Nice pics, Chrysalis. I don’t head over to Many Glacier very often - it’s a bit too far of a drive for me. Here are some pics from Two Medicine area.

.

The Little Matterhorn - in the Lake McDonald area. That peak is way the hell back… something like an 11 mile approach just to get to the base of it, plus another 800ft of 4th class to summit it.

I spend the majority of my time in the Many Glacier area. One of my favorite pack trips is to go up from Swiftcurrent, through Ptarmigan Tunnel and down into the Canadian side, to Belly River. I usually do it in 7-10 days, make a nice leisurely trip of it. Of course I have not done it in a number of years. Last time was with my late husband, for one of our anniversary trips.
I look forward to doing more extreme hiking, now that my ACL is repaired! Had the surgery in Oct.
Whereabouts in MT are you? I live in Ronan, work in Missoula…

THe 11 miles is no sweat, but the 800 ft of 4th class elevation is a bit out of my range right now! Maybe by the end of the summer…![]()
A pic from the deck of my old house…Bitterroot Range, near Florence.

North end of the Flathead valley.
I guess Many Glacier isn’t any closer for you than it is for me.

Well, the 40 lbs pack filled with climbing gear (the person I was climbing with needed a belay even though I didn’t) had me sweating a little by the time I reached the base of the climb. It is a ~4800 foot climb from the trailhead at lake McDonald to Comeau pass after all.

I have not done any climbing since my search and rescue days, back before my daughter was born! She is 22 now…Not sure if it is on the approved list of activities my cadaver grafted knee can do at this point…ha. This trail is a bit challenging during spring runoff:

I’m pretty sure walking down a steep trail with a heavy backpack is waayy harder on your knees than any kind of climbing.
Some nice pics here, what cameras are you guys using?

My Ventura County Pics are taken with a Nikkon D200, The ones from Palau were taken with a clunky old Sony Mavica.

I have a little Nikon Coolpix L5. I am a firm Nikon fan; I sold my nice Nikon 35mm film slr about ten years ago (I had aspirations, for a time, of being a journalist, then had kids) and hope one day to buy one of the new digital Nikon SLRs.

You are most likely correct. Perhaps getting in good enough condition to climb again should be on my list of goals. I am on a 30 day self-talk improvement program right now, getting rid of my negativity. ![]()
Just a Canon TX-1, I’ve got a high quality SLR in my future though.

Basin at the bottom of Volcano Irazu in Costa Rica.

Wow you guys, these pics are breathtaking. Anyone want a roommate?
I’m so glad to see fellow nature lovers!! I feel the most peaceful when I’m outside just listening to the birds singing and the breeze blowing. Right out of a disney cartoon…
This was from a creek I used to hike to when I was in Indiana. Small but secluded. You don’t wanna know the things I got away with there…
