be a player down the road.

And that’s why with a lot of sports, these tests are worthless. A person can test through the roof on stuff like bench press or vertical jump, but when it comes to game time, they just don’t show up. Then, you have these guys that test terribly on everything, but can just flay out play.

Too bad they don’t have a test for how much heart and passion a guy has for the game. I’d put more stock in that with most of these guys than any physical test you can give them.
