N.O.P.D. Most Crooked of All

first: it does not take more than one person(possibly two if at a great size advantage)to subdue a criminal that’s not attacking you but simply moving his body around to resist restraint.

as far as cuffing the individual, if they’re on the ground face down, then it requires two maybe three officers. one officer to restrain the legs and the other to restrain the torso, while the third applies the handcuffs.

there is no reason to ever kick or knee or punch in the back of the head.

i’ve taken down guys 50-80 lbs heavier than me without ever having to punch anyone in the face or doing much else than a chop behind the knee or driving my shoulder into them with my leg behind their’s. 4 of 5 times i’ve stayed on my feet.

if a police officer can’t do the same then something’s wrong either with their training or with the police officer.

another good thread. i really liked the input form officers and also people who have had bad interactions form the police.

i am going to play the middle here, as i agree with much of what the officers on this thread have said, that most of the time the people they deal with are scum bags, and usually ask for what they get. also i think it rings true that most of the general public complain about the police but they are the first to cry for daddy when they need an officer.

i also agree with the “other” side, as i too as a law abiding tax paying citizen have had very negative interactions with police. i will not go into detail here, but suffice to say that i often fantasize about meeting certain police officers in a dark alley when they are not on duty for a little pay back.

the comment a few people made about them wanting to be allowed to pack weapons and defend themselves and their family and keep the police out of the loop also seems like a good idea to me at times.

there are times when suspects really “ask for it” in which i WANT the cops to lay a beatdown. for example, everytime i watch a high speed chase caugt on film by a tv helicopter, and see some dirt bag nearly kill dozens or more people with his vehicle jsut becaus he/she does not want to go to jail, i literally WANT to see the cops (when they finally catch him/her) pull them out of the car and lay a vicious beating down upon them. really.

i also realize that line of thinking is dangerous, and leads to the kinds of excessive force used on this guy in the tape, who though i admit was resisting arrest, did not deserve or need the beat down he got.

working security in bars and clubs in my youth, i routinely took down much larger, drunk, high, etc. people than myself with a few basic moves i learned as a highschool wrestler and a friend who was a champion judoka. these were like 300lb ex college football players, no shit. so you mean to tell me 3-4 cops had to resort to punching a 64 year old retired school teacher in the face and head to subdue him when he was resisting?

one of the police officers here please respond to this for me.

All of these personal “police” stories don’t really amount to much. The police aren’t supposed to be polite and nice like the kid that works at Mickey Dees. We deal with the worst of the worst and our lives are on the line every time we put on that uniform. Go work Inglewood PD for a few weeks and then talk about “brutality” and “poor old people.” When your life is on the line you don’t really give a shit about some meth junkies feelings. It’s pretty funny that T-Nation is so sympathetic to criminals. You can’t judge police officers by the perfect standard you think they “ought” to be. It’s illogical and unreasonable.[/quote]

The officers have to be able to distinguish between south central and small town usa,Thats the problem in a lot of situations the officer themselves dont have enough LIFE expierience and try to come on to strong when its not necessary. And a situation escalates because of their attitude.

I was once at a church festival and a man about 65 sat on a bench didnt look well, stood up and fell down and started having a seisure,i was young but could tell something was wrong medically. He started shaking while laying on ground and two local cops came up and jumped on him wrestleing around with him trying to put hand cuffs on him .Then some older lady came up and said thats my neighbor hes epileptic and having a seizure, then they finally quit trying to cuff him and called the life squad.Hard telling what would have happened to the guy if the old lady wouldnt have been there.I was taught in the police academy.Dont ASSUME anything or youll make an ASS of U and ME.
