My Road To BEASTNESS w/ Vids

GVT Day 16
Chest/Back

A1) Incline BB
(195 X 4) X 3
(200 X 4) X 7

A2) Neutral-Grip Chins (one second pause at top)
(BW +30 X 4) X 10

B1) Flat DB
65 X 8 (PR +5 lbs (for each DB) from last session)
70 X 8 (PR +1 rep from last session)
80 X 8 (PR +3 reps from last session)

B2) Close-Grip Lat Pulldowns (one second pause at chest)
165 X 8
180 X 8
165 X 7

NOTES: Pressing strength is shooting through the roof on this program, it’s insane. I’m almost certain I’m going to be doing CT’s High Mass Performance or whatever, since it is the same concept of doing a lot of low rep work without hitting failure.

Happy birthday man. You’re probably warranted to do SRC’s today due to it.[/quote]

Haha, thanks man. I didn’t even think about it, but should have (I had to think for a little bit what SRC was haha)

GVT Day 17
Legs

A1) Deadlift
(375 X 4) X 10

A2) Seated Leg Curls
LV 13 X 4
LV 14 X 4
(LV 15 X 4) X 8

B1) Bench Pulls
+225 down and back
(+270 down and back) X 3
+315 down and back

B2) Bench Pushes
(+180 down and back) X 3
+225 down and back

Highlights

GVT Day 19
Arms

A1) Decline CGBP
(215 X 4) X 10

A2) Hammer Curls
(50 X 4) X 3
(60 X 4) X 3
(55 X 4) X 4

B1) Skull Crushers (kept these a bit light, used to get elbow pain from them)
70 X 8
80 X 8
80 X 9

B2) EZ-Bar Preacher Curls
70 X 8
80 X 8
80 X 8

NOTES: Today was almost too easy. It’s ridiculous how much stronger I feel with pressing since starting this. I can’t wait to do flat bench Sunday for 10 sets of 3 with some decent weight

First of all, belated happy birthday!

Looks like you’ve definitely taken a step or two down the road to beastness. I like how you made use of a bench and weight plates for a make shift sled.

It appears that GVT is loads of fun, based on your past few entries. I’m looking forward to giving it a shot after I finish my fun with 5/3/1 in a few months.

GVT Day 21
Chest/Back

A1) Bench
(225 X 3) X 10

A2) Underhand Chins (pause at top)
(BW +45 X 3) X 10

B1) Incline DB Press
60 X 8
70 X 8
80 X 8

B2) V-Bar Pulldown (one second pause at chest)
165 X 8
165 X 8
170 X 8

NOTES: Pretty damn happy today. Before I started GVT, I was doing 225 X 5 for a sloppy set. This whole volume thing with weights not as close to my 1RM is working very well

Thanks man! Went out to the bars this weekend with a bunch of people to celebrate. Good fun. Went out last night actually, only had a few drinks though because I knew I had to lift today.

GVT is working great man, I highly recommend giving it a go if you’ve stalled for a bit

GVT Day 22
Legs

A1) Squat
(285 X 3) X 11
I lost count, and didn’t want to be short a set. Though, I’m pretty sure I did one extra

A2) Seated Leg Curls

B1) Bench Pulls
(Bench +270 pounds down and back) X 5 trips
Bench +315 pounds down and back X 1 trip

B2) Bench Pushes
(Bench +270 pounds down and back) X 5 trips
Bench +315 pounds down and back X 1 trip

NOTES: Pretty good session today. Squats are getting much better

185 X 8
195 X 6
205 X 4

B2) Preacher Curls
75 X 8
75 X 8
75 X 9

Your gym has fat bars, eh? Do people there actually know their stuff?

Hey man, haven’t kept up with my log or T-Nation at all, but looks like you’re doing good. Shoot me a pm if you hit that 275 bench. I’m just not on here at all anymore, but we could keep up somehow

Yeah there are some strong guys that lift there. Unfortunately, no one goes when I do. It sucks, cause I’m usually the strongest one there. The “normal goers” are there more to just break a sweat and stay healthy (which is awesome, don’t get me wrong) but I’d really like other guys to be there that are focused on getting STRONG lol

No worries man. Where is your bench at? I think I’m getting pretty close, so look out lol. I might max when I’m done with GVT in another month

Not sure where my bench is at currently. Hit 3x245 pretty easily the other day, but due to finals and ROTC finishing up, I’ve been really busy and it’s affected my training. Still plugging along though

GVT Day 26
Chest/Back

A1) Incline BB
(215 X 3) X 10

A2) Neutral-Grip Chins
(BW +50 lbs X 3) X 10

B1) Flat DB
70 X 8
80 X 6
95 X 7 PR +5 lbs (each DB) or 3 reps same weight

B2) Underhand Pulldowns (1 second pause, 5 second hold on last rep)
165 X 8
165 X 8
180 X 8

NOTES: Damn good session.

Nice, man. I’ve got finals next week also. It’s gonna suck

Well, I’m pretty sure I’ll be hitting 275 pretty soon, sounds like you will too! I’ll go for it a few weeks into January when I’m done with GVT.

GVT Day 27
Legs

A1) Deadlift
(405 X 3) X 10

A2) Seated Leg curl
(LV 17 X 3) X 10

B1) Bench Pushes
270 X 1 lap
( 315 X 1 lap) X 4

B2) Bench Pulls
270 X 1 lap
( 315 X 1 lap) X 4

C) Atlas/Stone Pickup
(pure man/testosterone exercise we did for fun haha)
150 X 1
175 X 1
225 X 1
277 missed

Here is our ghetto stone haha

The “stone”

Nice stone you’ve got there haha. And nice pulling!

GVT Day 29
Arms

A1) Decline CGBP
(235 X 3) X 10

A2) Hammer Curls
(60s X 3) X 10

B1) Cable Pushdowns
Stack X 6
Stack +7.5 X 6 PR
Stack +7.5 X 8 PR

B2) Cable Curls (curl up, go down halfway, curl up again, that’s ONE rep)
100 X 8
107.5 X 8
110 X 8

NOTES: I’m not so sure if I want to do GVT for another 30 day cycle. I’m supposed to be deadlift 435 X 3 X 10 on day 57. That’s 92% of my current 1RM for 30 reps! What do you guys think? My guess is that’s a recipe for disaster and burnout.

Thanks, buddy!

Day 57 sounds brutal. I’d play it by ear and see how you’re feeling during the 2nd cycle. Nothing wrong with deloading midway to prevent overtraining. You could also take a week off before starting your 2nd cycle.

Hope this sort of helps you out.

I think I’m just gonna keep going. I’m sure I can finish the program just fine, I’m just being a girl about it lol

Thanks!

No problem. Sweet! I’m looking forward to seeing how the remainder of GVT goes for you. I’m looking forward to giving it a try.

GVT Day 31
Chest/Back

A1) Flat BB
(205 X 5) X 10
Awesome. First set felt like I could have repped out 15

A2) Chins
(BW 25 X 5) X 10

B1) Incline DB
65 X 8
Was planning on working up to 85s-90s but felt horrible

B1) V-Bar Pulldown
165 X 6
felt more like 200

NOTES: Felt like absolute crap today. Sleep has been pretty bad the last few nights, due to finals week at KU. I could have dragged myself through the assistance, but it would have been more harm than good for progress. I’d rather try to eat and rest up so I can squat tomorrow. I was shaking some during the last few sets of 5, and honestly could have fallen asleep on my drive home lol. Oh well. Time to go get a burrito form Chipotle, and take a much needed nap
