NBA Commentator???

Dang! I didn’t think that NBC could get worse than Peter Vesey (even though, for the life of me, I can’t see Bill Walton’s appeal; him and Vessy tend to irritate me equally like nails on a chalkboard)…oh well…

But who is this irritating bald guy that they have with Hanna Storm now?( SHE even seems irritated by the guy!) What’s his background?

(THANK GOODNESS they still have Bob Costas and Marv Albert…”YEESssssss……!!!”)

The bald guy is Tom Tolbert. He is an ex NBA player and currently a radio host on KNBR out of San Fransisco. I like Tom because he has a sense of humor and is not afraid to say what he means, such as picking the Kings to win the series vs the Lakers.
I can’t stand Walton or Vesey. Vesey is always spouting off with some rumor or another. 9 out of 10 times he is wrong.
Enough of my rant, enjoy the playoffs and GO KINGS!!

Thanks, banker!

Question: Does Hanna seem irritated by Tolman most of the time to you?

Ooops…Tolbert!

NBC’s coverage of the NBA is poor at best. I really miss the Bob Costas, Doug Collins team, but Marv is still solid. As for the half time crew, they are all bad and how Tolbert made it on the show is beyond me.

I like Tolbert as a player (even named my 3-on-3 basketball team the Tom Tolbert Fan Club for fun one year), but the guy is weak.

Give me EJ, Kenny and Charles at the half and Dick Stockton and Hubie Brown calling the game and I am a happy man. TNT does a much better job overall than NBC.

And yes, Hannah does seem bothered by Tolbert, but I will still take Tolbert over Vescey any day of the week.

She seems irriatated at Tolbert. It seems like she does not like him because he is not the typical puppet of the NBA on NBC. She just wants generic responses and he goes off on tangents. He is the best thing that happened to the show.

Well,I think that even Portland was annoyed with Walton when he was here - I don’t care even if he was on the “Champion” Blazers of 77 team.

i dont know, the bald guy tolbert just says some real dumb shit on the show, most of the time its a joke i realize but its not funny, not to even chuckle

Tolbert needs to stop trying to be funny and just make his points. Vecsey made one of the all-time dumbass comments: “Robert Horry is a star…he’s carrying the Lakers.” What the fuck?

Blah…the combination of Walton and Snapper is the best team out there. Walton is hilarious.

When I hear Marv I can’t stop laughing because of thinking of him biting some chick’s ass.

I think Costas has the be the MOST annoying play by play guy out there. When he first came out he tried to call it like a baseball game and kept throwing around so many stats it was annoying. He’s tamed down a bit but that wannabe witty overintellectualizing crap still gets really annoying.

I think Hannah is the one that is pretty annoying. As for Tolbert, he steps over the line sometimes but overall he is highly entertaining.

And all of them need to get rid of the compulory, “…is the greatest in the history of the NBA,” line that is thrown around at least 5 times every game. It’s been used so much it lacks credibility.

P: Your comment was VERY timely!

Last night, Tolbert made some VERY lame “joke” about the “SuperFly” glasses one of the players was wearing that they interviewed and how “dope” they were! (Superfly? Most of these players PARENTS weren’t alive when “SuperFly” was made!)

Armad attempted a smile and a weak laugh…didn’t work!..LOL!!!:)—

Those sunglasses were dope, but Tolbert’s just out of place. He talks like he’s on the Jim Rome show (which I actually like), but Hannah Storm and Ahmad Rashad are so stiff and g-rated that Tolbert’s comments just hang there and it seems awkward…

I’ll probably get flamed for this one, but I’ve never seen a female sports commentator or news anchor that knew her ass from her elbow. Hannah Storm, Andrea Joyce, Cheryl Miller, Mary Carillo… they’re all boring and obnoxious. BTW, I also place Marv Albert in this category, as he likes to prance around in women’s panties! I agree with Jason about Charles, Kenny, and EJ. “The Czar” (Mike Fratello) is pretty good, too. Can’t stand Hubie Brown or any of the other clowns on NBC or TNT currently, though. I must say, though, everyone here who doesn’t get Fox Sports New England is missing out; the Celtics have had, bar none, the greatest commentators in the history of basketball. I’ll never forget the separate times Johnny Mize called the fights between Bird and Dr. J, Bird and Lambeer, and Jerry Sichsting (still my hero) and Ralph Sampson. Absolute classic. Pure tradition, baby. Now, it’s almost as good with Tommy Heinsohn and Mike Gorman. Bob Cousy used to be part of the team, but now he only does ten or fifteen games a season. Then you’ve got Willy May in the stands getting the inside dirt. If you aren’t watching the Celts now, it’s time to get a satellite dish!
