My Blood Pressure

So…I really don’t know how accurate those machines are at walmarts and grocery stores. But I checked it three times in a row. Each time it was pretty much around the first result which was 140 over 80. I’m 20 years old…what do you guys think about that?

Go to the doctor and have them check it.

It’s too high to allow it to run like that, especially if you’re only 20. Shit man, as time goes by, and it goes by fast, lol, you will be putting a lot more stress on your heart than you should, if you want a long life.

If it doesn’t check out at the doctors, get on some meds. Does your family have a history with this?

If it comes down to it, I would ask for an ACE inhibitor. It’s the best bp med in my opinion, and I had the same numbers as you, and take the ACE inhib currently. Only requires a low dose, and much safer, healthier for you than diuretics and the other choices out there.

Good luck

Thanks for the input bro…yea my dad has high blood pressure…so did his dad and his mom…

Are you on any PH’s??

You had discussed this a while back. Those are bad for BP.

Also, those public machines read high if you have anything over 15" arms.

I read high ALWAYS at Safeway, or Longs etc and I get 140 over 80…

But at the actual DR, it’s totally normal.

I need to goto the doctors anyway man…I haven’t had a check up in like 2 years.

Facko,

Make sure you are using the proper cuff for your arm size. My doctor’s nurse was using a cuff that wasn’t intended to be used on arms over 15 inches so I was getting extremely high readings. When she used the fat-people cuff I got a normal reading.

The grocery store machines are plainly unreliable.

120/80 is perfect fyi

Those machines can be way off if you are muscular. My bp was dangerous at one of those and fine at the docs. I looked close and it said that measurements wouldn’t be accurate if your arms were over 13.5 inches, hahahaha!

You’re lucky. My BP ranges from 110/90 to 140/100. My diastolic is too high. My doctor says it’s because of perpiheral resistance caused by excessive muscle and water retention.

However, I might try the fat man cuffs. Furthermore, those Walmart BP thingies are usually off.

140/80 isn’t alarmingly high. Your systolic BP fluctuates can lot so Drs usually go by the diastolic before they treat you for hypertension. It takes 140/90 or higher on two separate occasions for hypertension.

And automatic machines aren’t 100% reliable. I’ve seen them WAAAY off many times

Yea…I really should just goto the doctors…I avoid them alot…doctors that is

Wow…I just recently went to the doctors and they told me my blood pressure was just a little higher than normal. My arms are a little over 15 inches too so my measurements were probably a little messed up.

They also fed me about 200 calories worth of bread and cheese while I was in the emergency room for six fuckin hours…shit man these doctors need to start payin more attention to what the more muscular dudes need

My BP is down to 110/80. I think eating oatmeal helped.

Your BP is like your weight, it can fluctuate a lot throughout the day. Only your BP can fluctuate way more. you can be 110/70 in the morning and be 150/90 later on. Things like exercise, excitement, caffeine, certain foods, etc can affect it so don’t get hung up on it unless it’s chronicly high with no explanation.

I have blood pressure testing anxiety disorder. About 4 years ago I went to the doctor for a stomach bug. There isn’t much I dislike more than going to the doctor and being poked and potentially having to deal with needles(I’m afraid of needles. shut up). So needless to say I’m a little freaked when they wrapped the deal around my arm. I scored like 160/100 or something ridiculous like that and they wanted me too watch it after assuring them it was purely psychological. So I got a machine and checked it when I woke up in the morning and before I go to sleep, and usually score about 100/60. So if you are like me, just keep track of it yourself and try not to kill anyone at the doctor’s office.

Heh, I scored 147/76 and I am 20 years old. The nurse said it’s not too bad and I shouldn’t worry about it that much. I also think it’s largely psychological since I always get extremely stressed when the they put the damn thing around my arm. My pulse raises and I start sweating, it’s just that uncomfortable.

How is your weight? A little weight can bring up your B/P
