Let me say this about the American vs non-American debate:
I used to be an engineer for an automotive supplier just outside of Detroit.
Here are some fact about car companies:
American car companies give no special treatment to American suppliers. American cars are a mix of foreign and domestic parts.
American car companies are building plants in foreign countries and employing foreign workers.
In one instance, an American car company was bailed out of serious financial trouble only to be sold by its directors as a subsidiary to a foreign car company.
Many foreign maufacturers (car companies and suppliers) have set up manufacturing facilities, offices and R&D facilities on American soil and are staffed by 95%-100% American workers.
I am about as Patriotic as they come, however…
If American car companies are not loyal to Americans (workers and suppliers), why should Americans be loyal to them? You want to give them your money so they can go build another plant in Mexico or so they can have more business dealings with foreign suppliers? Or so they can make it more profitable only to sell it to a foreign company?
Further, the Detroit bias against foreign car companies (mostly by Union workers), for the most, no longer exists, since foreign mfgs have set up shop here and hired American workers (they have also become unionized, for the most part…not that is necessarily a good thing, just a fact).
I think the “Buy American” sentiment crumbles in light of how the industry truly is.
Hey Nate, nice response. Here’s one for you too, “Fuck you.”
It wasn’t a personal attack on you. It was a statement of my opinion on the matter. I didn’t bring politics into play on it. You did that. I didn’t call you un-American. You did that. I didn’t imply a thing by that post, but you took it upon yourself to deem it an attack on you.
This isn’t “your thread” so I’ll post whatever I damn well please.
A few of the highlights. I will post these in your car then my car format. 1.6 L—5.3 L, 105 Horsepower—285 Horsepower, Torque-100 lb—325 lbs, 0-60-8.5 seconds—7.7-8.0 seconds.
So not only is my truck much more powerful than your go-kart, but it is faster by between one second and a half-second to 60 mph. Add to that the fact that Car and Driver has rated the Silverado as the number one truck for three straight years (2001,2002, 2003) and you can see that I sacrifice no quality. Finally, I buy American and have the satisfcation of knowing that I support the United States.
I thought it is an appropriate analogy to compare me and you. I am a large bodybuilder at 6 foot 2 inches and 247-250 pounds. You are small. My truck is large and fast. You are slow and weak. Pretty interesting, huh?
ExHITer Scott, the WRX looks awesome! If I could afford it, I would get the wagon. But, instead, I’ll have to settle for my OUtback Sport and pretend it’s a WRX!
I don’t see how anyone can “buy american”. How could you possibly know what is made where?
For instance, the Toyota Camry is 70% made in the US, so I think that would qualify it as an American car, that is a lot of jobs.
But every US car manufacturer buys at least 20-50% of their steel from OUTSIDE the US, even with the tariffs recently imposed. That is because US steel manufacturers make completely different products. So… that is “buying US” but your money is going to other countries.
Motorola, an “American” company, does not have EVEN ONE US manufacturing plant anymore, not even in Peurto Rico! So are Motorola products truly “American” anymore?
I wish American manufacturing were strong enough to compete (certainly there are good products), but the only way to truly do that is probably 1. break the power of Unions, and 2. lower tariffs and taxes so we have true competition with foreign companies. I know foreman that would love that, but no regular workers
I think , buying the best product for the best price is what’s truly American and in the spirit of capitalism and entrepreneurship.
US=Good Guys, you are a complete idiot and a complete disgrace to the USA. By the way, my Tundra beats the shit out ur crappy silverado and its kind of funny b/c if u use an analogy of me and u to our trucks i’m bigger at 6’2" 265 just like my truck is better.
Yeah, US=GG your truck is big. But it’s also a model of engineering inefficency. With a 1.6L engine and 105HP, Nate’s engine is generating about 66hp/L of displacement. Yours on the other hand is only making 54.
But… on the other hand: who the hell cares? With integrated economies and reduced import/export tariff laws, we’re all shopping from each other. That’s the beauty of a global marketplace. If you want to support the United States, great. But if you think you can selectively support the US economy based on your brand name/product choices, that’s ridculous. Honda has car plants in the US, the US has car plants in Mexico, the list goes on and on.
And also… taking my ‘who the hell cares theory’ farther. Nate posted because he’s proud of his new car and he wanted to show people on the forum. I don’t think his choice of automobile warrants any personal attacks. Leave the guy alone.
Nate: nice car, hope it runs well for you, please don’t put on racing stripes, stickers, or a huge muffler.
Nate dogg, nice car an it looks in great shape. I had a civic for years . the best car i’ve ever owned. As for the comments about Honda not being an American car. hahaha that’s rich. Honda, Toyota,an Nissan or the most American made cars on the road. Thats a fact. More American parts more American labor than any “so called” American car. Aaaalot of “American” parts for “American cars” are form Mexico an Canada. With all that said nice car. I’ve got one of the new 4Runners an love it… Hey, had to get a ride to tow the boat. Gotta do it in style with a black one…
Nate, if you’re happy with your new ride, then good for you. It’s always a sweet feeling to be in something new and/or different. Anything to boost the ol’ self esteem is always good. Just keep in mind, a new car will never make your dick bigger, it will still be the same size Nate. I’ve even tried it myself, just doesn’t work. US=GG, did your big Silverado make your dick bigger? Didn’t think so. You two are bickering over cock size and when it all comes down to it, who the hell cares?
My dad, along with his brothers and my Moms’ brothers all pretty much earned their living through a major Detroit based car company. So out of respect, (and a kick ass discount) I will never buy a foreign car, no matter how cool it looks or performs. I remember once telling my Pops how cool the Nissan Exterra looked and he said, “well you’ll never park one in THIS driveway!” End of conversation.
“Keep it off my thread!” What the fuck?
You say you’re an American and here you are trying to gag/censor what gets said on “your” post? Are you sure you’re not Chinese or Cuban? It’s not like anyone is pissing on your lawn dude, damn? just some opinions and some lighthearted ribbing is all I’m seeing?
Ahhh, yes, the Volvo S60T. I do have to agree with that one too. I forget about that. Also, VW has a new AWD car with 230+ hp and it’s NA. Quite impressive.
As for those hijacking the thread, do your trolling somewhere else.
Thanks for the feedback on those that do care, support, and/or like my new ride. All I was doing was sharing my new (used) ride that I am proud of and absolutely love (almost as much as the Type R I owned).
Don’t worry, I’m not looking to turn it into a ricemobile. I’ll keep it looking stock and eventually put in a JDM B16A (160hp). With my little car, that horsepower (plus whatever I do to the engine when I build it up) will kick some serious ass. And I’ll still get good gas mileage (30mpg+) and the reliability of a Honda.
BradTGIF, popasquat,
Hey Brad! You are right, the Silverado did not make my dick bigger. Good call!! I’m having a little fun with nate dogg. This guy brags about his girlfriend, cars, and his “physique”?!? What’s next pics of his shower? Perform a search using his name. I warn you, this guy has NIPPLE RINGS!!! I promise you’ll be rolling your eyes. You may even want to poke a little fun at him yourself.
popasquat,
All right, tough guy. You were kidding about the Tundra? Right? I did a quick car and driver review of your truck. There really is no comparison. As I indicated, the Silverado has been truck of the year for three straight years. Didn’t see any mention of the Tundra. Please tell me which engine you have and we can compare. Either way, the Silverado outperforms it hands down.
Oh, Brad, when I talk engines, my dick actually does get bigger!!! Just kidding with you.
What was that bit about the pot and the kettle? Hey, asshole, you’re bragging about your fucking Silverado. You have no reason to hate on Nate, hypocrite.
I’ve never tried to brag about anything, whether it was my physique, my car or my girlfriend. Get your facts straight US=GG.
CMC, yep, he’s your typical hypocrite. He hijacks threads for fun. I was going to ignore him (as I should have) since it wouldn’t give him any fuel for the fire. Oh well, what can you do?
